... and a hospital for the holidays. My Dad became very ill on Christmas Day, actually, and it was a continuation, in a sense, of some things that had been going on since late summer, intensifying all along as the holidays grew closer, and autumn quickly became winter (and for those kind souls who have gotten to know me a bit over the years, you understand that this is, essentially -- and to varying degrees -- a part of my daily life as a primary caregiver for my Dad, who has Advanced Dementia, and has been this way for the entirety of my life on Flickr). I realize that I haven't spoken much of any of this for quite a while now, for a number of reasons. But you have been so generous, kind, sympathetic, and so forth, with your comments over the time that I've been a part of Flickr, that it almost feels disingenuous to not discuss these things at least on occasion. The holidays were, in all candor, some of the most trying I've ever experienced. But after receiving some solid care at multiple medical facilities, Dad is experiencing a serious uptick, so to speak. That man is so freaking resilient, and I certainly hope that it's genetic! ;) But at the moment at least, I swear he's doing better than I am! So, the holidays were really pretty much a wreck, and I did have to consult MY doc on more than one occasion RE some bizarre incidents -- my body, evidently, is bloody well sick of the steady diet of stress/anxiety. But, they are my parents (even though they always jokingly referred to themselves as my grandparents because I came along as a little hellion of a gift when they were "middle aged" ;). As I often remind myself, and the multitudinous med professionals I deal with all the time: what more need be said?
OK. "Enough! Or too much"
Apologies for yet another rambling session. What's the word value of a photograph again? ;) If you've (for whatever reason) read this far, thank you!
And beyond that, I appreciate all of your kindness and support over my years 'round these parts. So once again, Happy New Year, and warmest wishes for a wondrous 2010! Prost! ^_^
Ok so it might be a garbage truck, but who said you shouldn’t keep it clean? This is one of those drivers who doesn’t give a shit about his machine and takes no pride in his job, being the kind of worker who wouldn’t last long if I was his boss. For a start, I don’t know how an operator manages to get this much rubbish wrapped around the lifter, plus all the stuff which falls behind it and gradually gets squashed over the slide beam. Secondly, it doesn’t take long to remove a little bit of garbage which might get caught during the shift, especially when you get paid a bonus which covers the task of keeping your truck clean. Ironically, the back of the engine on this truck caught fire due to a build-up of plastic and paper behind the cab, so you’d think that would stimulate some brain cells to keep rubbish clear of all areas excluding the body and hopper insides. Sadly the other drivers I work with aren’t a great deal better with crap also littered around the lifter, over the hopper edge and ladder, behind the cab, etc... drivers don’t even have the level of care to remove tree branches which get clipped by the truck. I’ve got nothing positive to say on the company’s part either, because management is plain negligent for not inspecting the equipment and ensuring drivers are doing what they’re supposed to.

I posted an image of this adorably scruffy pup a few days ago. What he lacked in cleanliness and personal grooming, he more than made up for with high spirits and bags of character. It was impossible not to make images of such an entertaining wild creature. He looked so happy and contented with his lot.

Hygieia was the Greek goddess of health and cleanliness. Her name is the origin of the word "hygiene".
The abominable POTUS always scorned hygienic and other measures taken in order to prevent the spreading of covid-19, like wearing masks. Now he's a victim of his own egomania and stupidity.
"A White House long in denial confronted reality this week after President Trump and the first lady both tested positive for the virus, along with a cadre of close advisers, including Hope Hicks, a top White House aide, and Bill Stepien, the Trump campaign manager.
The outcome appeared shocking but also inevitable in a West Wing that assumed that rapid virus tests for everyone who entered each morning were substitutes for other safety measures, like social distancing and wearing masks.
But the outcome was also a byproduct, former aides said, of the recklessness and top-down culture of fear that Mr. Trump created at the White House and throughout his administration. If you wanted to make the boss happy, they said, you left the mask at home.
President Trump at times told staff wearing masks in meetings to “get that thing off,” an administration official said. Everyone knew that Mr. Trump viewed masks as a sign of weakness, officials said, and that his message was clear. “You were looked down upon when you would walk by with a mask,” said Olivia Troye, a top aide on the coronavirus task force who resigned in August and has endorsed former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr.
In public, some of the president’s favorite targets were mask-wearing White House correspondents. “Would you take it off, I can hardly hear you,” Mr. Trump told Jeff Mason of Reuters in May, then mocked Mr. Mason for wanting “to be politically correct” when he refused."

The red fox (Vulpes vulpes) typically dominate other fox species. Arctic foxes generally escape competition from red foxes by living farther north, where food is too scarce to support the larger-bodied red species. Although the red species' northern limit is linked to the availability of food, the Arctic species' southern range is limited by the presence of the former. Red and Arctic foxes were both introduced to almost every island from the Aleutian Islands to the Alexander Archipelago during the 1830s–1930s by fur companies. The red foxes invariably displaced the Arctic foxes, with one male red fox having been reported to have killed off all resident Arctic foxes on a small island in 1866. Where they are sympatric, Arctic foxes may also escape competition by feeding on lemmings and flotsam, rather than voles, as favoured by red foxes. Both species will kill each other's kits, given the opportunity.
Red foxes are serious competitors of corsac foxes, as they hunt the same prey all year. The red species is also stronger, is better adapted to hunting in snow deeper than 10 cm (4 in) and is more effective in hunting and catching medium to large-sized rodents. Corsac foxes seem to only outcompete red foxes in semi-desert and steppe areas. In Israel, Blanford's foxes escape competition with red foxes by restricting themselves to rocky cliffs and actively avoiding the open plains inhabited by red foxes.:84–85 Red foxes dominate kit and swift foxes. Kit foxes usually avoid competition with their larger cousins by living in more arid environments, though red foxes have been increasing in ranges formerly occupied by kit foxes due to human-induced environmental changes. Red foxes will kill both species, and compete for food and den sites. Grey foxes are exceptional, as they dominate red foxes wherever their ranges meet. Historically, interactions between the two species were rare, as grey foxes favoured heavily wooded or semiarid habitats as opposed to the open and mesic ones preferred by red foxes. However, interactions have become more frequent due to deforestation allowing red foxes to colonise grey fox-inhabited areas.
Wolves may kill and eat red foxes in disputes over carcasses. In areas in North America where red fox and coyote populations are sympatric, fox ranges tend to be located outside coyote territories. The principal cause of this separation is believed to be active avoidance of coyotes by the foxes. Interactions between the two species vary in nature, ranging from active antagonism to indifference. The majority of aggressive encounters are initiated by coyotes, and there are few reports of red foxes acting aggressively toward coyotes except when attacked or when their kits were approached. Foxes and coyotes have sometimes been seen feeding together. In Israel, red foxes share their habitat with golden jackals. Where their ranges meet, the two canids compete due to near identical diets. Foxes ignore jackal scents or tracks in their territories, and avoid close physical proximity with jackals themselves. In areas where jackals become very abundant, the population of foxes decreases significantly, apparently because of competitive exclusion.
Red foxes dominate raccoon dogs, sometimes killing their kits or biting adults to death. Cases are known of foxes killing raccoon dogs entering their dens. Both species compete for mouse-like prey. This competition reaches a peak during early spring, when food is scarce. In Tartaria, red fox predation accounted for 11.1% of deaths among 54 raccoon dogs, and amounted to 14.3% of 186 raccoon dog deaths in north-western Russia.
Red foxes may kill small mustelids like weasels, stone martens, pine martens, stoats, kolonoks, polecats and young sables. Eurasian badgers may live alongside red foxes in isolated sections of large burrows. It is possible that the two species tolerate each other out of mutualism; foxes provide badgers with food scraps, while badgers maintain the shared burrow's cleanliness.:15 However, cases are known of badgers driving vixens from their dens and destroying their litters without eating them. Wolverines may kill red foxes, often while the latter are sleeping or near carrion. Foxes in turn may kill unattended young wolverines.
Red foxes may compete with striped hyenas on large carcasses. Red foxes may give way to hyenas on unopened carcasses, as the latter's stronger jaws can easily tear open flesh that is too tough for foxes. Foxes may harass hyenas, using their smaller size and greater speed to avoid the hyena's attacks. Sometimes, foxes seem to deliberately torment hyenas even when there is no food at stake. Some foxes may mistime their attacks, and are killed.:77–79 Fox remains are often found in hyena dens, and hyenas may steal foxes from traps.
In Eurasia, red foxes may be preyed upon by leopards, caracals and Eurasian lynxes. The lynxes chase red foxes into deep snow, where their longer legs and larger paws give them an advantage over foxes, especially when the depth of the snow exceeds one metre. In the Velikoluki district in Russia, red foxes are absent or are seen only occasionally where lynxes establish permanent territories. Researchers consider lynxes to represent considerably less danger to red foxes than wolves do. North American felid predators of red foxes include cougars, Canadian lynxes and bobcats. Occasionally, large raptors such as Eurasian eagle owls will prey on young foxes, while golden eagles have been known to kill adults.

One of my favourite figs. Apart from the dodgy AFG, I'm very happy with the cleanliness of the rifle.
Cleanliness is next to godliness, or so the ancient saying goes. Here, at the Jama Masjid, India's largest mosque, believers wash their hands, faces and feet before prayer time.
As birds circled overhead, like small black dots in the overcast sky, I wandered around, bathing in the humid, post-monsoon heat, climbing minarets barefoot and takind the odd snapshot when something caught my eye. India is definitely not a place you want to miss visiting in this life!

From Wikipedia:
Islamic ritual purification is particularly centred on the preparation for ritual prayer; theoretically ritual purification would remain valid throughout the day, but is treated as invalid on the occurrence of certain acts, the passing of wind, sleep, contact with the opposite gender (depending on which school of thought), unconsciousness, and the emission of blood, semen, or vomit. Some schools of thought mandate that ritual purity is necessary for holding the Qur'an.
Ritual purification takes the form of ablution, in a lesser form (wudu), and greater form (ghusl), depending on the circumstance; the greater form is obligatory by a woman after she ceases menstruation, on a corpse that didn't die during battle, and after sexual activity, and is optionally used on other occasions, for example just prior to Friday prayers, or entering ihram.
An alternative "dry ablution"(tayammum), involving clean sand or earth, is used if clean water is not available or if suffering from an illness which would be worsened by the use of water; this form is invalidated in the same circumstances as the other forms, and also whenever water becomes available and safe to use. And is also necessary to be repeated (renewed) before every obligatory prayer.
The obligatory activities of the lesser form include beginning with the intention to purify oneself, washing of the face, arms, head, and feet. while some optional acts also exist such as recitation of the Bismillah,Oral hygiene|brushing of the teeth, the washing of the mouth, nose at the beginning, washing of arms to the elbows and washing of the ears at the end; additionally recitation of the Shahadah. The greater form(ghusl) is completed by first performing wudu and then ensuring that the entire body is washed. Some minor details of Islamic ritual purification may vary between different different schools of thought, as well as scholarly opinions, as well as between the different sects of Islam.

My parents both live by the motto, “Cleanliness is next to godliness.” It shows. Now my mother (who turns 88 in October) is assisted by a housekeeper who does all the dusting, vacuuming, bathrooms etc. But she still supervises everything, and dirty cups are not left long on the sink.
There's nothing in this picture to suggest anything other than a very happy household.
Or should that be ungodliness? (-;
