Since 1930, the seaplane base at Lago di Como has been the place to be for those loving the fly the Larian skies. As the oldest seaplane base and seaplane flight school in the world, rare beauties can be seen, such as this Republic Aviation RC-3 "SeaBee" amphibious sports aircraft.
This 1940s high-wing seaplane offers great views and became popular in countries with long coastlines, islands & lakes with areas of unspoiled wilderness. Registration N87504 is a blue & white beauty with an Airworthiness Date of October 1973. Best way to admire the Lago di Como !

This Sutherland Shire series are photographs taken since moving back here to live (February, 2102) and re-discovering the area... re-visiting the familiar and exploring areas I was not familiar with while growing up here.
This grouping were taken in July 2012 at the beautiful Como Pleasure Grounds (www.sutherlandshire.nsw.gov.au/Recreation/Parks/Como_Plea...), where you can find the Blackfish Cafe & Grill (www.blackfishcafeandgrill.com.au/) and the Como Swimming Complex (www.sutherlandshire.nsw.gov.au/Recreation/Leisure_Centres...). You can also take in a short walk past the historic Como Hotel (www.thecomo.com.au/) :: Scylla Bay Reserve (www.sutherlandshire.nsw.gov.au/Recreation/Sport/Sports_Fi...) :: and the charming Como Marina (www.facebook.com/comomarina).
The Como Pleasure Grounds overlook the Georges River and surrounding bushland and offer a playground, BBQ's and picnic areas as well as a walking track and bike loop. The Grounds are situated next to the Marina where you can hire a boat or eat at the cafe or Thai Rim Nam restaurant. The access point to the Como to Oatley Bridge walk is located here as well. Opposite the Pleasure Grounds is Scylla Bay Reserve, incorporating the Oval which hosts rugby and cricket, there are also tennis courts as well as a boat ramp and wharf close by. The historic Como hotel looks down over Scylla Bay, they have a brasserie and cater to functions in the Scylla Bay Room. The Como Markets are also held close to here, in the grounds of the Como Public School on the 2nd Sunday of each month. There is definitely enough here to make a day of it. There are so many areas of natural beauty in the Shire and lots of great things to do and see which makes it well worth a visit.
The reason they are linked to my pinch river profile is because they will inevitably feed into my work at some stage in some way or another, but for now can just be enjoyed as images of the Shire that captured my attention and inspired my creativity.

"The Como Cemetery was established by the Town of Como in 1887, when a previous burial ground was closed due to its location just above a spring that provided water for some residents, leading to fears it was a possible source of water contamination. The Town Board enacted an ordinance requiring all burials in the old cemetery be removed to the new one. Como Cemetery provided funerary services for residents of Como, surrounding small settlements, and the broader rural ranching and mining area. It served as the site for the mass funeral and burial of seventeen victims of the January 1893 industrial accident at the King Coal Mine southeast of Como that claimed the lives of twenty-five mostly Italian miners. The burial ground includes a noteworthy collection of markers, monuments, and grave enclosures that reflect common artistic values of the late-nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries"—Description from the History Colorado website.
Como Cathedral (Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta; Duomo di Como) is the Roman Catholic cathedral of the city of Como. It is dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The cathedral, located near Lake Como, is one of the most important buildings in the region. It is commonly described as the last Gothic cathedral built in Italy.
