When I picked up Josh from coaching the sunset was beautiful, this is one of the climbing frames in the park. Should have explored this a little more but could not open the gate to the playground, must have some sort of hex on it to prevent the over 50's from playing.

A couple of wonderful days with Daisy ... her favourite Playground is an exhausting place for 'Seniors' ..!!

Down to Cornwall today and with the sea mist rolling in thick and fast I took the opportunity for this shot. Processed quite bit to add more atmosphere.

In between classes there was always time for a slide or to climb on the playground.

This image is of the school for all infants and primary school-age children of British Army families on the island of Pulau Brani in Singapore Harbour.

We joined the school in early 1967 after the family moved from mainland Singapore in January 1967. At that time the school had just two classes to cover all the age groups. It shut (I think) in the summer of 1967 and all the children then faced a long daily journey to Wessex Junior and Infants School at Wessex Barracks on the mainland.

The journey consisted of minibus down to a jetty, a British Army harbour launch across the harbour to Jardine Steps and then a bus to Wessex Infant and Junior School. All in time for an 8 a.m. start (British Army tropical routine). School finished at 1 p.m. unless we stayed for what were effectively extra-curricular classes (sport, music and other activities), followed by the reverse journey back to Pulau Brani.

This was on the first roll of film I ever shot, on my Kodak point-and-shoot camera that I got for my birthday in 1967. By the time of the shot the school was shut.

. . . for the best effect :)

This is one of a number of promo shots I have done for the band shuffle, they were really fun to shoot and had a great look as well which made it even better.

Horatio and his friends are having great fun at the park.

As she swings, backwards and forwards, Great Aunt Tansy is day dreaming of the time she nearly ran away to join the circus, to become a famous trapeze artist.

The climbing frame was cut down last November. I finally received a reply from Staffs Moorlands council: metal fatigue had affected the frame and it was unsafe. Fair enough.

In the background, Biddulph Moor.

One of the best views from any park in the UK.

So for the last FDT of the year for some reason I thought it would be good to go back to where I did my first FDT of the year and try an improve on it. I think I have in my opinion. so there we are. I haven't managed to do an FDT every week but oh well I have enjoyed doing the ones I have done. Thanks you all in the group who have taken time to leave friendly comments on my facedown and I look forward to joining you all in the new year. HFDT everyone!

Halls Rd park. I don't know the purpose of the wall (except as a canvas for a street artist, who has since added another piece): I need some education ;)

Our school recently hosted a Basket-ball coaching exhibition and made use of it to promote our own programmes (and a couple of other complementary businesses).

As usual the spectators provided as many interesting photos as the players! This brother and sister (and a few other kids) were too busy enjoying the playground to pay much attention to the Basketball.

I'm a sucker for anything that has obvious geometry to it, so I couldn't resist trying to get a shot of this climbing frame. The lighting was not very conducive to photography yesterday when I went my early morning walk, but the colours here popped enough to spark my attention.

I spent yesterday also trying out different depth of field looks as I try to get used to shooting full frame. Many did not work out well, but I the effect here, though subtle, is part of why I like the photo.

Bruno saw me photographing insects again, and said "Hey! Take a picture of me!" I took quite a few, actually, mostly contre-jour, or with him pulling unintentionally weird faces and poses as he clambered -- but I rather like this one.

A very brightly coloured playground in the Welsh town of Risca. No kids playing there on this chilly day, hence the picture!

I spent a delightful Saturday with the Famous Flickr Five+ Group in the Yarra Valley, where we visited the picturesque Alowyn Gardens, which I had never heard of before, before having luncheon at the Yarrawood Winery.

The Alowyn Gardens are just outside Yarra Glen, east of Melbourne, in wine making country. The Alowyn Gardens started as weed and blackberry infested paddocks that were formerly part of a horse stud. The land was cleared in 1997 before revitalisation of the soil was conducted. Two years later in 1999 the first tree was planted. Today the Alowyn Gardens are well established, and provide an informative and educational experience for visitors. It has been designed with shade and comfort in mind. Plant names are on view to educate visitors about the gardens. The gardens have one of the largest Japanese Wisteria arbours as their centrepiece. Off it visitors may wander through seven very different styles of gardens, from the formal to the informal, European to Australian. The Native Garden is based on Australian plantings and features a dam and wetland area for animals, including a profusion of frogs and a great deal of birdlife. The Display Garden is a collection of courtyards and small gardens featuring collections of interesting plantings. The idea of the Display garden is to demonstrate what can be achieved in small spaces. The Edible Garden as the name suggests, shows that kitchen gardens can be beautiful as well as functional with rows of fruit trees, vegetable and medicinal gardens and a number of edible flowers that are both tasty and beautiful. The Birch and Casuarina Forest offers a woodland with enchanting hidden dells and contains a historical miner's hut. The Perennial Border contains herbaceous plants which are tough and hardy, survive with minimal work and are able to cope with Australia's hot summers and cold Yarra Valley winters. The Parterre Garden is based on the 15th Century French Renaissance design principles of low formal hedges formed into patterns. The French Provincial Garden is the largest of all the gardens and is surrounded by avenues of Chinese Elm, Crab Apple and Canadian Maple trees. It has large lawns, and a long water feature that runs the width of the garden.

Earth Designs Garden Design and Build were asked to created a landscape and propose garden design Holloway, North London. Here are the details on the project

The Batchelor Pad Garden in Holloway, North London

BRIEF:

Earth Designs were contacted by this client to enquire about a design for his urban garden in North London in the spring of 2008. At the time the client decided to contract another design company and we did not hear anything further for a year. The client subsequently contacted us to request a quote based on the design that he had commissioned from our competitor. We were able to undercut the quoted price by a significant margin and consequently the client was happy to contract the project.

SOLUTION:

The garden is a north facing with very limited access and is located to the rear of a five storey converted Victorian school building. Due to its location, all materials needed to be transferred by hand through the building, down a flight of stairs, through several doors and round several corners. The road adjacent to the property is very busy, making deliveries difficult and potential crane hire extremely expensive. However, Earth Designs have completed many gardens with limited access and so we have become have become adept at finding the best and least disruptive ways of transporting substantial amounts of materials and waste to and from a space. The design included a built-in hot tub which was to be a feature of the space. However, the specifications of the spa meant that it would be impossible transport through the property and therefore would need to be lifted by crane over the 5 storey property. This would have been cost preclusive, so we were able to advise the client on alternative hot tub selection and offer electrical installation and project management of the hot tub installation. The client also requested additional items beyond the contracted work, which we were happy to facilitate.

The garden itself was well designed, with raised rendered block beds to the rear of the garden and two chunky pergolas with shade sail covers providing privacy from the flats above. The garden was paved throughout with Indian grey sandstone in a random pattern.

TESTIMONIAL:

Earth Designs did a fantastic job with my garden and made what I thought was going to be a stressful process amazingly easy. They were flexible when I changed the brief after the project had got underway, and found creative solutions to any issues that arose during the build. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them for the quality of their work, attention to detail, project management and value for money.
