Interesting play of words......You add 'less' to colour and it fades!

Even though you added something, still it becomes less!

... and colourless, so some people leave the shore behind and go sailing!

The other day, my brother asked me to draw something

like a cute elephant or rhinoceros or something, because

he once saw another one of my paintings that he liked. Hm,

i sorta tried to doodle an elephant, then a rhino, eh, it didnt

work out so i went here (on flickr) to find some pics of rhinos

to draw. A drawing of the side view of this type of animal was

my first attempt on drawing rhinoceros, and this is the second.

Its ok, i guess. . .

I showed my brother the drawing, telling him i couldnt draw

what he asked. . . He told me that its good but said that i should

add colour. I told him that im horrible with colours, but then he

spoke of something that i will always remember:

(From my memory, this is sorta what he said to me)

. . .

"One can write a really good book

using just basic english, but that person

can make his book even better simply w/

a wider range of vocabulary."

"This kind drawing is good, but like the guy

with the book, you can make your art

much more interesting with colour."

. . .

I dunno, theres just something that my brother says that i

somehow understand in a way that i cannot describe in words. . .

on a hazy, foggy Sunday morning.

Hmm, too harsh on the black point?

edit - toned down the blacks a bit, now i'm happy.

Eero Antero Mäntyranta: A Skiing Legend with Genetic Prowess and Controversies

Eero Antero Mäntyranta, born on November 20, 1937, in Pello, Finland, etched his name into the annals of cross-country skiing history as one of the most successful athletes in the sport. His remarkable career spanned four Winter Olympics, from 1960 to 1972, where he secured a total of seven medals, showcasing his extraordinary endurance and prowess on the snow-covered tracks. The 1964 Winter Olympics, in particular, earned him the moniker "Mister Seefeld," a tribute to the venue where the cross-country skiing and biathlon events unfolded.

Mäntyranta's accolades extended beyond the Olympic stage, with the Finnish Ministry of Education recognizing his outstanding contributions to sports by awarding him the prestigious Pro Urheilu letter of recognition in 2000. Additionally, a museum dedicated to Mäntyranta stands as a testament to his legacy in Pello, his birthplace, preserving the memories of his achievements for generations to come.

One of the intriguing aspects of Mäntyranta's success lies in his genetic predisposition. He was diagnosed with primary familial and congenital polycythemia (PFCP), a condition characterized by an abnormal increase in red blood cell mass and hemoglobin. This elevation in hematocrit levels, caused by a mutation in the erythropoietin receptor (EPOR) gene, enhances the blood's capacity to transport oxygen, thereby contributing to Mäntyranta's remarkable endurance and performance on the skiing trails. The discovery of this genetic mutation through a DNA study in 1993 shed light on the unique physiological factors that set Mäntyranta apart from his peers.

However, Mäntyranta's career was not without controversy. In 1972, he tested positive for amphetamine during a Finnish competition, marking the first instance of a Finnish athlete being caught doping. Subsequently, he admitted to taking hormones, a practice that was not yet prohibited at the time. This revelation added a layer of complexity to his legacy, as fans grappled with the ethical implications of performance-enhancing substances in sports.

Despite the controversies, Mäntyranta's achievements in the realm of cross-country skiing remain noteworthy. His prowess extended to various championships, including the Olympics, World Championships, and National domestic competitions. In these arenas, he amassed an impressive collection of five gold, two silver, and two bronze medals. The Holmenkollen ski festival, a prestigious event in the skiing calendar, also witnessed Mäntyranta's dominance, with first-place finishes in 1962, 1964, and 1968 in the 15 km category. His excellence was further acknowledged with the Holmenkollen medal in 1964, shared with fellow athletes Veikko Kankkonen, Georg Thoma, and Halvor Næs.

The Salpausselkä games, another significant fixture in the skiing calendar, saw Mäntyranta emerge victorious in 1964 and 1972, adding to his illustrious career. These championships, along with his Olympic triumphs, solidified Mäntyranta's status as a skiing legend, albeit one whose legacy is tinged with the complexities of genetic advantages and the ethical dilemmas surrounding performance-enhancing substances. The impact of his contributions resonates not only through the medals he won but also in the scientific understanding of the intersection between genetics and athletic prowess. Eero Antero Mäntyranta remains a symbol of both sporting excellence and the challenges that come with pushing the boundaries of human performance.

These transparent and almost colourless hydromedusae usually spend the daylight hours one meter or more underwater and surface at night to feed, but they can be trapped in tide pools when the tide goes out. They have four frilly-edged radial canals forming a cross. The slit-like mouth extends as open grooves along the underside of the canals. They have hundreds of short tentacles along the rim. A large adult may have several thousand tentacles. They may grow to 22 cm in diameter. This one was about 12 cm.
