CLOUDS

Clouds are made of droplets or frozen crystals in the atmosphere. The clouds are formed from water vapour which is a gas. This gas rises into the atmosphere. when the gas meets the cold in the atmosphere it turns back into water and so the droplets form the clouds. The small droplets stay in the atmosphere but the big drop as rain. Clouds can stretch from ground level to very high altitudes. Low clouds can be 2400 m high while high clouds can be 6500 m high in the atmosphere. But the tropopause can vary from as low as 8000 m over the poles up to as high as 18000 m over the equator.

Clouds are classified by the base height, Cirrus, Cirrocumulus and Cirrostratus clouds belong to the High clouds family, Altostratus and Altocumulus clouds to the Middle high clouds, the Low clouds family include the Stratus, Cumulus, Nimbostratus and Stratocumulus clouds.
