Fingal Bay is the eastern-most suburb of the Port Stephens local government area in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, Australia.[5] The only population centre is the township of the same name, which itself is named after the adjacent, small, semi-circular bay.[10] At the 2011 census, the population of the town was 1,503.[1]
Except for the township, most of Fingal Bay is included in the Tomaree National Park, which includes forested areas, coastal scrubland, beaches and most of the Fingal headland. The suburb does not include the bay itself.[2]
Fingal Bay is about 1.75 km (1.1 mi) across at its widest point and 1.3 km (0.8 mi) from the mouth to the beach.[4] The northeastern head of the bay is the Fingal headland, which is connected to the mainland via Fingal Spit, a sand spit about 900 m (2,953 ft) long.[4] Waters to the northeast of the spit are known as "Fly Roads".[11] Crossing between the mainland and the headland along the spit is considered dangerous.[12] According to a sign on the beach, people have died crossing the spit, which can be covered by breaking waves at times. The south-western head of the bay is Fingal Head, which is located southeast of the town. Between the two heads, the mouth is over 1 km (0.6 mi) wide.[4] The bay includes a sandy beach about 1.9 km (1.2 mi) long.[4]

KABUL, 15 May 2018 - Adopting a new anti-corruption strategy and implementing several initiatives in a broad anti-corruption agenda demonstrate Afghanistan’s commitment to countering corruption, finds a new United Nations report released today.
“The United Nations stands firmly in supporting Afghanistan’s reinvigorated efforts to fight corruption,” said Tadamichi Yamamoto, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan. “The United Nations is especially encouraged by the new reforms brought about in a short time by the Civil Service Commission as well as by the increased activity of the Anti-Corruption Justice Centre in prosecuting and adjudicating complex corruption cases.”
UNAMA’s second anti-corruption report, titled ‘Afghanistan’s Fight against Corruption: From Strategies to Implementation,’ analyses the contributions made by civil society and independent institutions, along with all three branches of government – the executive, the legislative and the judiciary.
The report identifies the need to accelerate justice reforms in the interest of improving the lives of all Afghan people. It describes Afghanistan’s new anti-corruption strategy as a strong tool, but notes that a short-term strategy will have limited impact.
“It has become clear that all Afghan institutions, along with all segments of society, must now engage in fighting corruption to rebuild integrity, accountability and transparency in the country, with a long-term agenda,” said Yamamoto, who is also head of UNAMA.
The report, which Afghan authorities were actively engaged in helping to produce with data and feedback, details how the country has now met requirements of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption regarding criminalization of corruption offences.
The report makes several recommendations, recognizing that the government’s ongoing anti-corruption efforts have yet to impact the lives of most Afghans, and concludes that, notwithstanding the many legal and policy reforms that have been undertaken, corruption continues to be a substantial obstacle to Afghanistan’s long-term peace and prosperity.
“While Afghanistan has made significant and notable progress in fighting corruption, new reform strategies and laws have yet to be fully applied to bring tangible benefits to Afghans suffering from the impact of corruption,” said the UN envoy. “We are confident our recommendations will be well received and will help Afghanistan in advancing its anti-corruption reform agenda.”

Yesterday at Blogher '10 I had the pleasure of meeting one of my favorite photographers, Stephanie Roberts. She asked me what I liked to shoot and I told her I'd been having trouble focusing. She suggested I start a 365. When she did hers, she was able to look back and see how much she loved documentary photography.
If you've been following me over the years, you know this is something I'm afraid of due to my ability to start projects and never finish them. It occured to me while we were talking that if I ever plan to really take this seriously, I have to learn to commit. Force myself to.

I've always hesitated to get a tattoo for fear I wouldn't wind up liking it. The solution: A temporary painted rose. I was at an art tour my wife was participating in. There was a young woman doing face painting on children. She was idle (no kids around just then) so I stepped up. Hey, I'm young at heart. She targeted my arm (less whiskers than my face). She asked what I wanted and I said "You can choose." She picked a rose because she hadn't done one for a while. Now I don't want to shower it off.
The Final Day of Racing At Brands Hatch for The Superprix Weekend and After a Really Busy and Scattered Set Of Races The Previous day it was time to see which of the Drivers could Brave the Circuit One Last Time and Take Home Either a Championship Win or a Victory in their Specific Race.

Classic Formula Ford and Historic Formula 3 Were up First and it was Time to see who could be The one to take the Checkered Flag First when they crossed the Line.
In First Place was (Cameron Jackson) in his Winkelmann WDF2 with a Lap Time of 1:39.257 and a Top Speed of 86.59mph. A Fantastic Victory Cameron Showing Incredible Car Control and Commitment to Win the Race.
In Second Place was (Ben Tinkler) in his Van Diemen RF80 with a Lap Time of 1:39.986 and a Top Speed of 85.77mph. A Really Great Drive from Ben to stay so close to Cameron and Keep Him on his toes the entire Time while Fighting for the Lead of the Race.
In Third Place was (Jordan Harrison) in his Lola T540E with a Lap Time of 1:39.994 and a Top Speed of 85.54mph. A Really Wonderfully Deserved Third Place for Jordan Pushing that Lola for everything it Has got to gain Third Place. Well Done.

HGPCA Pre 66 Grand Prix Cars (Race 20)
Next It was The Historic Grand Prix Cars and with a Massive Turn out for them it looks like Another Cracking Race to see from Start till Finish. Lets see who came out on Top.
In First Place was (Sam Wilson) in his Lotus 18 with a Lap Time of 1:39.384 and a Top Speed of 86.55mph. Amazing Work Sam Showing Colin Chapman How it Should be Done. He would have been Proud to Witness that Victory.
In Second Place was (Peter Horsman) in his Lotus 18/21 with a Lap Time of 1:41.296 and A Top Speed of 84.90mph. A Fantastic Drive by Peter to take Second Place in the Race.
In Third Place was (Miles Griffiths) in his Scarab Offenhauser with A Lap Time of 1:41.501 and A Top Speed of 84.38mph A Really Good Job there Miles Almost Matching Lap Times with Peter and Showing Some Incredible Car Control during The Race.
Another Fantastic Race for The Historic Grand Prix Cars and a Huge Congratulations to Sam for Taking Victory in the Last Race. Avery Well Done to Both Peter and Miles as well.
HSCC 70's Road Sports (Race 19)
Historic Road Sports took to the Track next and with some Legendary Cars from the Likes of Lotus Morgan and TVR it was Time to see who Had Stormed to Victory in the Last Race and Taken the Victory.
In First Place was (William Plant) in his Morgan Plus 8 with A Lap Time of 1:45.768 and A Top Speed of 70.67mph. Congratulations William on the Victory it was so Good to See a Morgan Take First Place while Watching this Exciting Race. An Amazing Drive.
In Second Place was (Jim Dean) in his Lotus Europa with A Lap Time of 1:46.411 and A Top Speed of 70.66mph. Another Incredible Drive from Jim to Take Second Place. Well Done
In Third Place was (Richard Plant) in his Morgan Plus 8 with A Lap Time of 1:47.697 and a Top Speed of 70.31mph. A Very Committed Drive from Richard and a Fantastic Third Place Finish that I'm sure the Whole Family will be Proud of.

The Arora Trophy Roared onto the Grand Prix Circuit Next with Powerful V8 Engines thease Racing Cars could make the Ground Shake as they Thunder their way around the Race Track. Lets see who Managed to take that All Important Victory for their Final Race.
In First Place was (Martin Stretton) in his March 712 with a Lap Time of 1:25.976 and A Top Speed of 101mph. A Very Brave and Committed drive from Martin to Take Victory, Really Pushing the March to its Limits and hanging onto the Lead thought the Race.
In Second Place was (Mathew Wrigley) in his March 782 with a Lap Time of 1:25.127 and A Top Speed of 100.96mph. Another Incredible Driver Taking his Machinery to New heights and Keeping the March Name Alive in Historic Racing. Amazing Work Mathew.
In Third Place was (Samuel Harrison) in his Dallara 389 with A Lap Time of 1:29.552 and A Top Speed of 95.04mph. Amazing work Sam showing Insane Car Control even when Racing so Fast and for such A Long Time. Congratulations.
Another Amazing Race to Keep the Day going and showing the Amazing work that Each Team Does to ensure that their Driver and His Car are Ready to go. Next Up Guards Trophy with Another Range of Racing Machines from the Likes of Brabham Chevron and Lotus Lets see what will Happen and Who will be able to Drive their way to Victory in This Race.
In First Place was (Andy Newall) in his Chevron B6 with A Lap Time of 1:38.258 and A Top Speed of 83.84mph. Very Well Driven and Raced by Andy Showcasing the Power of the Chevron and taking it too its Limits in terms of Raw Speed and Performance.
In Second Place was the Duo of (Jackson S and Jackson C) in their Lenham P70 with A Lap Time of 1:38.008 and A Top Speed of 83.45mph. Fantastic Work to The Two Jacks who Really showed what Working Together Can Achieve during A Race. Well Done

In First Place was (Cameron Jackson) in his Winkelmann WDF2 with A Lap Time of 1:38.596 and A Top Speed of 87.95mph. Another Incredible Drive From Cameron to Take Victory and show what A Truly Committed and Self Determined Driver is. He is an Inspiration to All Up Coming Formula Ford Racers.
In Second Place was (Tom Macarthur) in his Titan MK3 with A Lap Time of 1:38.484 and A Top Speed of 87.94mph. Another Really Brave and Heroic Driver Pushing His Formula Ford to its Limits and Keeping his Eye's on the Race Track. Amazing Work Tom.

In First Place was (Kevin Kivlochan) in his AC Cobra with a Lap Time of 1:46.891 and A Top Speed of 72.19mph. What A Drive From Kevin to Take Victory Keeping that Cobra Far Ahead of the Rest of the Pack and Taking A Dominant Victory. Carol Shelby would have Loved to See That.
In Second Place was (John Davidson) in his Lotus Elan S1 with A Lap Time of 1:46.052 And A Top Speed of 72.16mph. Amazing Work John Keeping that Lotus on the Tarmac and Putting on One Hell of a Race for Everyone. Amazing Job.
In Third Place was (Rupert Ashdown) in his Lotus Elan S1 with A Lap Time of 1:47.481and A Top Speed of 71.61mph. Another Incredible Drive by Rupert Taking Third Place Very Well Deserved.

The Final Race of The Day was Here and The Historic Touring Car Club did not Disappoint with Lotus Cortina's Mini Cooper S's and Ford Mustangs This was going to be a Final Battle of Titans. Lets See Who Managed to Take that Last Checkered Flag of the Day.
In First Place was (Steve Soper) in his Ford Mustang with A Lap Time of 1.47.084 and A Top Speed of 71.51mph. Awesome Drive Steve Fantastic to see that He Still has it in him After all The Years of Racing.
In Second Place was (Rob Fen) in his Ford Mustang with A Lap Time of 1:49.031 and A Top Speed of 70.93mph. Amazing Work Rob Pushing that Mustang Far and Wide to Hang onto that Second Place. Excellent Drive.
In Third Place was (Mark Martin in his Ford Lotus Cortina with A Lap Time of 1:49.905 and A Top Speed of 70.70mph. Very Well Done Mark Great Driving and Even a Wheel in the Air on Some Occasions Heading onto the Grand Prix Loop. What A Sight that Was to See.
And With that The Days Events came to an End for another year of Superprix Racing at Brands Hatch Amazing work to all of the Organisers and Race Drivers who took Part and Congratulations once again to all of the Race Winners. Keep Fighting Keep Wining and I'm Sure we will do it All Again Next Year.

Historic Formula 3 was about to Take on the Might of The Brands Hatch GP Loop Featuring Cars from the Classic Formula 3 Era Such as The March 783 The Chevron B43 and The Royal RP27.
Thease Machines May Look Docile but When Racing they put on a Huge Display of Both Power and Speed to Rival even that of their Formula 1 Counterparts of the Era.

Its Time for Historic Formula Ford 2000 and To see who Can Take The Victory in This Race. With Cars that Are capable of Nearly 100mph Around The Grand Prix Circuit it will be Interesting to see who is Brave Enough to Push Their Ford to its Limits.

On Wednesday, January 23rd, Lt. Governor Matt Denn joined volunteers at a “Reception for Giving” to highlight the first statewide Sleeping Bag Drive launched earlier this month. The reception and press conference highlighted the Sleeping Bag Drive’s first distribution and a broad commitment to aiding homeless children throughout Delaware. The groups are working in conjunction with the Delaware Office of Volunteerism to support the Governor’s Week of Service.
Newark High School’s Jefferson Awards’ Students in Action team, partnering with the Governor’s Advisory Council for Exceptional Citizens (GACEC) have led the Sleeping Bag Drive, teaming with a wide array of partners representing state agencies, schools, businesses and individuals – all of whom are donating funds or sleeping bags, hosting drop-off sites or aiding with collection. The Sleeping Bag Drive continues through February 28th.
All U.S. Marines are gung-ho. But, few can match the vision and total commitment of the famous 13th Commandant, Gen. John A. Lejeune. In 1921 he issued Marine Corps Order No. 47, Series 1921.
Gen. Lejeune's order summarized the history, mission, and tradition of the Corps. It further directed that the order be read to all Marines on 10 November of each year to honor the founding of the Marine Corps. Thereafter, 10 November became a unique day for U.S. Marines throughout the world.
Soon, some Marine commands began to not only honor the birthday, but celebrate it. In 1923 the Marine Barracks at Ft. Mifflin, Pennsylvania, staged a formal dance. The Marines at the Washington Navy Yard arranged a mock battle on the parade ground. At Quantanamo Bay, Cuba, the Marine baseball team played a Cuban team and won, 9 to 8.
The first "formal" Birthday Ball took place on Philadelphia in 1925. First class Marine Corps style, all the way! Guests included the Commandant, the Secretary of War (in 1925 the term "politically correct" didn't exist; it was Secretary of War, not Secretary of Defense), and a host of statesmen and elected officials. Prior to the Ball, Gen. Lejeune unveiled a memorial plaque at Tun Tavern. Then the entourage headed for the Benjamin Franklin Hotel and an evening of festivities and frolicking.
Over the years the annual Birthday Ball grew and grew, taking on a life of its own. In 1952 the Commandant, Gen. Lemuel C. Shepherd Jr., formalized the cake-cutting ceremony and other traditional observances. For example, Marine Corps policy now mandates that the first piece of cake must be presented to the oldest U.S. Marine present. The second piece goes to the youngest Marine. Among the many such mandates is a solemn reading of the Commandant's birthday message to the Corps.
Like the U.S. Marine Corps itself, the annual Birthday Ball has evolved from simple origins to the polished and professional functions of today. Nonetheless, one thing remains constant, the tenth day of November! This unique holiday for warriors is a day of camaraderie, a day to honor Corps and Country. Throughout the world on 10 November, U.S. Marines celebrate the birth of their Corps -- the most loyal, most feared, most revered, and most professional fighting force the world has ever known.

Wild Wildlife – Bald Eagles
This photo essay is the result of what ended up being a five-day time commitment, a stakeout of sort, dedicated to capturing a wild bald eagle preying on other birds, snatching a mallard duck out of Lake Ontario at Kingston and struggling to keep its catch from its own kind.
Here, I will not dwell on the details of the several misses in attention span on my part, camera misfires and related frustrations thereof, but rather go to detailing the wild action I witnessed and successfully photographed. All I will say is one should not let self be distracted by own cell phone while awaiting wildlife action to materialize.
Before going any further, I would like to point out that I take no joy in seeing the killing of any member of wildlife even when carried out by the forces of nature. Here, a wild bird was unceremoniously killed and consumed by another bird higher up in the food chain. This may be troubling to some. However, let’s not forget that most humans do the same to birds that were kept in confined spaces until they are slaughtered, cooked and placed on dining plates. At least the prey shown in this photo album lived a free life until it met with its destiny.
This particular story began with the arrival of two mature bald eagles who perched high in a distant tree with their sights set on a flock of mallard ducks gathered in sparsely open water near my location. The distance separating the ducks from the raptors was great enough to not cause concern to the waterfowls. After more than 30 min, one of the bald eagles took to flight but to my disappointment flew away from my position and that of the mallards.
Several minutes later, a chaotic and noisy flock of mallard ducks rose from the water surface and hurriedly dispersed. Most ducks were alerted to the stealthy return of the bald eagle. I, on the other hand, was caught by surprise and had little time to set up to capture what was to follow.
In spite of the mayhem, the raptor already had its sight on one of the remaining and somewhat unsuspecting mallards still in the water. The eagle made a swift banked turn and quickly descended towards its now chosen prey.
The somewhat oblivious "sitting duck", first experienced the tight and possibly debilitating grip of the eagle’s powerful talons as it was plucked out of the water (not shown) but upon struggling enough was almost immediately dropped into the frigid lake waters by its captor. In a futile move, the duck submerged itself while the eagle landed on adjacent ice pack. After a short while, the certainly bruised duck inevitably emerged under the watchful eyes of its predator.
The duck managed to take to flight with the eagle immediately taking it in pursuit. Ensuing was a race for survival, at times looking somewhat promising for the duck, though its fate had already been sealed. After a relatively short chase which must have felt like an eternity to the duck, the eagle snatched the duck in mid-air and landed on rugged ice pack. The whole scene lasted about one minute.
The raptor immediately began to pluck feathers off the duck. Just as quickly and seemingly out of nowhere arrived several other predatory eagles, amongst them a beautiful specimen of juvenile bald eagle which intended to make the kill a disputed food source. Note that bald eagles develop their full white heads and tails only after 4 years.
In a preemptive move, the mature eagle picked up its well-earned kill one more time but dropped the now limb bird as a result of the juvenile’s harassment. Both juvenile and mature eagle landed side-by-side on the ice facing away from each other perhaps with the mature bird with its bill still dripping with blood showing discontent with the juvenile’s behavior.
Interestingly, there was no run on the mallard carcass from the several bald eagles sparsely gathered in the area. It was “kept on ice” until its rightful owner returned. Another mature eagle looked on and eventually flew in to an invitation that was never granted.
As if the scene was not surreal enough, many of the mallards had by now returned to their initial location seemingly oblivious to the fate of one of their own and the drama unfolding on the ice a short distance away.
BC has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing reconciliation with First Nations through a proposed joint work plan with the First Nations Leadership Council.
The Final Day of Racing At Brands Hatch for The Superprix Weekend and After a Really Busy and Scattered Set Of Races The Previous day it was time to see which of the Drivers could Brave the Circuit One Last Time and Take Home Either a Championship Win or a Victory in their Specific Race.

In First Place was (Cameron Jackson) in his Winkelmann WDF2 with a Lap Time of 1:39.257 and a Top Speed of 86.59mph. A Fantastic Victory Cameron Showing Incredible Car Control and Commitment to Win the Race.
In Second Place was (Ben Tinkler) in his Van Diemen RF80 with a Lap Time of 1:39.986 and a Top Speed of 85.77mph. A Really Great Drive from Ben to stay so close to Cameron and Keep Him on his toes the entire Time while Fighting for the Lead of the Race.
In Third Place was (Jordan Harrison) in his Lola T540E with a Lap Time of 1:39.994 and a Top Speed of 85.54mph. A Really Wonderfully Deserved Third Place for Jordan Pushing that Lola for everything it Has got to gain Third Place. Well Done.

HGPCA Pre 66 Grand Prix Cars (Race 20)
Next It was The Historic Grand Prix Cars and with a Massive Turn out for them it looks like Another Cracking Race to see from Start till Finish. Lets see who came out on Top.
In First Place was (Sam Wilson) in his Lotus 18 with a Lap Time of 1:39.384 and a Top Speed of 86.55mph. Amazing Work Sam Showing Colin Chapman How it Should be Done. He would have been Proud to Witness that Victory.
In Second Place was (Peter Horsman) in his Lotus 18/21 with a Lap Time of 1:41.296 and A Top Speed of 84.90mph. A Fantastic Drive by Peter to take Second Place in the Race.
In Third Place was (Miles Griffiths) in his Scarab Offenhauser with A Lap Time of 1:41.501 and A Top Speed of 84.38mph A Really Good Job there Miles Almost Matching Lap Times with Peter and Showing Some Incredible Car Control during The Race.

Historic Road Sports took to the Track next and with some Legendary Cars from the Likes of Lotus Morgan and TVR it was Time to see who Had Stormed to Victory in the Last Race and Taken the Victory.
In First Place was (William Plant) in his Morgan Plus 8 with A Lap Time of 1:45.768 and A Top Speed of 70.67mph. Congratulations William on the Victory it was so Good to See a Morgan Take First Place while Watching this Exciting Race. An Amazing Drive.
In Second Place was (Jim Dean) in his Lotus Europa with A Lap Time of 1:46.411 and A Top Speed of 70.66mph. Another Incredible Drive from Jim to Take Second Place. Well Done

In First Place was (Martin Stretton) in his March 712 with a Lap Time of 1:25.976 and A Top Speed of 101mph. A Very Brave and Committed drive from Martin to Take Victory, Really Pushing the March to its Limits and hanging onto the Lead thought the Race.
In Second Place was (Mathew Wrigley) in his March 782 with a Lap Time of 1:25.127 and A Top Speed of 100.96mph. Another Incredible Driver Taking his Machinery to New heights and Keeping the March Name Alive in Historic Racing. Amazing Work Mathew.
In Third Place was (Samuel Harrison) in his Dallara 389 with A Lap Time of 1:29.552 and A Top Speed of 95.04mph. Amazing work Sam showing Insane Car Control even when Racing so Fast and for such A Long Time. Congratulations.

In Second Place was the Duo of (Jackson S and Jackson C) in their Lenham P70 with A Lap Time of 1:38.008 and A Top Speed of 83.45mph. Fantastic Work to The Two Jacks who Really showed what Working Together Can Achieve during A Race. Well Done

Next Up was Historic Formula Ford and some very Twitchy and Tricky Cars to be Driven Round the Circuit at Hight Speed. With Light Weight Chassis and Small Cockpits this was going to be a Very Exciting Race to Watch. Lets see who Came out Best of the Rest.
In First Place was (Cameron Jackson) in his Winkelmann WDF2 with A Lap Time of 1:38.596 and A Top Speed of 87.95mph. Another Incredible Drive From Cameron to Take Victory and show what A Truly Committed and Self Determined Driver is. He is an Inspiration to All Up Coming Formula Ford Racers.

Historic Road Sports Next and it was Time to see what Each Driver could do in their Respective Race Car. Lets see how things Stacked up and who Came out on Top in the Race.
In First Place was (Kevin Kivlochan) in his AC Cobra with a Lap Time of 1:46.891 and A Top Speed of 72.19mph. What A Drive From Kevin to Take Victory Keeping that Cobra Far Ahead of the Rest of the Pack and Taking A Dominant Victory. Carol Shelby would have Loved to See That.
In Second Place was (John Davidson) in his Lotus Elan S1 with A Lap Time of 1:46.052 And A Top Speed of 72.16mph. Amazing Work John Keeping that Lotus on the Tarmac and Putting on One Hell of a Race for Everyone. Amazing Job.
In Third Place was (Rupert Ashdown) in his Lotus Elan S1 with A Lap Time of 1:47.481and A Top Speed of 71.61mph. Another Incredible Drive by Rupert Taking Third Place Very Well Deserved.

The Final Race of The Day was Here and The Historic Touring Car Club did not Disappoint with Lotus Cortina's Mini Cooper S's and Ford Mustangs This was going to be a Final Battle of Titans. Lets See Who Managed to Take that Last Checkered Flag of the Day.
In First Place was (Steve Soper) in his Ford Mustang with A Lap Time of 1.47.084 and A Top Speed of 71.51mph. Awesome Drive Steve Fantastic to see that He Still has it in him After all The Years of Racing.
In Second Place was (Rob Fen) in his Ford Mustang with A Lap Time of 1:49.031 and A Top Speed of 70.93mph. Amazing Work Rob Pushing that Mustang Far and Wide to Hang onto that Second Place. Excellent Drive.
In Third Place was (Mark Martin in his Ford Lotus Cortina with A Lap Time of 1:49.905 and A Top Speed of 70.70mph. Very Well Done Mark Great Driving and Even a Wheel in the Air on Some Occasions Heading onto the Grand Prix Loop. What A Sight that Was to See.
And With that The Days Events came to an End for another year of Superprix Racing at Brands Hatch Amazing work to all of the Organisers and Race Drivers who took Part and Congratulations once again to all of the Race Winners. Keep Fighting Keep Wining and I'm Sure we will do it All Again Next Year.
Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman recognized the 2020 winners of the Mayor’s Urban Design Awards at the Wednesday, Feb. 19, City Council meeting.
These awards honor projects that foster the city’s commitment to sustainability and livability. The awards recognize projects that cultivate walkways and streets that are shared public spaces, promote safety, conserve resources, preserve historic buildings and places, seamlessly link to their surroundings and are pedestrian-friendly.
The categories include Building and Environment, Historic Preservation and Adaptive Reuse, Public Art, and Public Places.
Ward 2 Councilwoman Victoria Seaman recognized the work of Las Vegan Deanna Thompson, who helped to track down a convicted animal abuser and murderer. This harrowing story was shown in the Netflix documentary “Don’t F**k With Cats.” The series drew a large following of viewers around the world over the last several weeks.
Additionally, Ward 5 Councilman Cedric Crear celebrated Black History Month with a dance performed by the West Las Vegas Arts Center students and by recognizing the 2020 winners of the CJ Watson Essay Contest. Watson, an NBA basketball star from Las Vegas, uses the program to help advance youth in the community.
Councilman Stavros S. Anthony, of Ward 4, recognized the achievements of the local winners of the 2019 USA Track & Field National Junior Olympic Cross County Championships.
Mayor Pro Tem Michele Fiore recognized the dT-alley project that will create a new space downtown. Located between Fremont Street and Carson Avenue, and Las Vegas Boulevard and Sixth Street, dT-alley creates new experiences incorporating art and interactivity through the use of murals and landscaping. The project will be an added attraction in downtown Las Vegas.
The City Council also recognized a team of city employees who have lived the city’s values of being kind, committed and smart.
Finally, the February Employee of the Month was also recognized.
