I think the prolonged wet weather must have undermined the bank - the pathways and grass areas have been completely flooded several times in the last couple of months - so that a strong wind knocked it over. When I first saw it in the morning, it had crashed straight through the fencing erected for the "renovation" of the park. The trunk has since been cut through to allow the fence to be repaired, but since the park is closed, I guess they're in no hurry to remove it - it's still there a couple of weeks later.
