While going thru archives I happened upon one October folder with 4 of our sulphurs - and I didn't get any sulphurs posted on 12 Days. I've also got a lot of snakes & lizards to post. Here's a start on the sulphurs with our biggest one - a female Cloudless. Purple gerardia & asters in the background are the last two Fall wildflowers to bloom every year @ the wetlands / North GA

These guys are very elusive and move rather quickly, not spending much time on any flower. I had to take this photo through the living room window so I wouldn't scare him away.

The butterfly garden at Falcon State Park, Falcon, Texas.

Maybe not the prettiest flower in the garden but this butterfly didn't mind as it just rested there for a few minutes. I actually had to do a double take when I looked at the flower to realize there was a butterfly on it.

I believe this is a Cloudless Sulphur but not 100% certain. If anyone happens to know, a positive ID would be most appreciated.

Other than Monarchs, these big sulphurs are usually are most common Fall butterflies. our North Georgia yard

MONARCH UPDATE: we released 5 today 10-17-20 - all big and healthy. One popped out of a chrysalis on the house yesterday in the wind that I had about given up on! One last chrysalis from these latest ones may be the caboose that wraps up the season.

btw I just ran by a nearby nursery to pick up some flowers and they were all telling me that Monarchs passing thru have been all over their pansies & violas. I saw some myself while there. I don't know where they've been all Summer, but it's been a strong October down South as Monarchs have been widespread & ongoing in good numbers. Fingers crossed as we await the first reports from Mexico!

Out from on the native Senna. I love these butterflies, although they are not very cooperative.

A sunny morning in the cloud forest looking across the valley from Balcón Tumpiki toward my next stop at Reserva Las Gralarias in the Mindo precinct of northwest Ecuador.

This view of what was pasture land less than two decades ago is an example of how quickly the forest there can restore itself if given the chance and a number of land owners in the region are doing just that through the generous support of nature foundations and ecotourism income.

This shot is intended both to show the incredible beauty of the cloud forest even without the colorful birds and blossoms, and also to serve as an intermission curtain on day two of my nine-day visit to the region as I change gears and return to a previous journey's treasures.
