Today, we marked the International Day of the Girl Child by inviting Sabrina Ali Mohammed, a young Somali and aspiring journalist, to shadow our senior communications official, Valerie Msoka.

Sabrina had a chance to learn about the United Nations' communications work in Somalia and more.

She met with various colleagues and teams who work on different aspects of the UN’s support for peace and development in Somalia, such as the Chief of Staff’s office and the human rights team.

She also had the opportunity to interact with some of the UN’s top officials in the country, including Deputy Special Representative Anita Kiki Gbeho, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of UNSOS Aisa Kirabo Kacyira, and Deputy Special Representative and Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator George Conway, who shared their insights and experiences with her.

Sabrina ended her day with a one-on-one training session with our communicators on crafting powerful stories that inspire change and action. She said she was inspired by the people she met and the UN’s work for Somalia, especially for women and girls.
