Evening Star was the last class 9 steam locomotive built for what was then British Railways.
Built in Swindon Works in March 1960
An official works photograph of the men who assembled the Brush Traction Class 92 locomotives standing proudly alongside 92006 "Louis Armand" at the famous Falcon Works in Loughborough.
Also in the shot is one of the Bo-Bo-Bo Eurotunnel Class 9 locomotives, the first batch of which were also built at Brush around the same time as the 92s.
The photograph is undated, but believed to have been taken around 1994, which was when 92006 was released from the works.
This photograph was given to me by the wife of one of the gentlemen in the photograph, who has since sadly passed away.
Class 9F 2-10-0 steam locomotive 92214 on the Severn Valley Railway, SVR. The Swindon-built, ex-British Railways engine was visiting the Severn Valley Railway from the Great Central Railway in Leicestershire. It is pictured here with the 3.26 p.m. Santa Special from Arley to Kidderminster in Worcestershire just after sunset on Sunday December 7th 2014. The train has just left Bewdley and is heading up towards Kidderminster Tunnel, close to the West Midland Safari Park. Just before the train arrived there had been a flurry of vapour trails in the sky but most had quickly disappeared just in time. There were quite a few photographers gathered here as the thermometer dropped to around zero. This was the first weekend of operation at the SVR for the 9F - known to some as a Spaceship - which was visiting the railway to help out with the intensive running of Santa trains until January.
In BR days, class 9 was the designation for unfitted very slow freights. Since the elimination of those lumbering freights, class 9 was resurrected for trains that couldn't be more different.
Used for what are essentially class 1 trains, on the WCML they designate VWC trains via Birmingham. Here 9M52, Virgin West Coast’s 0852 Edinburgh – Euston Voyager, speeds down Shap Bank on 14 May 2019.

The Eurotunnel Class 9 locomotives were built by a consortium principally involving Brush and ABB. They are single-ended Bo-Bo-Bos of 7,500 hp.

Eurotunnel Class 9 9037 hauls a passenger shuttle around the Cheriton terminal loop after arriving from Calais.
A slightly de-saturated version of a picture I took today at the GCR, Loughborough, to try to add to the steam age feel. Always one of my favourite British main line steam types was the Riddles designed BR standard 9F. It was a pleasant end to our friendly group's touring activities for 2015 to be hauled by this beast and to eat a full English breakfast in the 'Griddle Car' whilst on the move.

The Eurotunnel Class 9s (or Class 9000s) have been used exclusively since they were built in the mid-1990s to work the car and lorry shuttles through the Channel Tunnel.

The Channel Tunnel area around Cheriton is not the best area for photographs, especially in poor weather, although it is possible with a little effort. Here,Class 9/8 loco 9838 'Hildegard Behrens' is on the rear of a shuttle arriving from France - 16.1.17.
