The bell tower on St. Olaf church in North Dakota has been slowly collapsing over the past few years. St. Olaf Church, is one of the state’s classic abandoned prairie churches—built by early Scandinavian settlers and long central to the surrounding farming community. After the congregation dwindled and services ended, the wooden structure was left to the elements, its steeple and siding weathering into the iconic, timeworn look it has today.

Behind this shattered doorway lies a realm where light dares not tread. The crumbled stones and splintered wood form a desperate blockade against unspeakable horrors lurking beyond. Each stone whispers tales of untold suffering, and the air itself is heavy with the weight of despair. These doors must remain closed, for they guard against a darkness so profound that it devours hope and sanity alike. The passage beyond is not merely a door but a threshold into the abyss.

This barn has almost completely collapsed exposing its use for storage over the last century. The farm it once served was replaced with a housing development for many decades now.
This is a B&W HDR photo of a dilapidated, abandoned cabin. The windows and wall of one side of the cabin have collapsed.
The huge mossy limestone boulders that fill this section of Bullock Creek, in the Paparoa National Park, near Punaikaki, suggest that a large cave probably once ran through here, and that the roof collapsed into the stream bed long ago. Even now, the stream runs through a cave far below these boulders, to emerge in the valley lower down.

It is mostly obscured from the road by growth and green leaves between late spring and early autumn.

I've used that name on a few of my Prairies images - I guess I like photographing collapsed buildings or maybe I'm just not very creative when it comes to titles.

Sometimes it really is the journey that can be rewarding. This roadside photo on the way to Yarmouth, came as a result of turning around after the initial drive by. It just looked too good to pass up, so only seconds down the highway, a tertiary road allowed me to make my way back.
The old collapsed barn and 1950's vintage truck were just waiting to be photographed. The colours too were fabulous with all the basics covered. Red, green, and blue. It was topped off with that wisp of a cloud, that provided a tantalizing bit of framing.

How's that for a creative title? Umm... I know, not very. I really struggle with titles.
Another one from the great trip out west with Len Langevin. This was taken on a day when we had these lovely overcast, hazy conditions.
Almost every time I explore back roads in the Bear Lake Valley I find more buildings that collapsed under last winter's snowpack. On this day I found four buildings including this huge horse arena on the Drue Smith ranch. Many of the doomed buildings are modern steel structures like this one.
