Well named - as the slimy-sticky, olive-green spore mass smells unpleasantly of carrion - which attracts swarms of flies that feed on the slime and carry away the spores which they later excrete elsewhere. Within a few hours, all the slime is consumed, leaving a white cap with a honey-comb surface
In the past this weird toadstool was used as an ingredient in love potions and aphrodisiacs and apparently even today in some parts of the world, they are fed to cattle to try and improve their fertility!

Garter snakes are mildly venomous.
Garter snakes are nevertheless harmless to humans due to the very low amounts of venom they produce, which is comparatively mild, and the fact that they lack an effective means of delivering it.
