This is a coffee-table book (photos with poems / quotes) by a German female photographer ... in the background one of our book shelves and a glass cabinet ... there are a lot of book shelves and books in our flat : ))

Crazy Tuesday - theme of September 6, 2022: libraries and books

Happy Crazy Tuesday !

I will catch up in the evening

Der Sekretär ist sprachlos.

---

Secretary is speechless.

Oh, and it's alright, it's alright, it's alright

You can't be forever blessed

Still, tomorrow's going to be another working day

And I'm trying to get some rest

That's all I'm trying to get some rest

(from: “American Tune” by Paul Simon)

---

Simon and Garfunkel's "Concert in Central Park" was Secretary's first CD ("American Tune" is track #9). He saw Henri Cartier-Bresson's photobook "America in Passing" on his first business trip to Bilbao in the display of a bookstore right next to his hotel and simply could not resist.

Eine kleine Hommage des Sekretärs an Erich Salomon (* 28. April 1886 in Berlin, † 7.

---

A small tribute by the Secretary to Erich Salomon (* April 28, 1886 in Berlin, † July 7, 1944 in Auschwitz) was one of the fathers, if not THE father, of modern photojournalism in the post-World War I era. His brand name included a doctorate (of law), and so he marketed his images as "Dr. Erich Salomon." He became famous mainly for his photographs of politicians and the numerous diplomatic conferences of the time, as well as the "League of Nations".

---

Even in these times, which are really not ideal for traveling, the secretary cannot stop making plans...

---

He had survived the Spanish Civil War, also World War II (where, among other things, he had accompanied the first wave of landing troops on D-Day). On May 25, 1954, Robert Capa (actually Endre Ernő Friedmann, André Friedmann or also Andrei Friedmann), for many THE war photographer of his time, set his foot on an anti-personnel mine in Thái-Bình in French Indochina.

---

Occasionally the Secretary takes the role of the "royal photographer" at professional events. Then he tries, sometimes more and sometimes less successfully, to be invisible without hiding, to be in the middle of it all and yet stand beside as an observer, and all in all to behave like the great role model Dr. Erich Salomon (1886 - 1944), whom, for example, Arisitide Briand (1862 - 1932, French politician, Nobel Peace Prize in 1926 together with Gustav Stresemann) mockingly as well as appreciatively called the "Roi des indiscrets" (allegedly in the picture shown, when he had just spotted him).

---

With the purchase of an Elmar 3.5cm f3.5 in addition to the Summar 5cm f2 and Elmar 9cm f4, Secretary’s Leica gear is complete (for the time being, at least...). Now he is eager to stroll through the streets and alleys with his good old Leica IIIb, the lenses and some additional acessories.

---

Secretary is working semi-seriously on a rather crazy project: his first book.

The photographs in “writing on the wall” are partly in color and partly in black and white. They were partly taken with reasonably modern cameras, partly with various older analog models.

Professionally designed by Secretary's daughter, he has now had two sample copies produced by a manufacturer of high-quality photo books - simply to hold it in his hand and get a feel for how it might look. Very tentatively, he is now starting to look for possible publishers.

Here you can see Pedro taking a very first look. He finds it quite intersting.

---

As expected, it didn't take long for Pedro to discover Secretary's "new" camera. Now he has also picked up an illustrated book and travel guide to Brittany and is making travel plans in his (and Secretary's) favorite armchair...

I wanted to show you all a few photos of an outdoor patio space that I have created for a client. My client wanted to maintain a traditional feel to the decor as the home that they are currently using is rather traditional. However, still being able to incorporate modern elements and pieces into the space in order to make the space feel updated and current was a top priority.

These photos have been taken by my amazing friend Alexxandro www.flickr.com/photos/153856267@N06/

P.S. If you would like to know the name of the store or designer who has created any of the pieces you see in this photo please feel free to IM me in world (Brinks Lemmon) and I'll send you the store/designer information.

I have a request for some of you!!!

I think I speak for a majority of people (especially those of the sensitive-creative-variety) when I say that it's so hard to to gather up the courage to ask for anything. But here goes.

If you have purchased my book in the U.S. using Amazon: (direct link: NY Through the Lens - US Version )...

Or if you have purchased my book in Europe and other parts of the world using Amazon UK: (direct link: NY Through the Lens - UK Version )...

...could you take a moment or two to write a review of the book on Amazon?

I know. I know. It's hard to get the fingers and mind warmed up enough to do the deed. I, myself, have bizarre procrastination issues when it comes to writing reviews of things.

I would be super grateful if somehow all moments in the universe align perfectly to rev up your fingers and mind to write a review of my book! :)

I would also like to take the time to say thank you to everyone when it comes to my book’s impending book release (it releases in stores in the U.S. in 5 days!).

I have received so many moving messages and comments in the various places I can be found online posting my photography. All those photos you have shared with me with my book arriving to your homes have been so incredibly touching. This is one of the most surreal experiences I have ever had and I am so grateful. I am also trying to brainstorm some fun and interesting ways to thank all of you.

On a related note, I finally had a little time to create a Goodreads Author profile for myself. If any of you are on there too, here is my author profile: bit.ly/nycauthorgoodreads .

There is a really great community of book lovers on Goodreads that I am enjoying immensely.

For anyone waiting on the book to arrive, or waiting to buy it in stores, thank you for your excitement and support. It so inspiring. I hope you enjoy the book when you finally get to dive into it.

Much love to all of you ♥.

There is a HUGE post about this over at my blog with tons of photos. It looks prettier and makes more sense and has all relevant links:

If you are curious about the book, this is the book post with all of the information about the book:

nythroughthelens.com/book

When the one24thscale team finally gets around to publishing our coffee table book, one24thscale Road Trips, we will need a preface to talk about the secrets of our success.

Of course, we shall share stories of our humble beginnings, making mediocre musicians look and sound like rock stars and transforming amateur actors into glamorous Hollywood stars. We will tell tales of all the noble sacrifices we made to make yammering, bobble-headed reporters and talk show hosts look like practitioners of a noble medium instead of being the priests of the fiendish boob-tube cult started by one, Philo T Farnsworth.

However, we would be remiss if we were to ignore the importance of the little things, like making sure our heads are screwed on tight when we start to work our magic.

What is your favorite one24thscale photo of all time? Chime in below!

What images would you like to see in a potential coffee table book? Perhaps, you might like to see something we haven't done, yet?

We ask out of curiosity and because "the ask" circles back to the starting point of this post.

Have a terrific holiday season!

"Dance Central" in Lynn, Massachusetts, thirty-three years ago.

That's me sitting in the front left. They needed a partner, and I was there. It was the most fun I ever had in a class! Lifts were very delightful, and I remember it well. The dancers were totally weightless and I was on cloud nine.

The photographer, Peter, (visible in the mirror) came to do a photo shoot of the studio and the dancers before and during classes for a coffee table book on One Day USA. A different photo from Dance Central did make it into the book. It was not taken during this partnering class.

Leanne is sitting right behind me in this photo. In this photo, she is fourteen years of age.

Leanne and her lovely family are spending a few days of their vacation in the USA visiting Miss Cecily, Raf, and me. We have had such a happy time with them. Leanne is like a daughter to Miss Cecily and me.

I will be posting photos of their family visit...:) We have had such a happy time during their visit.

I had nothing in mind for a photo this week and I was reminded of seinfeld and then I had this weird idea. I hope all you seinfeld fans like!!!

Heavy abstraction of modern architecture in Cologne, Germany. The art of reduction.

Well I reposted this shot for a number of reasons ...

.... first ... I had the pleasure of winning first place in the "Streetscapes" category in the recent Capture Oakville 2009 competition with this image ...

... secondly ... I have been very busy framing a collection of shots from my Night Moves series which will be exhibited at the Williams Coffee Pub at Trafalgar & Dundas here in Oakville, this image makes up one of my approximately 20 framed shots that will be on display at Williams ...

... thirdly ... I have just finished my first publicly available book through Blurb, entitled "Night Moves Volume I" which highlights the images on display during this upcoming exhibit. The link to the book ... www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/963512

Wish me luck folks ! Sorry I haven't been commenting on your work as I have been busy preparing for the exhibit.

"i will never forget you" by nickolas murray.

The title is Chronicle of the 20th Century. It was created by a German journalist and published in the 1980s. It was licensed around the world, and though published in multiple countries, the content is from the perspective of each country's news sources.

The US Edition was named "1987 Book of the Year" . Thus, its copyright was 1987. The publisher claims the book was gargantuan and colossal!

My husband bought it at an estate sale. We are proud to have it as we enjoy its month by month replay of history in the 20th Century! BTW, we were born midway through this century! And that's good history!!!

They can be helpful and humorous, mischievous and daring, but most of the time they’re just enjoying every moment and living their lives to the fullest.
