Taken in the Kallahti nature reserve in Helsinki on the Gulf of Finland coast in January. Now it looks like this is the iciest coastal landscape here this winter. Although the forecast promises a little frost for the last few days of the week, when the situation may be a little better. Let's hope the camera will have work to do then (A7R6995-1e).

I looked down at the stream and found these beautiful patterns spread across the ice. Hard to capture in a photo, but I tried.

Having some fun in the snow with the 14mm Sony lens.

...and still accumulating

The temperature has remained mostly below 0C for the last 3 days. It's good in that it has firmed up the muddy ground and has coated the trees and bushes with a thin layer of ice

With their Winter coating, Sanderlings and Dunlins are very similar and hard to tell apart. Only just recently I was taught a very easy way to identifying them: look at the toes! Three toes, Sanderling, Four toes, Dunlin! Easy peasy :) Cheers everyone.

Low December sun on a rare day when snow covers the shoreline.

Beautiful but deadly, ours was one of the 90,000 homes in southern Ontario losing power, during a massive ice storm in the early hours of Good Friday. Some areas received over an inch of ice build up.

It's all about being in the right place at the right time and I was glad to choose this trail up Plateau Mountain in the Catskills on a perfect winter day.

Peebles Island was Capital Region Photography's 10th official photowalk! We were treated to a beautiful sunset after nearly 12 consecutive hours of snowfall earlier in the day.
