The Roman satirical poet Juvenal (late first century) is the one supposed to have coined the phrase "bread and circuses":
"... Already long ago, from when we sold our vote to no man, the People have abdicated our duties; for the People who once upon a time handed out military command, high civil office, legions — everything, now restrains itself and anxiously hopes for just two things: bread and circuses."
—Juvenal, Satire 10.77–81
How easily we have given up our livelihoods in place of empty promises and handouts. We save a few dollars on cheap goods made in China, and rob ourselves of a prosperous and self-sustaining future. There's a warning in all this: Even the mighty Roman empire fell into ruin and disregard.
P.S. I have absolutely nothing against actual circuses, as you'll see in the days ahead. www.flickr.com/photos/luminosity7/52342196650/in/datepost...

Was thinking something along the lines of CIRCUS FREAK BRIDE... hence the clown-like make up and the elephant...and that was inspired by HBO series Carnival...

Bath, Somerset UK.
The Circus is an example of Georgian architecture in the city of Bath, begun in 1754 and completed in 1768. The name comes from the Latin 'circus', which means a ring, oval or circle.
Divided into three segments of equal length, the Circus is a circular space surrounded by large townhouses. Each of the curved segments faces one of the three entrances, ensuring that whichever way a visitor enters there is a classical facade straight ahead.
The Circus, originally called King's Circus, was designed by the architect John Wood the Elder, although he never lived to see his plans put into effect as he died less than three months after the first stone was laid. It was left to his son, John Wood the Younger to complete the scheme to his father's design.
Wood's inspiration was the Roman Colosseum, but whereas the Colosseum was designed to be seen from the outside, the Circus faces inwardly. Three classical Orders, (Greek Doric, Roman/Composite and Corinthian) are used, one above the other, in the elegant curved facades. The frieze of the Doric entablature is decorated with alternating triglyphs and 525 pictorial emblems, including serpents, nautical symbols, devices representing the arts and sciences, and masonic symbols. The parapet is adorned with stone acorn finials. (from Wikipedia)

and sometimes when you're walking around you see things that you never would have seen regardless of how many times you've driven by the same exact spot before. not sure what goes down around here, someone should find out and let me know
“CIRCUS, n. A place where horses, ponies and elephants are permitted to see men, women and children acting the fool.”

Circus Wagon- Detail
The circus was across the street from where I work- all I got to see was the trucks and wagons :(
Chipperfield Circus came to Daventry during October 2016, and we went along on the 16th. A fantastic show, which ended with the ringmaster proposing to his girlfriend. Only downside is that all the caravans were parked in the way to get a decent shot of the big top!
If they need any more clowns, I can think of a few in Northampton they can have.

There's only two types of people in the world
The ones that entertain, and the ones that observe
Well baby I'm a put-on-a-show kinda girl
Don't like the backseat, gotta be first
I'm like the ringleader
I call the shots
(Call the shots)
I'm like a firecracker
I make it hot
When I put on a show
I feel the adrenaline moving through my veins
Spotlight on me and I'm ready to break
I'm like a performer, the dance floor is my stage
Better be ready, hope that you feel the same
All the eyes on me in the center of the ring
Just like a circus
When I crack that whip, everybody gonna trip
Just like a circus
Don't stand there watching me, follow me
Show me what you can do
Everybody let go, we can make a dance floor
Just like a circus
There's only two types of guys out there
Ones that can hang with me, and ones that are scared
So baby I hope that you came prepared
I run a tight ship, so beware
I'm like a ring leader
I call the shots
(Call the shots)
I'm like a fire cracker
I make it hot
When I put on a show
I feel the adrenaline moving through my veins
Spotlight on me and I'm ready to break
I'm like a performer, the dance floor is my stage
Better be ready, hope that you feel the same
All the eyes on me in the center of the ring
Just like a circus
When I crack that whip
Everybody gonna trip
Just like a circus
Don't stand there watching me, follow me
Show me what you can do
Everybody let go
We can make a dance floor
Just like a circus
Let's go
Let me see what you can do
I'm running this
(Like, like like a circus)
Yeah, like a what?
(Like, like like a circus)
All the eyes on me in the center of the ring
Just like a circus
When I crack that whip
Everybody gonna trip
Just like a circus
Don't stand there watching me, follow me
Show me what you can do
Everybody let go
We can make a dance floor
Just like a circus
All the eyes on me in the center of the ring
Just like a circus
