The phrase, "high and dry," has always been an allusion to someone abandoned or left to fend for themselves. I have had the opportunity to speak with my older rl sibling frequently in the past month as he recovers from the ravages of covid.
My brother had been in a medically induced coma for 3 weeks, and we both have agreed to spend more time communicating with one another for the rest of our lives. It's sad that we have to come so close to being left high and dry before we realize just how precious our loved ones truly are to us.
Just do it. Renew that distant relationship. Reach out to that person you've been meaning to, but keep forgetting. Don't miss this chance to live your life to the fullest and enhance a love that could be enriched. Blessings to you, my dear Flickr friends.
With over 170 odorant receptors, Honey Bees (Apis mellifera) are wildly skilled creatures. In contrast, mosquitoes only havw about 80 such receptors. Houseflies...60. What do they do with this super sniffing power? Why, find flowers, of course. And with their keen flower sniffing power, they can tell the difference between hundreds of flower varieties from yards away, and even identify whether or not there is pollen or nectar within. Beyond its flowering ferreting use, their sense of smell also helps bees communicate with one another!
Most of the dogs we saw in Cuba appeared not to be pets. This cute little fella sitting under the butcher's counter communicated such a feeling of pathos. If I could have brought him home, I would have.
Bugs sitting on the camera bag that he has taken a liking to and gazing up at me willing me to understand what he is trying to communicate to me. He is so cute when he does this.

Important to know: Iguanas are capable of severely injuring people, other animals and themselves when their body language signals are not recognized. Most iguanas clearly sign that trouble is ahead. They nod their head and wave their dewlap side to side. The dewlap is a fold of loose skin hanging from the neck or throat of an animal, such as a cow.
Iguanas use their dewlap to communicate. First, an extended dewlap can simply be a greeting, away to say hello to another creature during mating but most generally as a territorial sign. Second, it can be a form of protection. A threatened iguana may extend its dewlap to intimidate a predator into thinking it is much larger than it is. Third, an extended dewlap may be a sign the iguana is trying to adjust its temperature. An extended dewlap on an iguana basking in the sun is quite normal. It may be catching more sun to warm up or a breeze to cool off. So it's important to see "the big picture" when reading Iguana body language.

I think the dry heat of the desert makes the wires do strange things LOL. I made this in the in DDG-text-2-Dream. This came out of my imagination.
Sat on the clifftop at Bass Point on the Lizard peninsula, England’s most southerly point, is Lloyd’s Signal Station. The art deco former signal house was built in 1872 by Fox and Company shipping agents as a communication hub for passing trading vessels, with a team of signallers using flag signalling to direct passing ships while communicating with London via telegraph. Within five years the station was being used by more than 1,000 ships a month, and in 1883 Lloyd’s of London took over operation of it.
Outward- and homeward-bound ships reported their name and other information. The particulars would be passed to the telegraph room below to be sent to the ships’ owners and the daily papers, removing the necessity for ships to call at Falmouth as they could receive orders directly from the Lizard. The ground floor had rooms occupied by the Direct Spanish Telegraph Company and the Lizard Signal Company, while the first floor contained a flag storage room and the telegraph office. The top floor was where the signalmen worked.

A male Lazuli Bunting with its definitive light blue plumage flutters above what I believe is a breeding adult female [see www.flickr.com/photos/luminouscompositions/55063479854/in... ]. It appears the lower bird is vocalizing, possibly begging or communicating a pair bond. The setting for this interaction was along Wolf Creek Road north of the small community of Wasa in the southeastern part of the Canadian province of British Columbia.
