Early morning on the Pacific Crest Trail heading towards Three Fingered Jack. First clouds I've seen in a couple of weeks.
Most of the trees in this area were damaged by the B and B Complex Fire in 2003.
Same night, different approach to a beautiful opportunity.... trying to decide which captures the mood better?
Mont Blanc at back, seen from Brevent on the other side of Chamonix Valley. This is treacherous terrain. The same day as I shot this, a Swedish skier died in an avalanche. It started in the couloir just behind the bottom cliff face along the ridge in this pic...
It's other small lake, it's 5 km from my home. I very often in evenings simply so go by bicycle there for dynamic, active rest... :-)
It's been a stormy and windy day so I decided to take a photo of the clouds with my iPhone.
I'm Billy Pones.
Today has finally arrived (again).
You might ask yourself what's the big deal about it so let me tell you : well, today is the day I finally get to shared my first picture of Song Kol Lake after previously sharing around ten other pictures from the hike getting to it, which is ironic since this 3.000 meters high alpine lake, the second biggest in Kyrgyzstan, greatly praised for its beauty, is only safely accessible from June to September, which means that if you want to witness this landscape for yourself, you'd have to wait for its water to unfreeze.
I can also tell you that the lake is surrounded by snow capped mountains, but that would be for next time.
Song Kol lake is also a place where local herders come in the summer time which is why there is a couple of yurts in the frame and in my heart.
