This Collared Plover was one of several that we saw on the sandbars along the Cuiaba River during our trip to the Pantanal. While we watched, this little guy kept very busy chasing all the other birds away from his little patch of sand. It was quite entertaining.

Collared Sparrowhawk
+===================+
This is a very old and well used nest.
First time I located it some years back it served a White-faced Heron, then, a Raven, and a Sparrowhawk for a season.
But the the past 3-4 years its been empty.
Was suprised to find it had been somewhat refurbished.
But what was hard to figure out is the Sparrowhawks were resting 100-150 metres away and one would make occasional noisy circuits through the forest, landing for a few seconds on the 'old' nest.
== Two Weeks later it was all obvious as a little fluffy white head peeked over the edge.

It is found in Sub-Saharan Africa through Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
The black-collared barbet usually is about 20–25 cm long, plump-looking and has a large head. It also has the heavy bill fringed with bristles that is characteristic of the genus Lybius.[2] This barbet has a very obvious black collar and head which gives reference to its name. It also has a fire-engine red coloring around the eyes and beak.[3] It has morphologically variable coloring because there is a replacement of a red head with a black head. It also has a more intense color and is larger than other barbets. This bird is also sexually monomorphic, which means that there is generally no phenotypic difference between the males and females of this species. The morphology, size and behavior are basically the same.[4]
The collared falconet (Microhierax caerulescens) is a species of bird of prey in the family Falconidae.
It is found in the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia, ranging across Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, India, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam. Its natural habitat is temperate forest, often on the edges of broadleaf forest.
It is 18 cm (7.1 in) long. Rapid wingbeats are interspersed with long glides. When perched, it is described as being "rather shrikelike".
The collared falconet is a very small falcon, shrike-like in shape, mainly pied and having bold white supercilia and collar, with relatively heavy double-toothed bill. It has shortish wings, a medium-length tail, strong half-feathered legs, and powerful feet. It perches conspicuously on top or edge of tree or bush, often on dead twig, frequently bobbing head and slowly moving tail up and down; wing-tips less than half down tail. Sexes are similar.

Collared Dove / streptopelia decaocto. Northumberland. 18/06/24.
With time to kill on a dull, dreary evening, I visited a small beach hoping to find and photograph Rock Pipits. It was an unsuccessful attempt although I was entertained by various birds who were scavenging for food along the strand line. This Collared Dove really surprised me when it dropped down ... not a species I associate with beaches!

Juvenile Collared Sparrowhawk (Accipiter cirrocephalus) flying in the late evening sun near Castlemaine, central Victoria, Australia. I only very rarely encounter this species of raptor, so much so that I am yet to see an adult bird with mature plumage. These raptors seem to like the eucalypts along the streams in this area.

Collared Doves are a pale, pinky-brown-grey colour, with a distinctive black neck collar (as the name suggests). They have deep red eyes and reddish feet. Their cooing, which can sometimes seem to go on forever, will be a familiar sound to many of you. Although you'll often see them on their own or in pairs, flocks may form where there is a lot of food available. (RSPB).
My thanks to anyone who clicks or comments on this photo. It is much appreciated.

Looking very frightened, just hope it made it. FYI - I've seen more adult pairs since this shot was taken.

'PAIR BONDING.'
At the end of an unseasonably warm day in late February, 2019, I spotted these two having a moment on a pantile roof ridge. They were obviously enjoying the warmth of the late afternoon sun ... and each other, as they indulged in frequent pair bonding behaviours.
