This is probably my favorite shot from this season so far :)

I had a really cold time sleeping in my car the night before but it all paid off when I woke up and had this colorful, foggy autumn morning...

I hope you had a great start into the week :)

Last of the light and that breeze was getting cold... time for home ..

Since temps are in the 90s now in the central valley, it has me thinking of a colder time less than 2 months ago. Alternative version of this scene.

It's ironic that in order to see the golden larch, we have to hike to some of the highest elevation lakes in the Cascades at a bitterly cold time of year.

Saturday night cruising in Paprihaven.

Jimbo Tuggins is prepping for the Christmas holidays. For Jimbo that means he and Carly take their custom Volkswagen Hauler down to the Lake Paprihaven Camping Park.

The camp grounds are not as crowded during this colder time of the year and Jimbo knows the other regulars will be there.

But none of the others have an rig quite like his custom VW bus. In the hauler Jimbo has his deluxe tent, generator, ATVs and all the comforts of camping. It remains the talk of the park!

Такое ощущение, словно праздники уже наступили. Даже не верится что нужно еще несколько дней поработать

I walked and walked in search of coldcrest ... none.

Since last cold time, no one.

I hope that they are nesting and that I'll see a lot of them very soon.

So here an old photo (the last I could see 2 monthes ago).

Now that I'm getting over this cold, time to face the work I need to catch up on... is it too much to ask that the world be sick with me?

Other pic

This is from last winter ... no where as cold here yet ... YET being the word. Let's hope it does not get this bad. But it did make for a pretty view with the river frozen over.

Would be a cold time sitting out there and viewing it from the bench on the end of the pier.

Hello, December! Some milder temperatures for us this week. Today, it is only -3C (windchill -6C) and the rest of the week is supposed to hover just above or just below 0C.

This photo was taken on 24 September 2019, when I took a drive into the mountains. I am adding the description that I wrote under a few other previously posted photos from the same trip.

"Well, the weather forecast for Kananaskis for 24 September 2019 was not exactly accurate - sun, with cloud in the afternoon. They kind of forgot to mention the strong wind, light rain .... and SNOW! For a few minutes, it was one kind of weather, then a few more minutes of a different kind, repeated throughout the afternoon.

Our temperatures are falling - forecast for rain/light snow today, then three days of snow with temps down to around -1C. What a way to celebrate the first few days of fall. The expected snow will probably remove quite a few of the golden leaves, so I wanted anther chance to see and photograph them while I had the chance.

The sky was blue when I set out that morning and I felt quite hopeful. When I go to Kananaskis, I always go south from the city. I had no idea where I would be going, but I knew that it wouldn't be as far as I would have liked. As it turned out, I had a few surprises along the way, so it was a real mixed day of photo opportunities - my favourite kind of day.

After stopping to take a few scenic shots on the way to the main highway through Kananaskis, I eventually reached the area where the American Pikas live. I really lucked out almost straight away, as the only few photos I took were when one Pika showed itself, and that was within maybe ten minutes. By this time, the wind was strong and it was snowing, and it was cold! Time to get out of there, as the scree slope is treacherous enough on a calm, clear day.

Driving further north, I was delighted to see a convoy of maybe eight or so beautiful old cars heading in my direction. Couldn't resist, so I followed them when they turned off into a small picnic area. I asked if I could take a few quick photos and they were happy enough for me to do that. One car owner did comment about blurry photos because of the falling snow, but surprisingly my photos came out sharp enough.

Further on, I made a quick stop at another pull-off and was happy to notice a few mushrooms. When I turned around to head for home, I was even happier. I pulled over to take a photo of one of the mountain peaks. One tiny white speck in the distance, just off the road, caught my eye. When I went to check it out, I found myself staring at a little group of Shaggy Mane/Inky Cap mushrooms. The largest one had already started the process of curling up the rim of its cap and dripping a black ink. So much rain this year has resulted in such an amazing fungi season.

Much closer to home, I decided to take a side road that has such beautiful hill and mountain views. An old wooden barn was a welcome surprise - I don't remember seeing this one before.

So, a lovely day out, driving 320 km, with such a mixture of weather and sightings. So glad I did decide to go - as usual, a very last minute decision, but basically, I just need to grab my cameras and go : )"

It's always a treat when these pretty male purple finches stop by. These guys are used to frigid weather so he'll be just fine during this dangerously-cold time.

The view from the landing at old Fulton Street in Brooklyn is a killer. Just below the Brooklyn Bridge and overlooking the East River, the marina boasts of not just the Manhattan skyline but also of the incredible Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory. I could not have enough of their homemade treat- a cold treat even in such a cold time.

The days are getting darker and colder. Time to enjoy some warm tea ♥

It's a delight to find anything moving at this cold time of year. This Treehopper was moving, but not very fast.

The day as we know it is disappearing behind the distant horizon, the frozen time has come.

About:

This is one from the archives. I pulled it out today because of the warning I feel Mother Nature gave me back in November. The feeling I got was: "Enjoy this while you can, the dark and cold time is coming".

We haven't seen the sun in many days now, my world is all about snow and whiteout... Today it started raining so all the snow is starting melting... Not a pretty sight...

It was difficult to follow this dipper with my lens in my hide as this small alpine river is rather steep and there are lot of big rocks which obstruct the view. What is even more stunning that this dipper stays all year around at this place, even if there's a lot of snow and the stream is almost entirely frozen or covered with snow - but the few openings during the cold time of the year still seem to be enough for this stunning, resistant bird.

use a nice day at the cold time of the year to take some nice shots of the beautiful nature

Out of the fog

On my way to several appointments dealing with research for my first book in Berlin and points both north and east I included a visit of the now called "Döllnitzbahn" from Oschatz to Mügeln. It was still all steam. Since the integration of the Deutsche Bundesbahn and the Deutsche Reichsbahn roster in 1992 the century-old steamers shared the same roster as the 250 kph ICE trains.

I opted for a night train from Karlsruhe by way of Frankfurt to Leipzig. With a local train I reached Oschatz the next day and took public transport to Mügeln as by the schedule the lone active locomotive should be there.

On September 13, 1993 I found not one but two Meyers under steam in the dense fog at Mügeln. The 099 713, as the former Deutsche Reichsbahn 99 1608 was now numbered, was the scheduled steamer while a sister loco was out for a retuning of the safety valves.

The friendly staff let me have a look inside the shed where three more Meyers were sitting cold. Time was running up, by end of the year the ownership went to the private entity of the Döllnitzbahn GmbH. Regular steam ended 1994, freight ended in 2001.

I hiked along the line to Schweta, a distance of three kilometers to wait for the freight to Oschatz. A couple of coal empties was all the business to do. The train was mostly on a sight downgrade here, the fire was doing good so the fireman enjoyed a few minutes at the cab opening of the engine built in 1921. There are no windows to close, anyways.

Remember, this was a daily affair in Germany in 1993.

I had this snapshots forever, I should really edit a little bit more often. Also, these boots they're still humongous, one of my first purchases on SL and even with the size issue I still love them, never got to buy the actual female version. X▽X...I'm always using the same shoes here... need to get new boots against the SL cold! Time to eplore winter sims...

Lightning Strikes above Portland, Oregon.

After a long, cold time-lapse of the sunset I'm so glad I stuck around while the lightning show began! My first time capturing photos of lightning and it turned out fairly well. This is two separate exposures combined into one through Photoshop's photo-merge.

Coming in the cold time,

Prophet of the gay time,

Prophet of the May time,

Prophet of the roses,

Many, many welcomes,

Taken on Tuesday night, it was -3° standing on the bank of the Liffey. I would have liked to spend more time about here but I was not prepared for the cold. Time to get the Winter gear back in the car!
