Up close with an Australian icon. The Redback Spider (Latrodectus hasselti), feared by early settlers, was historically responsible for 12 deaths . An antivenom has been available since 1956, and there have been no deaths directly due to redback bites since its introduction. The female spider, as seen in this shot, is much larger then its male counterpart and has the distinctive red stripe on its abdomen. The female 'digests' the male during a successful mating process, which seems to be unique to Latrodectus hasselti. Females reach around 1 cm in size while males are 3-4 mm when mature. Shot was taken with a 100mm macro lens. NSW, Australia

Love Life, Love Photography

When I was at Jackson Bottom last weekend, this California Groundsquirrel was on a path ahead of me. it was reluctant to leave the path, so I just settled lower and took shots.

Great question for many of us when it comes to the final crop

Yes I did get the entire Owl in frame (inc. wings)

& Yes he was extremely close

But also 'yes' we've uploaded countless 'fly-by' Short Eared Owl shots recently

So an unconventionally close crop to create something

different

Good idea?

Bad idea?

There's no right answer

In the end it was just 'my idea'

"Why do birds suddenly appear

Every time you are near?

Just like me, they long to be

Close to you"

This is not exactly what this Golden-headed Cisticola was singing, but close... (-;

(Cisticola exilis)

Stranded in the spooky town

Stop lights are swaying and the phone lines are down

The floor is crackling cold

She took my heart, I think she took my soul

With the moon I run

Far from the carnage of the fiery sun

Driven by the strangle of vein

Showing no mercy, I'd do it again

Open up your eyes

You keep on crying

Baby I'll bleed you dry

Skies are blinking at me

I see a storm bubbling up from the sea

And it's coming closer

And it's coming closer

Your shimmy shook my boat

Leaving me stranded all in love on my own

Do you think of me?

Where am I now

Baby where do I sleep?

It feels so good but I am old

2000 years of chasing taking its toll

And it's coming closer

And it's coming closer

Image taken in Charnwood, Leicestershire. Very close encounter with one of the local Buzzards on my daily walk, still haven't found where they are nesting but must have passed close today.

At the close of the day in Nubra valley, Ladakh Himalayas, India.

Wide-open, indoors, light from the window. As close as I can go with this lens.

Sometimes my photos require “Getting Close” to the subject physically. Lying on top of pile of leaves or wading in shallow waters. Remaining always safe there’s not much I haven’t tried yet to “Get That Shot, lol” From the top of the Empire State Building in NYC to a Native American Celebration in New Mexico and many cool places in between. Passion drives us to get our next fun capture. Thanks for viewing my work. Stay safe, mask up and go get your next great capture. 🙏

Why do stars fall down from the sky

Every time you walk by?

Just like me, they long to be

Close to you

On the day that you were born the angels got together

And decided to create a dream come true

So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair

Of golden starlight in your eyes of blue

That is why all the girls in town

Got to clear my mind, mind, mind

Out of this mundane, god-forsaken 9-5, wasting my time"

The waters of the Rambla de Tobarra, close to the town of Agramón (Albacete), before flowing into the Mundo river flow through two wide branches.

In one of them its margins are stony and it is there where we usually photograph some specimen of Onychogomphus forcipatus (like the male in the image).

They perched on the stones very close to the water.

The tidal causeway to St Michael's Mount in Marazion, Cornwall

Some of the many smaller islands in the St Lawrence Seaway near Alexandria, New York. This was taken in 2017 while on "Uncle Sam Boat Tours". There are many boats and companies providing a tour of the islands all summer.

The 1000 Islands (pronounced “Thousand Islands,” not “One Thousand Islands”) is a sightseer’s paradise and a popular destination for those looking for an authentic outdoor vacation. Located along the peaceful border between northern New York State (USA) and southeastern Ontario (Canada), the 1000 Islands is a region of endless shorelines, rich history and unique culture.

Vacationers have been coming to the 1000 Islands (there are actually 1,864 of them) for more than 150 years to enjoy its breathtaking beauty. More than 50 miles of waters that were once patrolled by pirates (yes … pirates!) and Prohibition bootleggers are now cruised by cottagers who enjoy serene bays and vacationers who tour aboard guided trips and hear the astonishing stories behind the islands.

To be considered an island, it has to stay above water 365 days a year and support a living tree. Many are open to the public and are home to parks, campgrounds and cottage rentals. Wellesley Island (United States) is connected to the U.S. and Canadian mainland by the Thousand Islands International Bridge. Wolfe, Howe and Simcoe islands (Canada) are reachable by ferries. Thousand Islands Islands National Park (Canada) is a group of 21 islands along the 1000 Islands Parkway, Ontario, that are open to the public.

Small, but warm and welcoming Icelandic village, hidden in mountains. I felt a sense of community. I could only start imagining how beautiful Christmas must be in here .... :)
