Outside the CHarles Holden designed Underground station the latest edition of the evening is being delivered. In the fifties, the newspapers used vans based on the taxi chassis of the day - the Austin FX3. This is a crude homemade conversion based on the Classix FL1 version (a hire car without the rooftop taxi indicator) that I built a couple of years ago.
I hope it wasn't the van driver that hit the yellow 'No Waiting' sign out of true!
History repeats itself as I believe that van versions of the modern electric taxis are now being built.
Looking tired, this Bristol RE (RELL new in June 1973) is ferrying workers to the factory on contract. Not too sure who owns it now - but it was a Bristol /Western National vehicle.
Now only 16 years old it has bot been cared for well.

Classix 1/76 scale model of the Ford E83W Thames van. The design of the van had the engine offset to the nearside in order to allow a shorter bonnet length and consequently a longer loadspace. A passenger seat was an extra, and was set back due to the intrusion of the engine.
The design of the radiator grille had two holes to allow the starting handle to engage with the end of the crankshaft - the 'offside' hole being used for export models to countries that drove on the right.
The model was introduced in 1938 and continued until 1957 when succeeded by the 400E.

1:76. OO Gauge Diorama railway. The pub is a modified, repainted, detailed and weathered Hornby resin building. The level crossing can be seen between the pub and the old signal box which closed a few years ago. The branch line is lightly used by railcars, DMUs and the odd freight train. The car is by Classix. This mini layout is almost finished, just a little more work needed.

Known locally as Holbeck Arches this area has the railway station above the street with a small bus station providing connections between the modes of travel. A small ticket office survives at Leeds Holbeck Station on the ground floor. Nearby there is now a Snack Caravan which wasnt open when this picture was taken. A refurbished Class 108 DMU purrs away in the only surviving platform and the bus must be one of the very last to wear Leeds City Tansport 2 tone green as we are firmly in the middle to late 1970s era, when WYPTE and Metro had taken over all local Transport from 1974. The railway station is now a terminus although you can see where the lines used to continue East from here. That was until the railway bridge over the road was found to be structurally unsafe (and since the Beeching cuts of the 60s, Holbeck didint see many tthough trains anyway), so the bridge was demolished rather than repaired.
Most of this story and location is fictional but built on some aspects of reality to enable this small working diorama / model railway.
