342/365 - Our Daily Challenge - "Blue":

Well, as my blue eyed Hannah was not here today, I had to shoot a still life. lol. My aunt used to work in an antique store and bought a lot of unique items there. She knows I love blue, so she gave me a lovely set of cobalt blue glassware...goblets, dessert plates and sherbet cups. I love how they catch the light.

After moving to this new house and organizing my things, I discovered I still had a bit of this cobalt blue and a pair of pockets!

This dress will be available on Jan. 13th, 8pm (Lisbon time)!

My color, cobalt blue, seen as an image of metal fencing that is adjusted with contrast and manipulated with the "amazing circle" technique. For those interested, the original photo used is similar to the one uploaded a week ago of this coil of fence. There are several more of these macro shots that I am still working with now. Every so often I get an urge to just have some play time in Photoshop and tonight's experiment was fun.

A fun little table scrap, thought I'd give a bit of editing a go.

Aside from Photography, my other passion is keeping fish, specifically freshwater tropicals.

I have a small 400 litre tank that is home to a bunch of different things but my pride and joy are my Discus. These guys are around 12cm long and will grow to about 20cm, depending on conditions.

On this cobalt crisp November afternoon, melted-margarine-warmth pours through our picture windows where BNSF’s double main runs footsteps away. I watch as “Good Things” brought to life at Erie notoriously grumble and gurgle carbon-black-hot exhaust accelerating stacks west. “Sweetheart, gonna go chase that train.” ATCS shows the mostly J.B. Hunt conexes going to the Sound via the Columbia River Sub. In no time, dressed warm, my gear gripped and flailing, I’m out the door. But the sun, hurrying to the horizon, is leaving with her fading diurnal light. But I’m able to head off the stack without knocking down any speed limit signs. Fortunately, 27 miles west, the lengthy stack train is being sent into the hole for an opposing empty gas can at hamlet Edwall. Two trains! Sweet! Shadows are filling fast the sun’s increasing vacuum. Time is of the essence as I intercept the dropping-down from Bluestem to Edwall key train. Gotta race back east towards Edwall for some glint. Oil cans captured as the hogger reduces speed in advance of Edwall. Back in the rig. West. Minutes later, I’m set up alongside the long fill west of Canby for the Hunt stack that’s already lined out of Edwall siding. Cans captured at speed with just enough residual light to almost stop the train in its tracks. I stow my gear and hightail it home satisfied with what I've recorded. At Edwall I ease over the main and as any rail enthusiast worth his salt would, I check the signals. OFS! Another eastbound is pending. Heading west again, I again intercept a dropping-down double stack from end of double track Bluestem. A three-point turn and my Nitro takes off east. One more capture: maybe. Kick the ISO from 100 up to 250 to milk twilight. Frame and, “Yes!” The track-speeding stack slings super-elevated around the curve at Canby as a local slows to stare me down with disbelieving wave as he passes. A film of refracted sunlight oranges the horizon below a blued-steel firmament as cold-of-night creeps in. Time to go. For real. Gear re-stowed I’m off, back to my warm city-center home where my Love waiting, content I gave a good chase. (© 19Nov18)
