5# Tooling board used for vacuum form bucks. I had to cut these in a couple sliced sections as the profile was a bit thicker than my machine could cut normally.
When program for CNC is not manually written but computer-generated, you can see quite exotic lay, because cutter travels along optimal way that is not always straight.
Self-portrait sitting at the granite block tool setting table in Preset at Beloit Corp in 1981 or 82. Looking over the prints and paperwork associated with setting up a job for the horizontal CNC machining machining centers. (CNCs were located outside my "cage" and behind me in this photo.)
At the time this photo was taken, presetting was a new job title for me. The Sony digital height gage to the left was a piece of new technology equipment then.
Timed release exposure, taken with my old Rollei miniature 35mm and available light. Scanned from a 5 x 7 print I made for my wife. The camera was sitting on the wooden box we used to hold the preset tooling. (In later years the boxes were metal with plastic tool "pots.") Cameras in the shop were always a big "no-no" due to proprietary tooling, tooling setups and methods.
This is my CNC router table. I built it out of mdf as a cheap prototyping material. I will eventually convert it to a metal frame but for now it does just fine.

So after reading this (http://www.felesmagus.com/pages/lasers-howto.html) I decided I wanted to try it. From Fry's I picked up a $40 sony dvd burner, tore it apart (without it having ever met any of my computers, even!) and extracted the red laser diode. After some fiddling (which you can see some pictures of elsewhere here) i was able to mount it on my cnc machine and produce this image.
