Well named - as the slimy-sticky, olive-green spore mass smells unpleasantly of carrion - which attracts swarms of flies that feed on the slime and carry away the spores which they later excrete elsewhere. Within a few hours, all the slime is consumed, leaving a white cap with a honey-comb surface

In the past this weird toadstool was used as an ingredient in love potions and aphrodisiacs and apparently even today in some parts of the world, they are fed to cattle to try and improve their fertility!

This Common Darter was resting still on the top of a weed just a couple of metres from me so that I could take some shots of it. Without any expectation to see a dragonfly when I was chasing the butterflies in a field far away from water yesterday.
