Seems like modern buildings are a bit flimsy nowadays. The apparent brickwork is actually cladding.
"A road in Loughborough is set to stay closed for weeks after “dangerous” loose cladding was reported on a building. Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) taped off The Coneries at the Cradock Street junction, near the town centre, yesterday morning, Wednesday, January 24, after receiving several calls from members of the public.
Scaffolding was put up around the building so work can take place to make it safe. LFRS said it had contacted the landlord of the privately owned building and had spoken to him about “getting the cladding removed". Built in 1957, this modernist limestone-clad church structure with some Art Deco influences was designed by Edward J. Schulte for the congregation of the Our Lord Christ the King Catholic Church, located at the corner of Linwood Avenue and Ellison Avenue in Cincinnati's Mount Lookout neighborhood. The building replaced an earlier, temporary church on the site, a humble structure built rapidly over a few months in 1927. The current church, a rather streamlined design, features a modernist sanctuary with walls that curve inwards at the windows, a large cross relief on the south facade (facing Ellison Avenue), and a thin, prominently-sited cylindrical tower that appears to draw heavy inspiration from the Art Deco style, with streamlined sculptural elements and reliefs, standing at the eastern corner of the site and containing a baptistery at the base, which was connected to the building via a limestone-clad canopy. Also on the grounds of the church is the Cardinal Pacelli School, founded in 1927 and initially built in 1936 in the Stripped Classical Revival style, which received a second-story addition in 1963. The church is a prominent landmark along Linwood Avenue heading east from Mount Lookout Square, and stands next to a modern multi-purpose Parish Center, built in 1992 to serve the needs of the church and school, and the Cross and Crown Atrium, linking the Parish Center to the church, which was built in 2017-18.

Many of the temples are constructed from huge blocks of carved sandstone often placed on top of blocks that are stronger but less easy to carve - early form of stone cladding!
I clad our "temporary" kitchen counter eating area in nice Maple. None of these pictures actually show it completed, just dry fit prior to finishing. It's going to look really nice, I think.

Built in 1894, this limestone-clad Gothic Revival-style church was designed by Samuel Hannaford and Sons, and is located at the corner of Epworth Avenue and Urweiler Avenue in Cincinnati’s Westwood neighborhood. The church features a tall bell tower at a 45-degree angle to the rest of the structure, with a quatrefoil window, pinnacles, and tall spire, multiple gable parapets, gothic stained glass windows, slate roofs, a skylight, a semi-circular apse, and buttresses. The church saw the addition in 1926 of a large educational wing in the Tudor Revival style, with a limestone facade, decorative limestone trim, decorative spandrel panels, a doorway with a gothic arch transom, and an addition in 1951 of additional educational space, with the building featuring a much simpler form and flat roof, with only the entrance and stone cladding showing influence from the two previous buildings. The church is a contributing structure in the Westwood Town Center Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
