Work is getting underway on a new water treatment plant in Pittsfield financed with funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment (federal “stimulus”) Act administered by Illinois EPA. (Oct 2009)
Nearly $71 million in Recovery Act funds are putting Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) on track to wrap up several legacy environmental cleanup projects at two research reactors by September 2011.
The completion of the Recovery Act projects at BNL will end all EM legacy cleanup activities at the Lab.
Taking part in an active environmental community is paramount which is why we not only organise our own beach cleanup events but also help out whenever we are invited to join other organisations or groups who organise events which share our goals and dreams!

Divers help cleanup at Redondo Beach. Over 14,000 volunteers took part in Coastal Cleanup Day in Los Angeles County, cleaning up beaches, parks, alleys, creeks, highways and storm drains at 69 different sites. Over 300,000 pounds of debris and recyclables were removed by the various environmental organizations, community groups, families, local businesses, faith-based organizations and students that took part. These were used in the operation to clean up some of the contamination from the Chernobyl accident; they're still contaminated with radioactive particles, but not to the extent that they're dangerous to approach. Touching them would be inadvisable, though, as there are still dust particles on them, especially in areas that have been sheltered from the rain.
