Temple of the Count another elegant Classic Palenque temple, which got its name from the fact that early explorer Jean Frederic Waldeck lived in the building for some time, and Waldeck claimed to be a count.

It's a harder way

And it's come to claim her

And I always say

We should be together

I can see below

'Cause there's something in here

And if you are gone

I will not belong here

And I started to hear it again

But this time it wasn't the end

And the room was so quiet, oh

And my heart is a hollow plain

For the devil to dance again

And the room was too quiet, oh

I was looking for a breath of life

A little touch of heavenly light

But all the choirs in my head sang no

House Wren very noisily staking his territorial claim around the nesting box. Both my small bird nesting boxes are now occupied by house wrens who very aggressively defend them.

Unfortunately, since the arrival of the house wrens chasing other small birds away from the nesting boxes, species such as chickadees, tufted titmouse and even carolina wrens seem to be visiting my yard, in Chester County, PA, much less frequently.

If you remember in October we (Paddington and I) visited York and in Stonegate's Original Teddy Bear Shop Paddington noticed a Lonely Bear. Paddinton wanted me to take a photo of him and Lonely Bear. The photo session ended in the train. Paddington decided that all this Bear needs is Family. Our Family!

And He had a Passport already, so there should be no obstacles to travel from one country to another

Bear's name Was Nobody is Perfect.

Born in Stockholm, Sweden. Manufactured by Bukowski Bears

Paddington claimed that this name did not suit the Bear: "All Bears are perfect. We will give him a Proper Name"

After long travelling around finally we reached our home in Latvia. Paddington introduced the new friend to the Family: "This is our new family member and from now on he will live with us."

Happy Teddy Bear Tuesday!

P.S. In the photo you see just some members of family.

In the background is Frida, a bear girl from Edinburgh. Frida is a gift from a good friend. Also in the picture there are the twin brothers Leopards. They were the first to support me when I was far away from home. In the picture you don't see Paddington's close friend Matilda, who is currently seeing a Mouse doctor.

Well I would like to claim this happened, but offroadannonymous was stood next to me and has already a posted a shot of both.

He was concerned the clay train would be bowled by the HST and his fears were averted as the HST rounded the corner, but wait the toot of the horn of the approaching 66 could be heard at the same time. What seemed like an age holding the camera steady as it was joked it would be easier if I nipped back to the car to get my tripod. Anyway the overlay was surprisingly minimal for being handheld.

The location Burngullow Junction, well about half a mile west.

This Gannet was staking a claim to this prime nesting location at Bempton Cliffs earlier today. It left occasionally to collect nesting material but in it's absence other Gannets would help themselves to the materials it had already collected!

Under it's left wing you can just make out some blue plastic material. Plastic will, sadly, continue to make up a considerable part of the nests of sea birds unless and until we get a grip of this man-made crisis.

As always, thank you so much for stopping by and for leaving any comments or faves, they are very much appreciated.

Teddy is all about forbidden spaces. We keep him out of bedrooms as he tends to be a little thief, but he never misses an opportunity when presented. We’ve been redecorating a small bedroom and there is absolutely nothing in it of interest to Teddy. But this morning I opened the door for just a second - and got this….Looking seriously pleased with himself. He posed all over the room

The small community of Hatch, New Mexico bills itself as the chili capital of the world. There did seem to be a lot of chilies there. Fresh, dried, roasted, bottled, green or red; whatever your heart desires in the way of chili can be found in Hatch.

Happy Saturated Saturday!

The tundra is the breeding home of many bird species including the Long-tailed Duck. For me, the predominant sounds of the tundra include the melodious bugle call of the male. Every few minutes, this very territorial little guy's call could be heard as he claimed his space. He is full of ATTITUDE and thinks nothing of chasing off birds twice his size such as the Eider.

A House Wren claiming its territory after stealing the nesting hole in my yard.

I had known that that birds protect their nesting holes, but until this 'Stay-at-home' I had never realized the how much competition there is for such nesting sites. The nesting hole in mu yard has been used by Carolina Wrens and Chickadees in recent years.

So I have been watching the activity at the nesting hole. Over the last couple of weeks, I have seen bluebirds, nuthatches and Carolina chickadees inspecting the hole, but eventually chickadees nicely claimed the hole, and busily added nesting materials.

Then a couple of days ago the House Wrens flew in, threw all the chickadee's nesting material and added their own. As can be seen from the photograph, the wrens very nosily and aggressively defended the area around the hole, including chasing away a pair of gold finches that had started building a nest close by.

Suddenly yesterday chickadees reappeared, threw out all the wrens nesting material andante again added their own.

For the past day or so there has been very little activity around the nesting hole. Either birds have given up and decided that it is too difficult to protect, or more likely someone, maybe a chickadee, wren or house sparrow is inside the hole incubating eggs.

I am fascinated to see the next episode in the Nesting Hole saga, and when something interesting happens I will make a follow up posting.

This treacherous coastline has claimed so many lives. Each year a Commemoration Ceremony for those lost at sea is held at nearby Kilmore Quay. Before my father's death in 2014 he was the main wreath layer at this ceremony for over ten years. He was the only living survivor of the sinking of the SS Isolda which was bombed by the Germans on December 19th 1940. Six of his friends lost their lives that morning.

RIP Dad

History

Isolda was a lightship tender owned by the Commissioners of Irish Lights and registered in Dublin. On her sides in letters five feet high were the words ‘Lighthouse Service’. At dawn on 19th December 1940 she sailed from Rosslare with relief crew for the Barrels and Coningbeg Light-ships. The relief men were placed on board Barrels and the ship then headed for the Coningbeg. When she was three miles from the lightship aircraft attacked her. Observers in the army lookout post at Carnsore Point witnessed the massacre as bombs hit the ship starting massive fires. Six men were killed and seven wounded. Next day the German High Command announced the sinking.

It is wisely claimed, that a Jedi is deadly and almost unstoppable. As a member of the Imperial inquisitorial squad we focus on the "Almost", and fear not the Jedi traitors. It is quite interesting that those who hunt and oppose them who stand on the symbolic divine pillar should give rise to such controversy and debate.

But we don't care, we know what has to be done, and we have got quite efficient at neutralising the threat.

One all to often hear claims that during the clone wars the clone troopers was skilled enough to vanquish the Jedi. They had one advantage we don't, they surprised their Jedi commanders and turned foe with not a seconds notice. The element of surprise is a luxury we seldom, almost never, enjoy, they the clones cheated. Instead we train hard, we study them, we hunt them, we fight them, we die, we vanquish the remnants of the order, and they flee and finally, inevitably, they die. We bring peace and stability to a war torn empire.

A majestic and powerful eagle and maybe the largest raptor found in the country. A full grown adult eagle is around 80-90 cms tall with a wingspan of around ~6-8 feet. These weigh around 3-4.5 kgs - roughly 50-60% heavier than a Greater Spotted Eagle which is the common large raptor we see in our state..

During our recent Desert national Park trip, we sighted many of them all over the national park - they were just sitting on the ground alone and a few times in a group. On this day, we sighted 3 of them together with 2 Griffon vultures behind them - it was an awesome sight for me. All of these were impressive sized raptors - majestic, fearless and with a muscular / bouncer kind of look.

The birds probably had roosted the whole night in the open ground. They are hunters, but mostly scavengers and sometimes claim kill from other birds like the Falcons, harriers etc.. They also hunt reptiles, mammals like Fox, the young ones of Deer/ Antelopes, Ducks and Geese all of which are found in the desert.

These are national birds of Kazakhstan and are migratory to India during winters. They are very rare in my state, but common in the place I visited.

White-faced Heron (Egretta novaehollandiae)

We had a pair of Herons nesting in the trees at the pumping station for a few years. This one was claiming this tree for the season.

From the archives.

Sif is traditionally depicted with long, golden hair which some scholars claim symbolizes wheat.

She is part of a divine fertility couple as Sif represents the soil of the earth and the golden bounty of the fields.

Thor, the thunder god, represents the rain that fertilizes that soil to produce crops.

As a jest, Loki the Trickster, cut Sif's golden hair, leaving her bald and heartbroken. This may represent the harvesting of the crops and the stubble left in the fields.

Thor forced Loki to replace the cut hair with golden locks.

In my picture the replacement is a crown formed of wheat heads and swirling flag leaves, which Sif wears over her regrown hair, which is once again almost ready to harvest.

Standing resolute against time and carved by hands long turned to dust, the Citadel of the Mist clings to the cliffs. Legends tell of its final keeper, Bríghid, a widowed queen who ruled in solitude after the fall of her kingdom. Betrayed by her court, she stood alone to face an invading army.

But the invaders never attacked. On the eve of their assault, a storm swept through, shrouding the cliffs in impenetrable fog. Cries of anguish and terror echoed through the valley. When dawn broke, the soldiers were gone, their camp empty, the watchfires still smoldering.

Some say the mists rose to protect her; others claim Bríghid’s grief birthed a curse. Years later, villagers discovered the halls empty, untouched but for the throne and a silver crown resting upon it. To this day, the mist lingers, curling through the trees like an eternal lament. Stand still, they say, and you’ll hear her voice, soft, sorrowful, and forever alone.

A Red Tailed hawk lays claim to an abandoned farmhouse.

If you ever explored an abandoned house, aside from the decay, you will likely notice huge amounts of rodent droppings. The hawk has chosen it's territory wisely, just perch outside and wait for the rats and mice to show themselves.
