This blossom is about 2.5cm in diameter, and the tele lens is a whopping 450mm (on my APS-C sensor). One of the advantages of this mirror-reflex lens is that you can get close to the object (down to 90cm). I had not expected this, but I am in fact using this lens mostly for close-ups. Contre-jour/reflector.
Normally I do not crop so tight and close up as I did in this photo.

In my garden taking pictures of little birds at my bird feeding place, this jackdaw with an attitude was so close that my 600mm prime lens could only take a close-up of this black bird species.
My new Nisi close up lens (screw on filter) arrived today and I have tried a few very quick test shots on two different cameras. It turns the original lenses into a fairly decent macro lens with close focussing ability of about 8 - 12 inches at full zoom.
Here it is at an equivalent of about 260mm and cropped a little to close in on the centre of an African daisy. I was surprised to see a tiny critter at the top of the flower centre.
Overall, I think the little screw on lens does a good job. It is certainly not as sharp as a true macro lens, but for a quick and easy macro, it is better than I hoped.
