During the May 2005 SLST Drakensberg Explorer, an hour was spent visiting the SANRASM preservation site at Chamdor, near Krugersdorp.

Here is Class 7A, SAR No.990, built by Sharp Stewart & Co., Glasgow, in 1896.

In 2010, the site was raided by metal thieves who completely destroyed this, and around 26 other historical locos too.

They were all way beyond repair, and were scrapped.

The site was abandoned.
