F4u, you could almost reach up and touch it. Or is that close air support, referred to as the bent winged devil or whisltling death by enemies, guess it was good to have panels out and be on the pilots team. Seen at the National Museum of the Marine Corps.
A baby Canada Goose snatched up by a Crow, dropped into heavy traffic at a roundabout and saved by a passing good person...
lately i've been having close encounters with moths and butterflies:
the other day at my favorite caffeine provider here in manhattan (ks - they call it the 'little' apple), i saw a butterfly on the wall adjacent to the drive-through window. i pointed this out to the girl who works there, and we admired the beautiful creature together. when the girl handed me my cappuccino, the butterfly flew over and alighted briefly on my coffee cup!
the day after that the polyphemus moth pictured on my hand got knocked off the plant she was clinging to by a pair of wild dogs ;) she later flew away to mate and have babies unharmed.
p.s. i read that the adult polyphemus' sole purpose is to mate and lay eggs (well that, and to fill us with wonder) they have no mouth parts so they don't feed.

09 July 2016 - This photo was originally taken and posted over two years ago, when I was just beginning to realise some of the possibilities of my medium. While I wouldn't do it the same today, I'm delighted to be able to look back and find that I can still really enjoy something from my early days.

Smiley joins the campaign to close the gap on indigenous health in Australia.
The figures paint a staggering reality:
Indigenous men and women die up to 17 years earlier than other Australians and Indigenous children are dying at more than double the rate of non-Indigenous children.
Commonwealth and State governments are failing their duty to care for the Australian indigenous.

A closer study of the bridge in Exbury Gardens, this time in colour. I loved the texture of the stone.
Jacob went close to his father Isaac, who touched him and said, this voice it’s the voice of Jacob, but the hands are the hands of Esau. He did not recognize him, for his hands were hairy like those of his brother Esau; so he blessed him [Genesis 27:22-23].
God had already told Rebekah that her older son Esau would serve her younger son Jacob. But when she heard that Isaac was going to bless Esau, she took matters into her own hands and devised a plan to trick Isaac, who was blind, into blessing Jacob instead. Shortly after blessing Jacob, Isaac realized the deception, but still recognized Jacob as heir to God’s promise to Abraham.
Although the blessing became Jacob’s, he paid a heavy price for the deception. Esau hated Jacob and wanted to kill him. Isaac and Rebekah’s relationship was damaged, and Rebekah apparently never saw her favourite son again. Fleeing for his life, Jacob eventually reached the city of Luz where God appeared to him in a dream. In it, God repeated to Jacob the promise he had made to Abraham and Isaac, adding his personal guarantee of blessing and protection. Jacob renamed the City Bethel, meaning House of God [Genesis 28:10-15].
Glenn Close looked stunning in a head-to-toe hot pink ensemble for her first appearance at the iconic Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday (2 May).
Never one to shy away from a bold sartorial decision, the 75-year-old actress stepped out in a bright fuchsia Valentino outfit, featuring floor length flare trousers and a matching blouse. Valentino's designer Pier Paolo Piccoli joined her on the red carpet.
She paired her outfit with a statement floral embroidered cape — a bold take on the "Gilded Glamour” theme for the event.

Close To Midnight
Close to midnight.

sorrow in your memory.

Oh, to be alone for 5 minutes.

That is why Trieste is beautiful.

The new Nikon AF-S 28/1.8G masters shots at closer focusing distances with ease - if you stop down a bit (here f5.6). Shot on a D800, developed from RAW in Ligtroom 4 with Adobe standard rpofile. Sharpening at 70/0.5/36/10.

These owls are in a very active neighborhood and were unconcerned by photographers and the nest area is roped off so you wouldn't get too close.
Don't do this often, just post a shot with nothing much more of an inspiration that a song track, but hell I've had this song rolling round head now for days, so sod it. Going back a few months ago now, but Kings of Leon decided they needed to come visit our little city down in the bottom end of the world and play a few tunes.
It was, quite frankly, a fucking banging gig. And I've been to some gigs...
They just got up, played songs, rocked the balls off everyone, belittled their MTV commitments and finished. No fancy fireworks or showmanship, no bullshit, no pretences, just the songs. It rocked.
However it's always this one song that really gets me and has been on loop for the last few nights while I edit my backlog of shots. Met some new friends at this gig, brought about some special photos, some special memories. Been thinking a lot of heavy stuff through with this album ringing in my ears, and honestly, gutterally aching to be playing the drums again listening to 'Closer.'
Stranded in this spooky town
Stoplight is swaying and the phone lines are down
Snow is crackling cold
She took my heart, I think she took my soul
With the moon I run
Far from the carnage of the fiery sun
Driven by the strangle of vein
Showing no mercy I'd do it again
Open up your eyes
You keep on crying
Baby I'll bleed you dry
Skies are blinking at me
I see a storm bubbling up from the sea
And it's coming closer
And it's coming closer
You shimmy-shook my boat
Leaving me stranded all in love on my own
Do you think of me
Where am I now
Baby where do I sleep
Feels so good but I'm old
2000 years of chasing taking its toll
And it's coming closer
And it's coming closer
And it's coming closer
And it's coming closer
This crab spider was found in plain sight on a white wall. All the better to contrast against for their photoshoot!
