This was the last image my new digital converter box displayed, before never displaying anything again. I left it on overnight, tuned to PBS, and when I awoke, the output was this. When I tried to restart it, I got the same image. When I unplugged it and plugged it back in, it was toast and never displayed an image again. My Digital Television converter locked up permanently.
Then it dumps the processor registers to the display,
and this is what I see - half a blue screen of death. It must be Microsoft.

The original was processed from a 1.4 gb avi file made from a couple of clips from a Fujifilm F30 camera, taken in low light. It was converted to mpeg4 using the h264 codec by the free application Super© video converter, which I got here: www.erightsoft.net/S6Kg1.html (They warn you not to download it from another site because it might be infected with malware.) I've processed mpeg4 with the h264 codec in QuickTime Pro and it has taken an extremely long time to process. This converter is extremely fast. I am happy to see that Flickr will show mpeg4 videos. I have no idea why this unpleasant opening image is showing. It was not on the original video!

How else to start the New Year other than visiting a heritage railway for a steam gala?
Between the 28th and 30th of January 2022, the Great Central Railway ran their 'Winter Steam Gala', which was host to two visiting locomotives; these were Ex-Southern/BR unrebuilt Battle of Britain no. '34072, 257 Squadron', and ex-BR Standard 4 Tank no. '80080'. A selection of the railway's home steam fleet was in operation on the day, as well as a diesel railcar providing shuttles between Loughborough and Rothley. The railway ran a busy timetable full of services and freight trains, so there was plenty to see and travel behind on the day. This video covers the Saturday (29th of January) of the event.
Due to this video's length, it has been broken down into ‘Chapters’ where certain parts of the video have been labelled correspondingly. LS = Lineside; all shots taken from stations and vantage points. WS = Windowside; all shots taken from the droplights of passenger trains – the locomotive/s hauling it will be added too. You can view these chapters in the video playback bar or in the description, where they’ll be listed with the timecode.
I have also decided to film galas such as these with the cameras 'Intelligent Auto' mode from now on. With all the movement I do during the day, it saves having to change the settings all the time.
Other than that, it was a great day out and an equally great kickstart to the year ahead. Thanks to all those who organised the gala and made it happen.

Back into the park using the HEVC codec. Much happier with this output than the first video as the light was fading at this point. Keeping three minute videos to below 200MB seems to be working OK.
The WD TV plays back all kinds of video codec, including .mkv and .wmv9. It even reads media off all kinds of disk formats, including FAT32, NTFS, and HSF+!!

Here we see a juvenile Eurasian Magpie(Pica pica), of the Corvidae family. There is still blue colouration to the right eye and beak which vanish as it matures. Eurasian black and white Magpies are considered amongst the most intelligent animals in the world, capable in tests of recognising human faces, themselves in a mirror or hub cap, and of solving a variety of tests.
