A fire in a San Jose recycling facility went to three alarms, May 2, 2013. The fire got into large bales of cardboard and other recycling material, and presented fire fighters with several challenges. After about 6 hours the fire was under control, although fire crews remained on scene overnight pulling apart bales of cardboard to extinguish all the smoldering debris.

After more than a year in production San Jose Fire Department finally put the first of six new Battalion Chief vehicles into service in October 2013. This photo was taken on it's second day in service as Battalion 13, at a 2 alarm condo fire.

The new units are some of the first 2013 model Chevy Suburbans off the factory production line when the 2013 models started production in August 2012, and were delivered to San Jose several weeks later.

Since that time the units have undergone preparation for use as Incident Command vehicles and have been fitted with emergency lighting, communications equipment and more. This is the final result.

The other units will be coming into service at a rate of roughly one every two weeks, until all 5 front line BC rigs have been replaced, and there will be one as a reserve.

Originally this was just the walker part of the build, then I added a landing pad when I found out how strong it was after strength testing it, then I decided why not add two more. I might make a rebel AT-MCC later down the line, but for now, at least, I’m done with this build

The aircraft impacts the water and breaks apart. Parts of the airplane strike three vehicles driving on Thomas Avenue, pushing them into the parking lot south of Runway 4 and creating a debris field. The fuselage bursts into flames as it skids onto the parking area southwest of the runway. Four victims are flung into the Potomac River with multiple victims located in the parking lot. Additional, two airport shuttle buses have collided in the parking lot.

U.S. Navy Nuclear Fallout Shelter

The shelters Command center was where the Commander and other high ranking officers would take care of business during exercises or times of war. This was the only room in the shelter that had four solid walls. The rest of the shelter is one massive area partitioned with OD canvas.

The San Francisco Bay Area has been a well defended part of the United States since the Civil War. The Cold War was no exception. The military took the threat of nuclear attack very serious and built several shelters. Thankfully nuclear war never broke out, but the remains of these shelters are a chilling reminder of just how real the situation was.

A little after 6:00am firefighters at San Jose Station 9 were awoken by someone at the front door. The Chef at Flames Coffee Shop across the street was reporting the restaurant was on fire. Engine 9's Captain looked across the way to see the restaurant was fully involved in flames and got on the radio to request a first and second alarm response.

What apparently started as a grease fire in the kitchen quickly turned the whole building into an inferno. Flames were shooting 60' or more into the air. The incident escalated to a 3rd and 4th alarm before an extended defensive attack finally quenched the flames.

No-one was injured during the blaze.
