You wouldn't want to be going down these steps in Medieval times and you would not be walking back up them
River Glomma on a very cold day in January. The Glomma is Norway's largest river.
Shortly before, the Vorma comes into the Glomma and this carries warm deep water from Norway's largest lake, the Mjøsa. Therefore the Glomma is difficult to freeze over here.
This is Paulina Falls in Oregon, part of the 54,822-acre Newberry Volcanic Monument area. It was a very chilly day when we explored this area. The East and West Towers from the Outer Bailey through the South Barbican Walls. The walls were badly damaged during the Parliamentry Seige in 1644. The Castle held out for 3 month before surrendering to Sir Thomas Fairfax's New Model Army 8 November 1644. The scars of the siege can still be seen.
After a last farewell, he left on his bicycle in the late setting sun of afternoon on that cold and blustery winter day. The snow that had melted and then froze to ice showed reflections on the road, but remained intact in the heaped mounds on the sides. I did in 2017 an I hope that I will again sometime this year of 2018 or 2019.! Dear friends must never be forgotten!
