What a wild looking flower. Cathy Villa, one of the gardeners, tells me this is an heirloom flower. I've never seen or heard of it.

 

I do think a batch of these would look great at the back of my own garden.

These were taken at the Clay Cook vs. Levi Lowrey show at Club Passim in Cambridge, MA on 01/24/11. It was an excellent show! The third artisit is Andrew Combs. He helped out selling merchandise and also played a few songs. Another very talented musician.

The comb-clawed beetles, like this Hymenorus sp., were once in the family Alleculidae, but are now in the Tenebrionidae. Colorado Springs, Colorado, July 9.

The seeds are used as a diuretic. The tribals use the stalk of the flower to tease crabs out of their hide outs.

Tue 4Dec06: Part of Eduardo Chillida's Wind Comb sculpture with waves breaking over it. It was nearly night. For scale, the 'teeth' of the Wind Comb are 30cm (1ft) thick.

Comb jelly. They are bioluminescent, meaning they produce light. Obviously a still picture cannot capture the effect, but they pulse and glow. Really cool little creatures.

This symbolizes beauty. It is a symbol for female grooming and hygiene in general. 'Duafe' was, and still is a prized tool in a West African woman's cosmetic gadgets.
