Coffee grinder and cinnamon. This is the alter-ego to the previous (and first) still life I posted the other day. When I lived in the Netherlands for a few years, I became a little obsessed with koffiemolen and managed to get my hands on eight of them, all different but equally beautiful. This one I think is rather old and the glass receptacle to catch the ground coffee is a little cracked, but I still love it.

SSC - Tea or Coffee
This was a tough one and I was at a loss what to do, finally, I came up with the idea of visually showing the end journey of the coffee bean.
Making a traditional Italian espresso is quite a rewarding process...nothing smells or tastes better than a freshly brewed cup of coffee!

Lots of warm rich tones here — perfect for a cold winter's evening — you can almost smell the coffee...

Well, not officially spring for another week but it's warm and sunny here, in the UK, and I’m certainly not complaining! Trying for a strong 'directional light' shot with the room darkened down and only the light from the window illuminating the scene. The lamp isn't contributing much light, but there is a tiny amount of back-fill from a mirror on camera-right.

I noticed morning light slanting across the kitchen counter and realized that it was highlighting my shrine to caffeine.
Here's our French press, the bean grinder and behind is the K-cup brewer for when we're in a hurry.
Can't get the ball rolling without our caffeine!
I generally have 900 ml of coffee each morning via French press.
At night I set up the K-cup brewer for Kim so all she has to do is press 'play' as she gets ready to leave for the hospital.
When I haul my lazy heinie out of the sack, I eventually wander into the kitchen and start heating water and grinding beans.

Being retired is marvelous...
:-)
Looks like a bit of a mom theme going here. This is her beloved coffee grinder. Little worse for the wear in it's 40+ (or more?) years. Takes about 5-minutes of hand grinding to process enough beans to create a single pot of French Press. We've always laughed about it (my wife and I typically killed the first pot w/in minutes) but she refuses any other grinder, nor pot style - much to Dad's vexation. Alas, it's mom's coffee grinder ;)
Winter's hit, with full force here in the UK and, gosh, it feels cold out there! Bringing some much needed winter cheer with homemade chocolate mincemeat muffins and some nice hot coffee!
The popularity of the last shot took me a little by surprise. Obviously helped along by being explored (I still don't have a clue how that works even after ten years here), but its a feature that does help me to discover new and interesting photographers, on an almost daily basis.
Another random shot thru glass image taken during a walk around London at night.

A little retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life — somewhere to relax and put your feet up with a good book, a fresh pot of coffee and some fruit cake. A few wild flowers add to the tranquility (blue Viper's Bugloss and pink valerian).
Photo taken for MacroMonday's weekly theme. This week's theme is "Floating"
The coffee beans ARE floating.
Downward.
So I stopped them with a strobe.
Grind your own daily. Taste the magic.
"Breakfast is always the best time for something juicy, sweet and fresh - it just feels like the right way to open the day. There's no right way, though, when it comes to choosing the fruit." - Yotam Ottolenghi
Winter's fast approaching and the evenings are getting darker — perfect for a warming, candlelit shot. I love the interplay between candlelight and a darker scene — the darker the ambient light the stronger the effect of the candle's illumination on the scene.

Yes, I will ask you how you like your coffee. Yes I will make it for you. Yes I will just make it the way I want to anyway so IF you wanted 3 tablespoons of sugar and some Half and Half in a Big Ass cup the size of half the pot then we're good to go. Otherwise, leave a tip and shut up.

the actual image you are looking at is approximately 1/4 long in real life. It's on a tiny little medallion I found at the bottom of an old coffee grinder
PS. I would like to think my friend Keith for helping me spell the last word in the title correctly. :)
