To help the elderly in Singapore age in place, the SMU-TCS iCity Lab has been working on projects to integrate technology with end-to-end care provisioning. The lab is a joint initiative between SMU and Tata Consultancy Services. I’m uploading a spread of photos showing versions of a previously uploaded photo for anyone interested in Photoshop’s new generative AI feature.
Photoshop’s new generative AI feature, available in a Beta Version, uses cloud-based artificial intelligence to transform photos. It can add just about anything produced from Adobe stock images, but, for me, it promises to simplify and speed up processing removal of distracting elements.
This spread of photos includes, at left, the original version of a photo of Rockin’ Dopsie Jr. doing a split during his performance at Festival International de Lafayette April 29, 2023. The middle photo is my attempt that took about 20 minutes to use various Photoshop tools to remove the mike stand covering his face. At right is a reprocessed version of the photo using generative AI. You’ll notice that, in addition to removing the mike stand, it also changed the positioning of Rockin’ Dopsie’s hand. To get this result, I selected sections of the pole and processed each separately with generative AI. (I first attempted to select the entire pole, but generative AI went way overboard and replaced Rockin’ Dopsie’s head with that of a different musician—generative AI always gives you a choice of three versions, but, in this attempt, all of them were weird.)
I’m not going to use this new feature to alter the reality of what I’m photographing. I’m not sure that I would even use the final processed version in which Dopsie’s hand is repositioned.

This area is one of the wettest in Australia it records over 3000mm average annual rainfall. Cloud provides an additional 40% moisture to the cool misty moss clad montane rainforest growing above 800m altitude.
Climate change may raise the cloud base above the mountain tops or reduce the number of cloudy days with serious impacts on the plants and animals that live in this unique environment. Some species can be found nowhere else on earth including the Springbrook Leatherwood Eucryphia jinksii, Lamington Peach Myrtle uromyrtus lamingtonensis and Masked Mountain Frog Philoria loveridgei.

A small but magnificent image of the Virgin Mary in the avocation of the Immaculate Conception. The Virgin wears a loose fitting tunic that falls to her feet in gentle overlapping folds. Over her tunic, the Virgin wears a mantle that is draped loosely in the back; crosses the front from the right and is tucked under her arm. The eponymous tuck or suk-suk usually found in the back of similar type Virgins is missing.
The Virgin's face is beautifully rendered. The hair is carved in the archaic manner of individual strands. Her arms are folded and held somewhat to the left. Her expression serene.
She stands on cumulo-nimbus clouds resting on the back of a winged demon. The demon exhibits the facial features of a bear (?) with clawed feet. Maybe a dragon? In the back of the image, one can see thescaled and ridged tail of the beast winding around the cloud base. The whole stands on an integral, plinth base.

I very rarely get out into the Peak District in these conditions so made a special effort yesterday. The aim was to spend some time amongst the trees and try to find some simpler compositions - with the mist helping to clear the background of clutter.
The cloud base was actually quite high up, so only once I got out of the top of Padley Gorge was it possible to do this - but once there I like to think I made the most of it. This set of photos consists of pretty much every single photo I took up there (I've only left 3 out, for now) - so I am more than happy with my success rate (I would worry that I'm becoming one of those photographers who looks calm and collected... a bit pretentious, looking down on those who don't know the one and only composition they want weeks beforehand... but I'm sure the next sunrise will fix that - leaving me running around like a headless chicken again).

Rain (and hail) curtains from last week's Tuesday chase. You can see how the outflow wind is blowing by observing how the curtains bend as the rain falls from the base of the storm to the ground. These curtains seem close, but they're actually several miles away; the cloud base is probably 4,000 feet high.
