CSX C219-28 is comes crashing into Lee hall on the peninsula with, at the time, relatively new NYC heritage unit coming down to the piers.
Im happy with this shot. Its not perfect, lots of nitpicks i would like to point out. However this was a really fun memory for me. Was chilling at the HO club with a group of buddy and i remembered one of us check Facebook to see this was coming down to Lee hall very soon. Three of us went to Lell Hall and saw it pretty fresh. This was the first ever CSX Heritage unit to make its way to Newport News so i was very pleased to be able to document it.
Yes, Yes it was
NS 273 after waiting for locals to clear and having PTC problems, finally makes it to George Washington Highway with six engines all facing elephant style.
I woke up at 6:30 for the shot and the train didn't show up until 2:10. I spent those hour looking for the BNSF engine with no luck. I spent hours at Portlock look for it but came empty handed. However I knew it was around because I heard 273 on the scanner. Finally i founds them with a bonus three dash nines which put a smile on my face. I then had to figure out where i wanted to shoot the train at. I was thinking about a field shot but i had just shot that spot and wanted something new. So i designed to finally shoot on the George Washington Highway Bridge. Thinking the train would be here in the next 20 minutes, i waited on top of the bridge for the train; However, The lead unit started having PTC problems so that held them up a bit. Im super happy with this shot even though it very basic, No one i know of has shot here so im glad i was able to do it some justice
Amtrak's California Zephyr train #5, led by 40 year anniversary unit #184, rounds the curve and heads into Tunnel 1 as it begins its journey through the Colorado Rockies on its way West to Emeryville, CA
This NS intermodal freight crosses Yellow Breeches Creek and heads down the Lurgan Branch.
I believe I heard this train call symbol NS 27A on the radio.
I finally caught a train over the bridge in decent light. It was a WB, when I would rather have an EB in this light, but for now I'll take it.
Of note is that the containers at the head end are hauling trash.

Just to the East of Hershey Park, there is a small railyard with lots of freight cars for Hershey Foods. But the mainline is where the action really heats up as seen with this passing high-seed intermodal freight.

NS 276 starts to pull out of the swamp at Yadkin with a ACC leading up front from Chicago. I actually brought a school friend with to see this train. He's getting into railfanning and I wanted him to catch his first heritage unit. He had a blast and I hope he ends up coming with me more often.
This westbound freight got some helpers on the headend (seen here) as well as the rear. The photo was taken at the world-famous Horseshoe Curve.
NS local NV03 sits on Seaboard ave with #3220 at the lead. I've only seen this move twice and I wasn't even expecting it. I was on my way home and then I saw the gates were down and stop to see what it was. had a very friendly crew as well.
CP 6043 sits stalled on the hill at Elm Grove with an over 9000 foot 247. Somehow the train escaped Bensenville with only two SD40-2s for power. I’m not sure what they expected to happen.
NS 824 is leaded by NS 9839 on a nice spring afternoon as it cuts through the curve approaching's Portlock yard.

Unlike my last post, i don't know the symbol for this train but it doesn't really matter because i was just happy to see a train on this curve. Pretty obvious that im not to familiar with looking for trains in the North Carolina area, so when i was searching through google maps and saw this curve i knew i wanted to shoot it and i think the results speak for themself.
A scene that will soon be lost to time, a trio of AC44s make a beeline through west Springfield yard.

A NS manifest waits on Fort Rd outside of Rockwood Michigan with a BNSF C4 Gevo leading a NS SD40-2. I ended coming to this spot a lot, whenever i came back here a new power set would be sitting here and was also very easy to chase.
NS 4545 is the lone leader (there was a DPU on the end) of a mixed freight down the Lurgan on July 4th.
