If it wasn't for a message from Lisa www.flickr.com/photos/thevixen/ I would have missed this sky. Too busy looking at a computer screen to look out my window!
I grabbed my camera and thought I might just make it out to the little church to catch some sky colour. It was that really eerie light that just soaks up everything around it.
There were so many shades that I really thought the sky looked painted on. So this is Lisa's painted sky.
If only.
Early morning at the marina, New Haven at Phillip Island. Since I am in lockdown, I am going to have to try to scavenge 30 or so images from my trip away so be prepared for alot of beach images! (My garden in looking pretty good at the moment too so that might feature!).
The Sherpa would like to take credit for this image as I was photographing in a different location and after he went wandering, he came back and said I should walk around where he was to see the single boats with the mist hanging low in the background.
He was right. It was a good spot. I waited till the some came up and positioned it behind the mast. I took a few with it to the right of the boat as well.
And of course waited for the birds.
Keep safe and connected everyone.
The last day of May brought with it some wild weather to most of Australia's southeast. This was the sight that welcomed me as I opened the front door first thing this morning! A chilly 5 degrees and a mix of rain and hail. The bright sun really did contrast with the threatening clouds approaching from the southwest. If you zoom in, you can just make out the first big raindrops glistening in the sun.
Thankfully, that is my kinda day - I love it. After the first hail stone landed in my coffee, I did dash back inside though!

Ocean nere the blue hour, a good place , the ocean is a fragile place water is important for all life on this planet , without it there is no life.... lets take care of it...we only have one planet right? ....One With Nature
Thanks for visiting my photos!
I decided to photograph a dead thistle head lying in the sand near the waters edge. I crouched down to photograph it, concentrating on taking the image when the incoming tide knocked me backwards onto my behind while the water surged around me. First instinct-save the camera. Second-check no-one saw the event.
I was soaking wet which of course the Sherpa thought was hilarious. Later I asked him to model for me in the reflecting sand (no other more interesting models available for me :-) when the tide came rushing in. He ended up getting soaked and it was my turn to laugh.
It was a warm, lovely evening. Walking back to the car, we were both wet but full of spent laughter. A perfect end to beach play.
I feel a little guilty going out to photograph the unusual sunsets (and sunrises) since those folks in the western US are facing such hardships from the wildfires, but I did last evening. Just before packing up and heading home I made a few more quick shots including this one. I didn't even realize the deer was in the frame until looking them over on the computer screen later. Perhaps a fitting title for this would be "Dumb Luck."
The concept is over two thousand years old and is referenced in the New Testament as established wisdom that prevailed among the Jews of the Second Temple Period by Jesus in Matthew 16:2-3. If the morning skies are of an orange red glow it signifies a high pressure air mass with stable air trapping particles like dust which scatters the suns blue light. This high pressure is moving towards the east and a low pressure system moves in from the west.
Another variation is....Red sky at night, sailors' delight. Red sky at morning, sailors' warning.
"Hey, are you feeling something new
Just watch the rain, it helps in all you do
The breeze, it blows, it blows everything
And I, I want the world to pass
And I, I want the sun to shine
You can believe in everything
You can believe it all " Slow Dive-Catch the Breeze (thanks Ben).
I wasn't expecting any colour when I ventured down to Cape Woolamai. It was a rainy, breezy day and the clouds hung in a grey bland sky. It kept everyone off the beach except for one lone fisherman.
As the sun set, the grey turned into shimmers of pink and orange and got richer and more beautiful as the evening went on.
Haven't quite left yet!
"There's a lion in the road, there's a demon escaped,
There's a million dreams gone, there's a landscape being raped,
As her beauty fades and I watch her undrape,
I won't, but then again, maybe I might.
Oh, if I could just find you tonight"
Where are you tonight? (Journey Through Dark Heat) by Bob Dylan Street Legal 1978

One of my very favourite Bob Dylan songs. Looking into the eye of the storm. Heat and passion collide, a longing for peace which never comes.
Our fourth lock-down in Victoria begins today. Hopefully the 7 days will be the "circuit breaker" we are hoping for and this doesn't get any further out of control. Feels like we have been here before!
Sunset at St Kilda which was on our agenda for an outing tomorrow. This was taken before the Bob Dylan 80th birthday tribute show last Friday. We parked the car some distance and I could see the sun was setting. I was doing the walk-run thing, carrying the tripod to try to make it before the sun disappeared completely. This was the position it was in when I finally made it to the pier.
Take Care all my Victorian friends and those across the seas that are still battling this virus as well as everything else life throws at us.
A view across Upper Loch Torridon from the road to Lower Diabaig.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I think its Beinn Damh (or Ben Damph) is a Scottish mountain situated in the wild mountainous area between Upper Loch Torridon and Glen Carron, 25 kilometres north northeast of Kyle of Lochalsh. Beinn Damh is classed as a Corbett reaching a height of 903 metres (2,962 feet) failing to qualify as a Munro by eleven metres, despite this it is a fine mountain with a four-kilometre-long undulating summit ridge with three tops, it has steep slopes and crags with its eastern face being especially dramatic with huge buttresses and cliffs. The mountain has the conspicuous “Stirrup Mark” just to the south west of the summit, this is a semi circular area of white quartzite surrounded by grey rock which stands out when the mountain is viewed from the south west. The mountain's translated name of “Hill of the Stag” is apt because it stands in the middle of the Ben Damh deer estate.
Loch Torridon (Scottish Gaelic: Loch Thoirbheartan) is a sea loch on the west coast of Scotland in the Northwest Highlands. The loch was created by glacial processes and is in total around 15 miles (25 km) long. It has two sections: Upper Loch Torridon to landward, east of Rubha na h-Airde Ghlaise, at which point it joins Loch Sheildaig; and the main western section of Loch Torridon proper. Loch a' Chracaich and Loch Beag are small inlets on the southern shores of the outer Loch, which joins the Inner Sound between the headlands of Rubha na Fearna to the south and Red Point to the north.
The name Thoirbhearta has a similar root to Tarbert and indicates a place where boats were dragged overland.

I have photographed this old barn several times. I think it catches my eye because of the iconic rural architecture and the fact that it seems to sit al by itself out in the middle of nowhere. I suspect at one time several other farm buildings surrounded it.
This is from winter 2014 in the southern part of Oregon. Hadn't meant to post this tonight, but accidentally uploaded in Public, so gonna go with it. At home until Monday, so will try to catch up while home.
Last night we had an amazing sunset that filled the sky with glorious colour in all directions!
Happy Nice wonderful Clouds Tuesday!
northwest creek, fairfield harbour, north Carolina. Could be smoke from a 'controlled burn' at a nearby national forest.
If you go back through my posts you will find several images of this old barn. It's kind of my go to subject if I see a pretty sunset coming up. It's close to my home and sits just to the west of the road.
I am back from my lovely week away in Northern Victoria.
This was taken on my first evening away. A quick dash out to try to find somewhere to photograph sunset when I noticed the sky change colour. Saw this lovely farm gate, open, so figured it was an invitation to photograph the fast disappearing sunset!
Hope everyone is doing fine and I will try to catch up with you all soon!
Keeping with the theme ofweather songs for my Milford Sound images (haven't quite finished posting them yet) this is Stormy weather by Lena Horne as suggested by James.
"When he went away, the blues walked in and met me
If he stays away, old rocking chair will get me
All I do is pray the Lord above will let me
Walk in the sun once more"
I thought this appropriate for the brooding blue sky. There was a ferocious storm with thunder and lightening just before this was taken.
Everyone must know how terrified I am of storms (Terrified and mesmerised in equal measure).
When the worst of the storm was over, we walked along he track around part of the lake, hoping we weren't going to get caught in another bout of lightening. You couldn't wipe the smile from our faces though.
It was nothing short of exhilarating.
Following on from last Tuesday's post, this was the scene just three minutes on, and the red colour above had disappeared. Then this long rift appeared and it momentarily looked like a gateway to hell, and I am sure I can see a horned Lucifer just off centre taking a quick look around. This lasted just a handful of seconds before moving on to yet another totally different phase of the sunrise. More to come next week.
Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!
Sunset taken from half way along the Port Germein jetty looking across the wonderful tidal sandflats and their amazing textures and patterns.
The sun climbing slowly through the morning cloud and bringing some heat to the day.
Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!
Another view of the barn in the image about 7 posts back. Different point of view and the camera pointed more directly into the sunset. This is a three shot HDR image to capture a wider range of brightness.
I had been out for a prairie walk a few days ago when I saw this sky approaching. I decided it was time to get home. I couldn't resist this image on the way. It turned out this was a storm in looks only without a drop of badly needed rain. (But since then we have had several nice rains.)
