The Commom Pondhawk dragonfly lives up to its name as it is caught feasting on another dragonfly.
Common Murre

I was lucky enough to see this murre just before I was ready to give up looking for the day. It's rare that this species comes inland, and this one has been giving lots of good looks. Too bad the light was so poor at this point but it was a thrill to see it.
While walking at White Rock beach today, it struck me just how uncommon this white "nuisance" bird might really be: Sibley refers to an entirely white bird (Rock Dove/Common Pigeon) as "scarce" ... I wouldn't have given it a second thought ... until I did!

Male Common Flameback @ Japanese Garden
The Common Flameback Woodpecker (Dinopium Javanese) is a common bird in Singapore. It is a strikingly colorful bird and has a crest of either red or black, depending on the sex. The female has a black crest, and the male has a red crest.
It is found in open coastal woodlands, mangroves and mature gardens. Its shrill calls and rapid tappings on tree-trunks are indicative of its presence.
Woodpeckers are primarily insectivorous, feeding mainly on insects and their larvae, as well as other arthropods. Many have also been observed to feed on plant products including tree sap.

Marmosets love to play and in many of these shots you will see them foraging for food amongst the leaves or eating corn which the zoo keepers have given them.These common marmosets are very inquisitive and in some of the shots they are looking all around their enclosure for different sounds which they hear, also looking for predators in the sky.They also enjoying looking at the visitors who are looking at them. I just love these little guys and even though I take many photos of them, I also spend time just studying them.
The above shot show little Avi who I think is about 15 months old now.

There were a few straggling wildebeest not in the main herd, but still in the Seronera region. They were easier to isolate for a photo than the big herd.

Page Springs, AZ - I was happy to find the Common Black-Hawks again this year, this time with youngsters staring down from the nest which was directly over a path along the creek. One of the parents was keeping watch nearby.

The family Tettigoniidae, known in American English as katydids and in British English as bush-crickets, contains more than 6,400 species. It is part of the suborder Ensifera and the only family in the superfamily Tettigonoidea. They are also known as long-horned grasshoppers, although they are more closely related to crickets than to grasshoppers.
