A colourful and comical saga spanning four generations, related by Belmondo, the boy who becomes a gypsy king, and constructs his own village, “Shanghai”, against the rise and fall of the Yugoslav Republic.
Shanghai Gypsy is the most expensive Slovenian film ever made, involving the creation of huge sets near Maribor for this acclaimed adaptation of novelist Feri Lainscek's greatest literary success, and drawing on acting and musical talents from across the region. Some of the film’s sequences were also shot in Trieste, Italy. Shanghai Gypsy won Best Film at the South-East European Film Festival, Paris, in 2013
The film screening was introduced by director Marko Nabersnik (Best Screenplay Award, World Film Festival, Montreal) and Visar Vishka (Best Actor, FestFilmKosova), and followed by a Q&A session moderated by BBC broadcaster Phillip Bergson.

In downtown Montréal on May 31st, 2018, the building 2155 Rue Guy, a/k/a 2155 Guy, a/k/a Tour Guy, as viewed from the east side (locally the "south" side) of Boulevard de Maisonneuve Ouest between Rue Mackay and Rue Guy.
Says here it was built in 1954 with renovations in 1990 and 2005.

From watching Buzzards above the moors near Harden Moss to following a heron on the canal with a few comical goats thrown in I didn't have a bad weekend really. The Buzzards seemed to appear out of nowhere as usual, moving fast and flying high they took a bit of tracking. The heron on the other hand took an hour to walk from the other side of the reservoir to a point close to me. it stopped at an awkward angle for me to photograph it without me moving and being seen. It then did a short flight to the canal, I moved and sat on a parapet wall above a deep drop in to a canal lock. The heron skipped over the canal and came so close that I had to lean back as far as I could without actually moving and being seen just to get the bird in the frame. At times I could only get partial shots. It them flew past me, almost brushing me and landed nearby on the towpath. Fortunately on this Saturday evening it was quiet and as it walked along the towpath I shadowed it at a distance, it flew in to the canal and was eventually frightened off by dogs. My arms were killing me I'd been holding the lens and camera in front of me non stop for an hour, fighting the cramp in my left arm. The things we do.
The goats on the wall top were a bit of a distraction as I followed three Buzzards messing around in a field near a farm in the afternoon and I snatched a few shots, the one behind was headbutting the others from behind to make them keep moving, very comical.
Highly playful and physical, and at times teasingly comical – this is a cheeky dance celebration of the child within.

There were many more, both more creepy and even comical, but I got busted for taking video!

And often delivered with French or vaguely European accents...
"Oh, what a disgusting point of view!" (Directed at the onlookers, I suspect.)

One of my favourite rooms was when one of the mannequins emmitted some birdlike whistles, followed by some very Mozartian trills and then some more jazzy stuff. Oh. I wish I had sneaked a video... enchanting.
Yes, this is a crappy image but the situation was so comical I couldn't help posting about it. So, it is snowing in Oslo; it is February in Norway so that isn't so odd. What is strange is the general lack of preparedness, not only among the general population, but also among the city's bus drivers.
This was the unfortunate scene at the bottom of my hill this evening. When my bus entered the intersection there were already two buses stopped and blocking traffic. I can't quite make out what happened; it doesn't look like either of them hit anything and one of them was heading downhill so I'm not sure why it was stopped. But in any case, along comes my bus which has to move into the lane for oncoming traffic in order to get around the first two buses, whereupon it hits one of the buses! The bus driver was so concerned about losing traction that he didn't even notice having hit the other bus until all of his passengers started screaming for him to stop (fortunately, none of us were hurt). And as if that isn't bad enough, a fourth bus comes along pretty much immediately. He doesn't hit anything but he does end up blocking traffic even further. This shot is taken during rush hour when the traffic at this intersection is blocked in three directions. There were a ton of vehicles trying to get up this hill and over this crest but everything conspired against them. It was a total mess!
Needless to say, the roads are slick! I've got a ton of errands to run tomorrow but I will not be driving.

There is a 17th century church built using stones from an earlier Spanish church at Pukara. The old church was in turn built on top of a pre-Inca "pyramid". Outside the church sits a wizened old Andean woman, begging. The art of begging in Peru hasn't reached the zenith of Asian begging but it is on the way. Western tourists are feeding the addiction and don't seem able to accept that it is a cruel and crippling fate for the recipients of their alms. Perhaps most annoying are the women in Cuzco who drag around baby animals in the first few days of their lives for gullible tourists to photograph for a sole or two. These poor animals are denied the succour of their mothers, and the mothers are denied the comfort of their young. I hold that anyone who has an alpaca and its baby is rich beyond understanding. They have more than me and should not pretend to be poor. There is also amusement. I almost burst into laughter at the sight of a beggar with a faked abcsess on his shin. It was so theatrical it was comical. Likewise, being able to afford the makeup means this one isn't poor either. Of course, the church in South America is very rich. Once it assisted the pious to divest themselves of wealth and ministered to the poor. Now it still helps by fleecing tourists for a view of its riches. A religion who is acquisitive but cannot, and will not, help its flock has lost all relevance.

When night descended on the campsite I decided to take a quick photo of a hanging novelty light. Even though its shaky and blurred as I couldn't be arsed to retrieve my tripod from the car I still really like the "naffness" of this photo!

Nowadays it's an office building but I can still remember when it was a house. Oh it was teeming with residents.
Get that monstertruck out of my city, I am tired of it blocking my view.
The building is physically within the federally-designated Hillside Historic District, but the feds rejected it for inclusion in their precious district (i.e., it was labeled a "noncontributing property"), presumably because of its various weird remodelings. But the various weird remodelings are the reason why it is lovably comical!

From watching Buzzards above the moors near Harden Moss to following a heron on the canal with a few comical goats thrown in I didn't have a bad weekend really. The Buzzards seemed to appear out of nowhere as usual, moving fast and flying high they took a bit of tracking. The heron on the other hand took an hour to walk from the other side of the reservoir to a point close to me. it stopped at an awkward angle for me to photograph it without me moving and being seen. It then did a short flight to the canal, I moved and sat on a parapet wall above a deep drop in to a canal lock. The heron skipped over the canal and came so close that I had to lean back as far as I could without actually moving and being seen just to get the bird in the frame. At times I could only get partial shots. It them flew past me, almost brushing me and landed nearby on the towpath. Fortunately on this Saturday evening it was quiet and as it walked along the towpath I shadowed it at a distance, it flew in to the canal and was eventually frightened off by dogs. My arms were killing me I'd been holding the lens and camera in front of me non stop for an hour, fighting the cramp in my left arm. The things we do.
The goats on the wall top were a bit of a distraction as I followed three Buzzards messing around in a field near a farm in the afternoon and I snatched a few shots, the one behind was headbutting the others from behind to make them keep moving, very comical.

Warren Stratford poly resin professions figurines. orn in Victoria, BC, Canada in July of 1965, Warren is a pioneer of highly detailed comic art.
He has adhered to fine art sculpting principles throughout his long career and is considered the most consistently representative comic sculpture in the world.
As a youth in the Fairfield area of Victoria, Warren was encouraged by a number of mentors and teachers to sculpt in the free-standing form, a practice he has never strayed from. One of his funniest memories was when he was a young and impressionable teenager in an advanced sculpting class. Warren was enthusiastic when the teacher said they were going to sculpt a live model one evening. He was not quite prepared as the beautiful woman completely disrobed on the stage in front of the students. Being the shy, youngest member of the class he quickly turned around and sculptured a very long haired woman rising out of a rock at the waist. The model was not pleased with his work but the teacher loved it!
warren stratfordWarren soon began to concern himself with his lifelong objective: portraying the variations of humor and atmosphere brought on by comical things he thinks about. Rather than copy others as was the traditional practice of young artists, Warren learned from people around him, from the landscape itself, and from the works of his older contemporaries. Warren’s representation of humor are based on his observations of people he meets and interviews.
He often shows natural color by breaking it down into its different components as a prism does. Eliminating dull and boring from his palette, Warren rejected entirely the academic approach to comic sculpting.
Warren gIn the Signature Series Warren allows his vision of light to dissolve the real structures of his subjects. To do this he chose simple subjects, making several humorous studies of the same subject at different occupations or activities.
Warren shares his time between Asia and his home town Victoria. Look for more Signature Series as Warren is always finding humor wherever he goes.
Warren’s work is particularly well represented in shops around the world. It is also included in many famous private collections.
I am sure there is a comical caption for this shot but I haven't got it just yet. 57307 gets ready to couple up to 390038 at the north end of platform 3 at Preston on 08 April 2007. The Pendolino was heading to Glasgow and there had been a problem on the WCML which initially meant that 57307 was going to be attached to the south end of the train so that it could be dragged via the S&C. For reasons that now escape me, even with the WCML reopened, the 57 was still used in order to get it back to where it needed to be.
