I wonder what John Cabot would have thought of this catch. I suspect he would have been mildly disappointed.
This week we managed two totally different adventure . East and west coast of Scotland on the same latitude . Skateraw and Largs to be precise .
The east coast proved to be the most productive , pollock and cod averaging 4lb . kayaking in the horizon require a level of experience , requires stamina , strength and knowledge of sea and wind condition , tides and swell . Team kayaking seems to be the safest approach .
The second trip was certainly more relaxing with perfect calm weather condition . We paddled around 6 miles in both trips . The clyde estuary , the plough field is in total decline however the fish variety is abundant , all small fish that is !
Scotland fishing diversity is immense and we are never too sure what we are going to catch next . Kayak fishing is booming generating great income for the fishing tackle trade . Luckily we still have so much to learn and experience the unknown . Enjoy the photos .Till then , tight lines all .

Chick, just hours after hatching, in the hand-rearing room on Codfish Island / Whenua Hou, New Zealand. "Tōmua" means "early" in Te Reo Māori; and he was named this as he was only the second kākāpō ever known to have hatched in January.
This photo became somewhat symbolic of the 2019 kākāpō breeding season for me. In it, he appears exhausted and gasping for air having just struggled out of his egg in an incubator. Although this particular individual was unaffected by it, the respiratory disease aspergillosis caused several deaths, and the season to be prolonged and exhaustive, physically and mentally for all of the people involved in kākāpō recovery.
Here's one from my Cycolpsia series - this time a rendition of the proposed McDonnell-Douglas V-9 CODFISH - 'Proof of Concept' COD vehicle from the early 1980's.
Back then, McDonnell-Douglas was taking on development of the UK's VTOL Harrier for their own AV-8 program and in parallel with the main thrust of the re-design work, various 'bi-product' options were looked at - one being a replacement for, even then, the ageing COD (Carrier On-board Delivery) Grumman C-2 Greyhounds which serviced the US Navy's carrier fleet.
MD's Future Concept Manager, Lila Froop, was behind the idea that took the basis of their AV-8A's Harrier's re-engineered wings and Pegasus engine - scaled them up and matched them to the C-9 Airframe - the military version of their highly successful DC-9 Airliner design.
The result gave rise to a V/STOL machine as capable as the Turbo-prop driven Greyhound but with the ability to operate without the need for a catapult or arrestor gear and even the ability to land and take-off from other vessels.
In the end the C-2 Greyhound soldiered on for another 30 years and is still current now - but with history almost repeating itself, The Navy has recently decided on a COD version of Boeing's CV-22
'Tilt-Rotor' Osprey which will eventually replace Grumman's 1960's workhorse.
Like many of these 'Drawing Board' dreams, Unfortunately - the idea was simply shelved as being way too costly to implement even
though support for the idea was then gaining ground amongst the Naval community.
Back then, I modeled this from my spares box using the very idea the concept was based on - Harrier wings etc and parts of the DC-9.
Along with various artists impressions that came about at the time I gave it a spurious set of US Navy markings for a submission to the local model club's monthly display.

A delicious simple vegetarian dinner of sautéed cauliflower, cherry tomatoes, onions, scallions, and garlic cloves. Mushrooms and couch-cous were fried separately. Parsley was sprinkled on at the end. Oh, there was a side dish of green salad.
Accompanying the plate was seltzer water with ice in a crystal glass...
The lighting for this still-life was just a soft nightlight across the room...
