Here you can see the SCAF chip, an LTC1060. From the NE QRP website:
``The integrated circuit at the heart of the NESCaf is made up of two CMOS active filters. These filters are extremely configurable (low pass, band pass, notch etc).
We have chosen to set up both filters as Butterworth band pass filters and to cascade the filters. Butterworth filters have the characteristic of constant amplitude in the band pass region, while the cutoff knee is not be as sharp as if the filter were configured as a Chebychev. We considered this an acceptable tradeoff, wanting constant volume out regardless of the bandwidth or center frequency setting of the filter.''

Gift for my husband (from his friends): try these cars!!
Again, this is from a circuit board that powered an LCD display for an HP inkjet printer.
Despite what appears to be a perplexing mishmash of lines, there's an actual method to this madness. These lines conduct electricity, and because they send data to the LCD display, the lines must get the data to the on-chip processor with no interference, thusly unlike traditional insulated wires, circuit board lines cannot cross each other. The circles you see near the bottom of the picture allow the data signal to safely transfer from one side of the circuit board to the other, and get past any electronic obstacles in its way.
The best objects to look for PCB line art are relatively old computer motherboards (such as those from the late 1990s and early 2000s) which have smaller parts and smoother surfaces, thus the pattern is better looking.

Our boiler stopped working recently after getting filled with rain, and needed a new circuit board. The old one has been stuck in the kitchen since then and I am fascinated by how intricate it is.

I uploaded the CAD files describing my circuit board to a web site on the internet and clicked a few buttons. Suddenly in a state far away, robots spun to life, manufacturing my circuit boards. They arrived in the mail here at Caltech four days later. (I could also have asked the robots to solder in all the components, but I elected to do that by hand.)
A sufficiently advanced technology...
