Marshall Field's 100 year old clock at State and Randolph.

So here I am being exuberant. This was my Grandmother's clock, it was her mother's. It had been painted many times over the last 100 years (I hear it was bright green once) and nobody in my whole family wanted it but me. So I painted it in a way that would make me as happy to look at it as it does to hear it. It sounds kinda like it looks -- a little clangy and not perfect. But I love it. Trying to find a small plexi shelf for it now.

The last open day I attended in Derby was in September 1989 and I recall entering Derby Works here at the clock tower to find a Midland loco on display in the roundhouse behind.

Both roundhouse and clock tower survive, though sadly no longer in railway use and the site of Derby Works, like so many of our workshops, is now an industrial estate.

Clock at Cressington station. Opened in March 1873, this was on the CLC (Cheshire Lines Committee) main line to Manchester (and probably Southport) until April 1972, when, along with the Gateacre line, it was closed.

Since 1978, however, it has been part of the Merseyrail network and is the only station I know of (on the Southport line) to still have its stationmaster's house.
