So as this year draws to a close and my project is completed for this year, I feel nostalgic for when I first started photography but I also love how much I've improved. I hope you've also enjoyed my journey through photography, seeing my failures, and my successes. My 52 week project folder for 2014 is now filled with 52 photos that best capture this year and I couldn't be more proud.
Thank you for sticking with me through this project and more importantly this year. I will be starting my 2015 52 week project so don't fret!
commitments are keeping me away from the forest during the day, and shorter daylight hours rob me of that precious dawn and dusk oppotunity, missing these guys
Hello, dear Flickr friends . . just a quick note to say I hope you're all enjoying your summer!
I'm feeling very remiss about my inability to keep up with my correspondence, commenting on friends' pix, and general activity here on Flickr. Part of it is the usual - work and family commitments - and part of it is an admitted sense of lethargy, to the point where I've questioned my aims, purpose and ability to both contribute to and absorb Flickr's offerings. I've considered opening a Tumblr blog, and I've considered just going cold turkey altogether. But what keeps me here are the connections and friendships I've formed - albeit often and largely from afar - and those are priceless.
Thanks to all of you for your love and support over the years! It's especially meaningful at a time when I'm about to inhabit an empty nest . . funny how when kids leave home it redefines our vision, expectations and inspirations for the future. On the one hand, it hits home that we're not getting any younger, but on the other hand it creates a new perspective on how we can move forward in acceptance and celebration of our unique duality.

Hello my Friends todays painting is called (Involuntary Commitment) A Involuntary commitment is the practice of using legal means or forms as part of a mental health law to commit a person to a mental hospital, insane asylum or psychiatric ward against their will and/or over their protests, Involuntary Commitment takes place when a person is ordered to be admitted to a hospital or treatment facility in order to prevent harm to that individual or others. The purpose of involuntary commitment is to help a person receive necessary and appropriate mental health and/or substance abuse treatment. In order to be hospitalized against an individual's wishes, the person must be mentally ill or under the influence of drugs or alcohol and dangerous to self or others. A person may act very strangely. displaying abnormal behavior but not be committable. An individual is considered dangerous to self if the person exhibits the following behaviors:
is unable to exercise self-control. judgment and discretion in conducting responsibilities of daily life without care/supervision. or
is unable to satisfy need for nourishment. personal care, medical care. shelter. protection and safety and there is a "reasonable probability" of serious physical debilitation unless adequate treatment is given, or
has attempted or threatened suicide and there is "reasonable probability" of suicide unless treatment is given. or
has mutilated or attempted to mutilate self and there is "reasonable probability" that the person will seriously mutilate self again unless treatment is given,steve
BASICS: Nevada Youth Training Center, Elko, NV. Rated at 110 beds. At time of visit there were 91 kids there, all male. NYTC is a rural facility, with 30-25 acres next to the highway. Average length of stay is 6.5 months. Levels are defined by uniforms. The kids are taken out to clear trails in Lemoille canyon. The director, Joe Payne, says they love it.

While moving from Chicago to Jacksonville, I spared some time for a “Traincation” out west with some must-have shots in mind. Watching Amtrak’s southbound Coast Starlight surf the Pacific from Jalama Beach could not have been left out. Even devoting nearly a full day of precious vacation time for the shot was well worth it.

If you aren't familiar with this website/publication, let me just say, the magazine itself is amazing. Excellent quality, thick matte finished pages, always great artwork within with minimal advertising. Some great articles and stories inside too, from various JPG members. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in learning more about photography or just deepening your appreciation for it--give it a shot.

Yet another of the Glossy Ibis I'm afraid but I took lots of shots as I didn't know when or if ever I'd be lucky enough see one again.
Its not that they don't turn up occasionally but I have missed them before due to other commitments so I took no chances this time round.
I keep coming across shots that show off the beautiful iridescence of the plumage even when the conditions were overcast and raining as was the situation here. I suppose the available light reflected off of the mud helped this somewhat though it never does much to help me as far as getting a decent shot goes.
A beautiful bird indeed.

In recent years, the great Brooklyn Bridge — long written about, photographed, painted, walked, biked and driven over; even sailed under — has become a gallery for thousands of padlocks known as love locks.
Some are engraved with initials, names and dates. Some have that information inscribed upon them, passionately, with a Sharpie. Some carry little pictures of New York landmarks like the Empire State Building. Most tell nothing about who put them there, or why.
“The lock signifies the commitment,” some say. “It will be a reminder every time we even see the bridge, let alone walk across it, that there was this one day when we decided that our love was so important.”
Unfortunately, reality must intrude, as it so often does. Love-struck couples’ feelings may or may not last forever, but their locks will definitely not. The Department of Transportation clips locks on the bridge every few weeks and has taken away 9,000 in the last 11 months. A spokesman for the agency said crews cleaned the bridge twice a week and removes locks as needed.

Next Saturday, my partner David and I will be celebrating our civil partnership: another two gay men recording our love and commitment to each other. Nothing that should alarm any sane person. Yet, while the politicians and church debate that “this isn’t a marriage” with a degree of hate-mongering rhetoric knocking about, equally it’s clear to me that old wedding traditions don’t apply either.
A skype camera at Wandsworth town hall will film the event so Mum and Dad can watch in Australia, as no religion is involved the words will be our own, and the food afterwards will be simply what we want to eat. So as much as I admire the traditional iced fruit cake in the abstract, when it’s our ceremony I can think of many other cakes I’d rather choose.
