One of my favorite Lisbon 'icons' are the traditional azulejo (ceramic tiles) clad buildings throughout the capital.
These are at 'Praça LuÃs de Camões'...a homage to Portugal's greatest poet, author of the epic 'Luisiada'!
Electric cables criss cross the sky to power the electric trams that scoot up, down and around the busy Lisbon streets.
Street lights are also a great feature to look out for...
Pleurodeles waltl DNA polymerase ?.Schematic representation of P. waltl Pol? mRNAs (A). The short variant (Pol? ? Ex 8) presents a 103 bp deletion corresponding to exon 8. This deletion removes one part of the active site of the protein. The BRCT (breast cancer suppressor protein carboxy-terminal) and the Pol X domain, which contains the active site, are required for Pol? function. Pol? variants were amplified using primers indicated by horizontal arrows (B). Quantification of the obtained PCR products using a Gel Doc 2000 and the Quantity One v.4.3.1 software (Bio-Rad, Hercules, CA, USA) indicates that the short isoform represents 16% and 6% of the Pol? transcripts in the spleen and testis of P. waltl, respectively. Ctl??=?negative control. MW?=?100 bp DNA ladder. A cladogram was then constructed by neighbor joining (C) supported with 1000 bootstrap replications using the MEGA4 software (www.megasoftware.net/) and the following sequences: Terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT); Bos taurus (DAA14763), Homo sapiens (BAB72001), Mus musculus (NP_001036693), Gallus gallus (NP_990720), Ambystoma mexicanum (AA092254), Xenopus laevis (NP_001079251), Danio rerio (AAS89780). Polymerase beta; Mus musculus (NP_035260), Homo sapiens (NP_002681), Xenopus laevis (NP_001081643), Xenopus tropicalis (AAH74537), Xiphophorus maculatus (AAU11319). Polymerase lambda; Danio rerio (NP_998408), Xenopus tropicalis (NP_001093716), Mus musculus (NP_064416), Homo sapiens (NP_001167555). Polymerase mu; Homo sapiens (NP_037416), Mus musculus (NP_059097), Danio rerio (NP_956542), Xenopus tropicalis (NP_001164987), Pleurodeles waltl (HE583591). The scale bar corresponds to the evolutionary distance.
Munnar - enchanting mist clad hills
Quaint cottages, fragrant tea gardens and mist-draped mornings are hallmarks of Munnar. For years the cool and picturesque town of Munnar was the summer retreat of the British and it still retains the charm of a colonial past. The destination is home to the only sandalwood forest in Kerala and is also famous for its exotic flora and fauna. The Nilgiri tahr (mountain goat), the grizzled giant squirrel and the once-in-twelve-year blooming wonder - Neelakurinji flower (Strobilantheskunthiana) are special to Munnar.
Munnar - breathtakingly beautiful - a haven of peace and tranquility - the idyllic tourist destination in God's own country.
Set at an altitude of 6000 ft in Idukki district, Munnar was the favored summer resort of the erstwhile British rulers in the colonial days. Unending expanse of tea plantations - pristine valleys and mountains- exotic species of flora and fauna in its wild sanctuaries and forests - aroma of spice scented cool air !!!!!!!
BEAST chronogram for the combined data and hypothesized biogeographic history of Sarraceniaceae.(A) Mean divergence times estimates are shown at the nodes of the cladogram. 95% posterior probability distribution shown with thick blue lines. Ancestral areas reconstructions from LAGRANGE [70], [71] shown in boxes near nodes. SA = South America; ENA = Eastern North America; WNA = Western North America; SAf = South Africa; and As = Asia. (B) We hypothesize that Sarraceniaceae originated in the Middle Eocene, perhaps in South America, and achieved its widespread distribution in North and South America by the Late Eocene. An early migration of Sarraceniaceae out of South America during the Eocene may have been facilitated via land connections in the proto-Caribbean. This connection would likely have been unavailable for direct overland migration by the mid-Oligocene, which is consistent with the early Oligocene disjunction of northern (Sarracenia, Darlingtonia) and southern (Heliamphora) members of Sarraceniacace. An East (Sarracenia+Heliamphora)/West (Darlingtonia) disjunction occurred in the very latest Oligocene, and may have been attributable to broad scale cooling and aridification during the late Oligocene.

Split Croatia- Pine-clad hills, secluded coves, beaches- Split and the Dalmatian Riviera have been premier destinations on the Adriatic since the days of theRoman Emperors.
In fact, medieval Split was built within and around the palace built for the emperor Diocletian in his retirement.
The charms that entertained Emperors are still evident today. The Dalmatian Riviera offers the traveler a heady blend of natural beauty and fascinating cultural sites.
Diocletian abdicated in 305 A.D . During his reign , the emperor ruthlessly persecuted Christians. Ironically Split’s St. Dominius’ Cathedral occupies his mausoleum.
As far as we know, the original settlers here were Dalmatians tribes, later joined by Greek merchants, who saw the value of the harbor and its proximity to the rich interior. The first Romans stablished a colony nearby at Selona in 78 B.C, taking full advantage of the same features. Selona eventually became the Roman administrative center for Dalmatia, especially after Caesar settled other Italian colonist there. Roman roads and aqueducts were added to exploit the rich mines and farms along the sunny coast.
Diocletian Palace- The heart of old Split is built within and around the sprawling 8.4 acre(3.4 hectare) Palace erected by Diocleti
One of the very very best. An elegant terrace, built 1885 with some nice detailing in the panels between floors and beneath the eaves. (see in All sizes) I am less keen on the door and windows which both rather over-egg the pudding, but I can't fault the cladding and indeed the choice of house. A very fine residence. The design features (it looks like the date is missing, c 1885-6 from the plaque) were used by George Sherrin in Westcombe Park Avenue in Blackheath from the same period.

Yellow stones are a Tottenham speciality, but unfortunately not replicated in the wall. The brick effects just beneath the window lintel level on the upper floor are curious.

Phylogeny of MHC I diversity in Atlantic cod.A) Unrooted polar cladogram of all unique cDNA sequences of MHC Ia and Ib in Atlantic cod, based on amino acid sequence alignment. Elongated branches illustrate sequences originating from at least two independent PCR reactions. B) Subset of sequences highlighted in a), rooted with additional teleost Ia and Ib sequences from Ensembl. Maximum likelihood (ML) and Bayesian posterior probabilities are shown for the basal branches. Scale bar represents number of amino acid substitutions pr site.
Established in 1862 when gold was discovered along Grasshopper Creek (previously named Willard's Creek by none other than the Lewis and Clark expedition in 1807), Bannack was also the capital of Montana Territory in 1864. As can be seen from these and other structures still standing, the town prospered, but only until the price of gold dropped in the late 1930s and failed to recover after the War. Many buildings continued to be occupied into the 1950s, and are sufficiently preserved (but definitely endangered!) today to enter safely for a good sense of what it was like to live there.
Brain endocasts and left endosseous inner ears of turtles available in the literature displayed in a simplified cladogram (based on Joyce [25]).The black circle indicates a synapomorphy based clade definition while the white circle indicates a crown-group definition following Joyce et al. This young lady is dancing at the "Ticket to the 20s" event at the Workman Temple Homestead museum in the City of Industry, California. She just came from a fashion show where she modeled 1920s lingerie. Note that, being outdoors, she IS wearing her hat and gloves. A lady is always properly dressed.

The original name plaque on this house has been retained. It reads LOW HALL VILLA. This is quite a fine house, especially the upper window arches. The end wall retains the original brickwork as a conterbalance. Is that Stone clad surgery style extension really triangular? Fabulous.
Shame about the rubbish bags, should have moved them, but where?

Advantages of laser cladding
The laser cladding process has a minimal heat input into the part compared to PTA, TIG or MIG weld processes.
This leads to the following benefits:
- Very low dilution with substrate (less than 2%)
- Uniformly dispersed hard particles in metal matrix
- Metallurgical bonding to substrate
- Fine deposit microstructures
- Precise control of build-up height
- Reduced distortion / heat input into base part
