As the sun sets we see things less and less clearly. And that's not so bad as it's time to relax and let the day fade away................

........................................................................................................

Au coucher du soleil, nous voyons les choses de moins en moins clairement. Et ce n'est pas si mal car il est temps de se détendre et de laisser la journée s'estomper ................

A couple of weeks ago, my wife and I went camping in Cunningham Gulch north of Silverton, CO, with some friends. The San Juans had just got their first dusting of snow on the mountain peaks and we were going to explore the Alpine Loop. It was fantastic weather, plenty of early fall colors with the bonus of snow tipped peaks. The overnight low the first night reached the low 20s, but the next day reached into the upper 60s. The one thing that would be the cherry on top to this trip was seeing a moose.

So, just as our day was coming to its conclusion, this guy appeared on the edge of a meadow near Howardsville, and he was kind enough to allow me a few snaps. but, he was pretty clear that I had come close enough.

……But don’t be frightened, it’s not an Alien it’s only an ‘Alan’. Me making a spectacle of myself for ‘Smile on Saturday’ and the theme this week is ‘Profile Portrait’. I can tick that box if you smiled. Well it’s the W/End, stay cosy & locked down to stay safe and to keep EVERYONE else safe too! A VERY BIG THANK YOU to ALL the key workers who are carrying on to benefit the rest of us - we applaud you all. Alan;-)👏👏👏👏👏

These stairs at MUDEC (the Museo Delle Culture) in Milan were pretty freaky. Slightly other worldly and the light at the top was amazing.

feels like I am just too close

That flower and hair belongs to beautiful Venus :) Thanks so much for the shoot today, I am still working on other takes.

(They Long to be) Close to You

Why do birds suddenly appear

Every time you are near?

Just like me, they long to be

Close to you

Why do stars fall down from the sky

Every time you walk by?

Just like me, they long to be

Close to you

On the day that you were born the angels got together

And decided to create a dream come true

So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair

Of golden starlight in your eyes of blue

That is why all the girls in town

(Girls in town)

Follow you

All around

Taken today during my latest visit to the Hunter Wetlands Centre, Shortland NSW with long time friend and fellow flickr tog Joe Micallef.

Bird activity was relatively quiet following the abundant rain and flooding along the East Coast of NSW.

Hope you like this one.

Thanks for any comment, views or favorites - always appreciated!!

The Roulettes doing an air show for the Royal Hobart Regatta. This shot shows three of the six aerobatic planes that did the display - i've got some amazing shots of them in perfect formation, but I like this one because of their close flyby of the church - gives it a sense of scale and danger.

If you walk down the Royal Mile and you'll see open doorways near the castle end of the street. In Edinburgh terms, these are known as "closes"; basically, very old, narrow, steep streets once replete with open sewers. Now home to bars, restaurants, and museums, they offer a true taste of historic Edinburgh. Advocate's Close is a particularly interesting one; positioned up high, it affords views of the Scott Monument and a good portion of Edinburgh. Halfway down, The Devil's Advocate is a moodily lit bar that serves up excellent cocktails in a historic setting.

Like most of the closes, Advocate's Close, which is thought to date back to the 1500s, is spooky and fascinating, and it's like stepping back in time. Most of these skinny streets have been widened or built over; the closes that remain are a precious fragment of local history. There are many more closes...as World's End Close, Fleshmarket Close etc
