A Berlin, N.H., native, Hood is a two-time first team All-Ivy selection. Despite missing the final four games of this season due to injury, she was still impressive enough in 13 games to earn All-America honors. Inspired by her participation in the Summer Enrichment at Dartmouth (SEAD) program for high school students and volunteer work at an under-resourced high school in Fairmont, W.Va., Hood hopes to pursue a career in education. In her free time, she teaches field hockey to local middle and high school athletes.
“This past fall, I got hit in the face with a ball and broke my cheekbone in three places. It was the first time I had ever been seriously injured before and was unable to play. In retrospect, I think the injury was a very positive experience for me. As a Division I athlete, there are definitely days where playing a sport feels like a job or just another assignment on a very long ‘to do’ list. However, the injury made me realize how much I enjoy playing, and I no longer take my time spent on the field for granted.”
