The end of the base cover is slightly narrower than three whole bricks so is done in two halves.
The final result. Once it's dried the lumpy bits can be sanded down.

Close up to the CMS! It has been separated for maintenance. An awful lot of power is needed to supply the detector and it’s computers. A fair few cable ties as well! Theoretically it should take 2 days to re-engage to the halves but in reality it is nearer 2 weeks. The tube you can see running through the middle is indeed the accelerator tube in which the particles travel. There are usually 2 separate tubes (one for each direction) but they merge into one for the detectors so collisions can take place. Each of the colour coded sections has a different purpose.
