Another shot of the Sunset captured this evening enroute from Miami to Bogota. Somewhere over the Caribbean. This cloud really cooperated with being in the right place at the right time.

Mammatus are pouch-like cloud structures and a rare example of clouds in sinking air. As updrafts carry precipitation enriched air to the cloud top, upward momentum is lost and the air begins to spread out horizontally, becoming a part of the anvil cloud. Because of its high concentration of precipitation particles, the saturated air is heavier than the surrounding air and sinks back towards the earth.

This was the view from the DHL car park before I set off for home last night. I 'stopped down' the aperture to enhance the rays, it wasn't quite this dark!

Guess where this image was taken?
Anybody?
No?
Well, I’ll tell you then. This is from my trip to Cornwall late last year.
Alright, not really. It’s from Iceland. Um…Surprise!
This was a lovely little spot that we found; it was very isolated and was just a few minutes away from a similar spot that was just full of tourists so we were happy to find it and have it to ourselves. This seemed to be where all of the ducks* (not in this shot) went for a bit of relaxation as it was nice and quiet.
I hope everyone had a lovely weekend.
*If that’s what they were. Not too sure. I know they were duck like, in that I know they were birds and was pretty sure that they were definitely not penguins.

This was taken last fall on a trip out to Jenny Jump State Observatory in NJ. It's incredible that you can get good star viewing just a little over an hour from NYC. This shot was taken as I wait for the clouds to move past our viewing made for a nice effect.
Another photo of British Airways flight 288 departing against a gorgeous sunset. Kinda hard to see it against the clouds but I like how the jetwash distorts the light.

Yesterday we had a typhoon spinning through the Taiwan strait and bringing heavy rain to the south-western areas and causing great damages and we also had a "typhoon holiday," which means we didn't have to go to work or school. Before the evening, when typhoon Talim was spiraling by, there was a very short break with the crimson clouds rushing north-ward and during that moment, it didn't rain but blew strong winds.
The Great Sugar Loaf is composed of Cambrian quartzite, in contrast to the rounded mountains to the west, which are made of Devonian granite. Popularly mistaken for a volcano, it is in fact an erosion-resistant metamorphosed sedimentary deposit from the deep sea.

A winter retreat to Cancun Mexico to escape another cold Canadian winter. My favourite captures from seven days in paradise.
This photo is part of my home project 'Clouds above Amsterdam', in which I capture the skyline of Amsterdam during beautiful and colorful sunsets. Visit the album for more photos.
