I spied this mature Bald Eagle after leaving Whitehorse, Canada, while driving our second car to Alaska from Maryland. The eagle landed on this stump and proceeded to work at it's claws, perhaps cleaning them, or working on something that hurt?

Another shot from the March thunderstorm over Hamilton this past spring when the weather was still being bipolar.

Since I won't be here next week I thought that I could upload a second picture. I took this one yesterday morning at the creek bank, where I was trying to get used to the longer focal length of the Cyclop. It is quite minimalistic, but I like the claw-shaped branch which looks like it is reaching out to grab some bokeh balls ;-) I hope you like it!

I was wandering around the shoreline near the old Dumbarton Bridge in Newark, California, capturing photons bouncing off driftwood when I found this; what looks like some kind of claw, maybe from a lobster or crab. Looked cool though.

Grizzly bear, locally known as Butterball, clawing at Chum salmon in the Klite River, Klahoose Nation, Tobas Inlet, BC.

This grizzly was laying down and scratching it's foot but my goodness what claws it has!

As soon as noticed this section of the falls, it reminded me of the Kansas album cover 'Song for America' from last century.

Male Fiddler Crab - the males have one large claw and a small one which can be on either the left or right side. This particular one is left clawed.. The males use this major claw in courtship behavior to attract the female. The smaller claw is used for eating. The female Fiddlers have two small claws.

Think how sharp your own cat's claws are. If they even give you a play tap with claws out or start falling off your lap and they dig in to keep their balance, it hurts and the chances are you get a scratch and it bleeds.

Now multiply that by 1000, no 10,000.

Asian small-clawed otters ( Aonyx cinerea).

They are the smallest otters in the world, weighing 2.4-3.8 Kg. Usual litter size is 2-7 & when born they weigh just 50 g. They are playful & social animals & are often found in groups of ca.12. With about 12 different sounds to communicate, including alarm, greeting & mating calls. Alas they are now considered to be officially vulnerable .

One of my numerous House Sparrows visitors to the bird feeders. I notice that this particular one has very long claws. I haven’t seen that before so I wonder is that normal or just a unique feature of this little one.

I added texture, several sliders and a bit of vingetting. Happy Slider Sunday everyone!! I hope all are having a marvelous weekend!

Common names: Climbing lily, Creeping lily, Fire lily, Flame lily, Gloriosa lily, Glory lily, Tiger claw.

Botanical name: Gloriosa superba.

Family: Colchicaceae.

Taken at Kirstenbosch Gardens, Cape Town, South Africa.

As the name suggests, the Flame lily comes in glorious colours of orange and yellow, but for some perverse reason, I decided to strip it of all colour :-)
