About Cogs

I was going to go out to do a sunset shoot this afternoon, but lack of clouds and a sick partner put a stop to that idea so I went to one of my fall back shoot ideas. This is the inside of a old clock I borrowed from a friend of mine before we moved

At least some of these still need to work. Although milling ceased after the death of the last miller in 1981, the river, cuts and ponds are very actively managed by the rivers authority.

Dr. Fisher's garden would flood easily without intervention when it pours down, as it does today.

There is a brief article here completedorset.co.uk/throop-mill/ (accompanied by some truly hideous HDR pics)

Nice offered up brillaint weather. The wealthy made their way to the pebble beach and basked in the suns glory. Remnants of a fishing past scattered the borders of the beach, themselves also enjoying the warmth

A close up of the base of a small dockside crane on the Quay at Scarbrough (UK). I found this rusting and weathered crane base intresting. I guess the crane is used for unloading fishing boats.

The sign is a bit out of focus, but it says:

Cog Railway "ABT" System

The cog system exhibited here is the one used by the Manitou and Pike's Peak Railway. It was invented by the Swiss engineer Dr. Roman Abt. These t-rails (which support the weight), rack rails (which mesh with the cogs), and cog wheels are actual size. The grade here is set at twenty-five percent, or one foot rise for every four feet of forward travel. This is the maximu mgrade of the Pike's Peak Cog Railway. Adhesion railways have a maximum grade of about eight percent.

Out and about today, i thought the cogs might highlight Mo's hair. She doesn't seem so sure.
