Alistair Brownlee: Olympic champion claims easy London win

By Saj Chowdhury BBC Sport

Olympic champion Alistair Brownlee claimed his second win of the World Triathlon Series with a devastating performance in London.

The Briton, 27, did not enjoy the best transition between the 750m swim and 20km bike, but caught up before blowing away the field on the 5km run.

Brownlee finished in 50 minutes and 39 seconds, 12 seconds ahead of Spain's Fernando Alarza.

His brother Jonny was down the field after suffering bike problems.

In the women's event, 2014 world champion Gwen Jorgensen led a USA 1-2-3 in the second of the day's sprint races - half the distance of a standard triathlon series event.

The 29-year-old crossed the line in 55.45, 20 seconds ahead of Katie Zaferes, who outsprinted Sarah True over the final 200m. It was Jorgensen's 10th successive win in races she has competed in.

Northern Ireland's Aileen Reid took fourth spot, ahead of fellow Briton Vicky Holland, who won in Cape Town last month.

Reid, who competed at London 2012, told BBC Sport: "It was half the distance but twice as hard.

"I had a great run. I didn't think I would run that fast. I want to be in the top 10 in the world."

This photograph was taken at dusk. The day was cloudy.

Despite its critical stand, Drik has always tried to play a constructive role in peacebuilding. In 1993, it brought the prestigious photojournalism exhibition World Press Photo to Bangladesh for the first time. Utilising Drik’s goodwill and its non partisanship towards political parties, it invited the deputy heads of the warring major political parties Dr. Badruddoza Chowdhury of the BNP (later president of Bangladesh) and Mr. Abdus Samad Azad of the Awami League (later, foreign minister), to jointly open the exhibition. A gesture the parties have never repeated.

Projonmo chottor shahbag square are the new name of Shahbag, dhaka ,Bangladesh, People gathered here on 9th Feb 2013 for the demand of Death sentence to Kader Mollah , a war criminal of Bangladesh, who joined in a mass killing with the then Pakistan army during the liberation war of Bangladesh In 1971,Present Government of Bangladesh was promised bound t face those war criminal under justices, and the verdict given on 05 feb against Abdul Kader Mollah was a life time imprisonment , and the Mass people of Bangladesh did not accept this verdict, and an on line activist group and bloggers got together in this shahabag square on 06th feb to protest against this verdict,

War crimes trial attempts As early as December 22, 1971, the Indian Army was conducting investigations of senior Pakistani Army officers connected to the massacre of intellectuals in Dhaka, with the aim of collecting sufficient evidence to have them tried as war criminals. They produced a list of officers who were in positions of command at the time, or were connected to the Inter-Services Screening Committee On December 24, 1971 Home minister of Bangladesh A. H. M. Qamaruzzaman said, "war criminals will not survive from the hands of law. Pakistani military personnel who were involved with killing and raping have to face tribunal." In a joint statement after a meeting between Sheikh Mujib and Indira Gandhi, the Indian government assured that it would give all necessary assistance for bringing war criminals into justice. In February 1972, the government of Bangladesh announced plans to put 100 senior Pakistani officers and officials on trial for crimes of genocide. The list included General A. K. Niazi and four other generals. After the war, the Indian Army held 92,000 Pakistani prisoners of war. and 195 of those were suspected of committing war crimes. All 195 of them were released in April 1974 following the tripartite Simla agreement between Bangladesh, Pakistan and India, and repatriated to Pakistan, in return for Pakistan's recognition of Bangladesh.[78] Furthermore, there was no obligation on Pakistan to carry out investigations of allegations against the suspects, or to provide reparation to Bangladesh. On July 30, 2009, the Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs of Bangladesh stated that no Pakistanis would be tried under the International Crimes (Tribunals) Act 1973 This decision has drawn criticism by international jurists, as it effectively gives immunity to the army commanders of the Pakistan Army who are generally considered to be ultimately responsible for the majority of crimes of 1971. The Bangladesh Collaborators (Special Tribunals) Order 1972 was promulgated to bring to trial those Bangladeshis who collaborated with and aided the Pakistan Armed forces during the Liberation War of 1971. There are conflicting accounts of the number of persons brought to trial under the 1972 Collaborators Order, ranging between 10,000 and 40,000. At the time, the trials were considered problematic by local and external observers, as they appear to have been used for carrying out political vendettas. R. MacLennan, a British MP who was an observer at the trials stated that 'In the dock, the defendants are scarcely more pitiable than the succession of confused prosecution witnesses driven (by the 88-year old defense counsel) to admit that they, too, served the Pakistan government but are now ready to swear blind that their real loyalty was to the government of Bangladesh in exile.'The government of Bangladesh issued a general amnesty on November 30, 1973, applying to all persons except those who were punished or accused of rape, murder, attempt of murder or arson. The Collaborators Order 1972 was revoked in 1975. The International Crimes (Tribunals) Act 1973 was promulgated to prosecute any persons, irrespective of nationality, accused of committing crimes against peace, crimes against humanity, war crimes, ‘‘violations of any humanitarian rules applicable in armed conflicts laid out in the Geneva Conventions of 1949’’ and ‘‘any other crimes under international law’’. Detainees held under the 1972 Collaborators order who were not released by the general amnesty of 1973 were going to be tried under this Act. However, no trials were actually held, and all activities related to the Act ceased after the assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1975. There are no known instances of criminal investigations or trials outside of Bangladesh of alleged perpetrators of war crimes during the 1971 war. Initial steps were taken by the Metropolitan Police to investigate individuals resident in the United Kingdom who were alleged to have committed war crimes in a Channel 4 documentary film aired in 1995. To date, no charges have been brought against these individuals. On December 29, 1991 Ghulam Azam, who was accused of being a collaborator with Pakistan during 1971, became the Chairman or Ameer of the political party Jamaat-e-Islami of Bangladesh, which caused controversy. This prompted the creation of a 'National Committee for Resisting the Killers and Collaborators of 1971', after a proposal of writer and political activist Jahanara Imam. A mock people's court was formed which on March 26, 1992, found Ghulam Azam guilty in a mock trial and sentenced him to death. A case was filed in the Federal Court of Australia on September 20, 2006 for alleged crimes of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity during 1971 by the Pakistani Armed Forces and its collaborators. Raymond Solaiman & Associates acting for the plaintiff Mr. Solaiman, have released a press statement which among other things says: “

We are glad to announce that a case has been filed in the Federal Magistrate's Court of Australia today under the Genocide Conventions Act 1949 and War Crimes Act. This is the first time in history that someone is aA the Pakistani Armed Forces and its collaborators. The Proceeding number is SYG 2672 of 2006. On October 25, 2006, a direction hearing will take place in the Federal Magistrates Court of Australia, Sydney registry before Federal Magistrate His Honor Nicholls.” On May 21, 2007, at the request of the applicant "Leave is granted to the applicant to discontinue his application filed on September 20, 2006." (FILE NO: (P)SYG2672/2006) In March 2010, the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) was formed in Bangladesh to hold trials of Bangladeshi citizens accused of involvement in crimes against humanity, including genocide, rape, murder and arson during the 1971 Liberation war. The ICT, despite its name, is of local nature and has had no involvement from the United Nations. It has been criticized by the Human Rights Watch and prominent Western jurists for bias and deficient legal provisions. Charge such as planning to commit crime, murder and torture have been framed against eight members, including former leader Ghulam Azam, of Jamaat-e-Islami party. Three of these have been indicted. The members have termed the charges as political.

Fanush, paper made hot air balloon, was once the integral part of North Calcutta (Kolkata) “Babu” Culture. Today the art of Fanush making is a dying art as the new generation has shifted its attention into other sources of entertainment.

The Fanush operates in the same principle of a hot air balloon. The air inside the Fanush is heated by a cloth rag ball (locally called Nuti) soaked in spirit. The Nuti is attached to the base of the Fanush.

The Language Movement had a major cultural impact on Bengali society. It has inspired the development and celebration of the Bengali language, literature and culture. 21 February, celebrated as Language Movement Day or Shohid Dibosh (Martyrs' Day), is a major national holiday in Bangladesh. A month-long event called the Ekushey Book Fair is held every year to commemorate the movement. Ekushey Padak, one of the highest civilian awards in Bangladesh, is awarded annually in memory of the sacrifices of the movement.[49] Songs such as Abdul Gaffar Choudhury's Amar Bhaier Rokte Rangano, set to music by Shaheed Altaf Mahmud, as well as plays, works of art and poetry played a considerable role in rousing the people's emotions during the movement.[50] Since the events of February 1952, poems, songs, novels, plays, films, cartoons and paintings were created to capture the movement from varied point of views. Notable artistic depictions include the poems Bornomala, Amar Dukhini Bornomala and February 1969 by Shamsur Rahman, the film Jibon Theke Neya by Zahir Raihan, the stage play Kobor by Munier Chowdhury and the novels Ekushey February by Raihan and Artonaad by Shawkat Osman.[51] Bangladesh officially sent a proposal to UNESCO to declare 21 February as "International Mother Language Day." The proposal was supported unanimously at the 30th General Conference of UNESCO held on 17 November 1999.[52]

Two years after the first monument was destroyed by the police, a new Shaheed Minar (Monument of Martyrs) was constructed in 1954 to commemorate the protesters who lost their lives. Work on a larger monument designed by the architect Hamidur Rahman began in 1957 with the support of the United Front ministry. Hamidur Rahman’s model consisted of a large complex in the yard of the Dhaka Medical College Hostel. The design included a half-circular column symbolizing a mother with her martyred sons standing at the dais in the center of the monument. Although the imposition of martial law in 1958 interrupted the work, the monument was completed and inaugurated on 21 February 1963 by Abul Barkat's mother, Hasina Begum. Pakistani forces demolished the monument during the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971, but the Bangladeshi government reconstructed it in 1973.[53]

Outside East Pakistan, movement for equal status of Bengali also took place in the Indian state of Assam. On May 19, 1961, 11 Bengalis were killed in Police firing in Silchar Railway Station, Assam, while demanding state recognition of Bengali language. Subsequently, Bengali was given semi-official status in the three Bengali-majority districts of Assam.[54]

If you wish you may Visit other flower for this kind from this Album polash

Description :

[►].

Palash is also the State Flower of Jharkhand.

It is said that the tree is a form of Agni, God of Fire. It was a punishment given to Him by Goddess Parvati for disturbing Her and Lord Shiva's privacy.[citation needed] In Telangana, these flowers are specially used in the worship of Lord Shiva on occasion of Shivratri. In Telugu, this tree is called Modugu chettu.

In Kerala, this is called 'plasu' and 'chamata'. Chamata is the vernacular version of Sanskrit word 'Samidha', small piece of wood that is used for 'agnihotra' or fire ritual. In most of the old namboodiri (Kerala Brahmin) houses, one can find this tree because this is widely used for their fire ritual.

Kaththi (English: Knife) is an upcoming 2014 Tamil action thriller film written and directed by AR Murugadoss.[2] The film stars Vijay in a dual role [3] alongside Samantha Ruth Prabhu,[4] with Neil Nitin Mukesh, who made his debut in Tamil cinema through this film,[5][6] and Tota Roy Chowdhury portraying the antagonist roles.[7] Anirudh Ravichander composed the soundtrack album and background score for the film,[8] cinematography was done by George C. Williams,[9] and the film was edited by A. Sreekar Prasad. Eros International purchased the theatrical and audio rights for the film. Lyca Productions and Ayngaran International bankrolled the venture. The film was voted the most anticipated Tamil film of 2014 in a poll conducted by Behindwoods.[10]

Principal photography commenced on 3 February 2014. Shooting took place in Kolkata, Chennai, Kadapa. The film is scheduled to release on Diwali.[11][12][13]

Production

Development

After the success of Thuppakki (2012), it was reported that Murugadoss and Vijay would work together again.[14][15] Murugadoss confirmed the same on his Twitter page.[16] According to sources, the script was almost ready and that the film would not be a sequel to Thuppakki.[14] Ayngaran International and Lyca Productions were confirmed to be the producers and distributors of the film.[17] Murugadoss replaced his usual music director Harris Jayaraj with Anirudh Ravichander and signed George C. Williams as the cinematographer, who had filmed Raja Rani (2013) which was produced by Murugadoss himself.[9] Art director Lalgudi N. Ilayaraja, who had won the National Award for Best Art Direction in Vishwaroopam (2013), was selected to create the sets for the film.[18] The film was earlier rumored to be titled as Dheeran.[19] In March 2014, Murugadoss confirmed that the film would be titled Kaththi,[20] and that the film would have a Diwali release.[2]

Casting

Samantha Ruth Prabhu was confirmed to pair opposite Vijay.[21] Bengali actor Tota Roy Chowdhury was signed for an antagonistic role, an international gangster named Vivek Banerjee.[7] In March 2014, Murugadoss stated that Bollywood actor Neil Nitin Mukesh would be part of his project, making his Tamil film debut. He also unveiled that Vijay would be seen in a double role.[5] Actor Sathish was chosen to play a supporting role in the film.[22] Actors Prabhu Ganesan, Sayaji Shinde and Subbu Panchu were selected to play pivotal roles in the film.[2]

In an interview to the IANS, Neil Nitin Mukesh said that his look in Johnny Gaddaar (2007) inspired him to do Kaththi and that his role was not of the stereotypical over-the-top kind, but someone who is bad by nature. He had to learn Tamil for his role,[23] as he did not want to speak his dialogues without knowing and understanding their meaning.[24] He had also lost weight for the film.[25] He further revealed that his character would be a foreign-returned one and would be very stylish along the lines of Brad Pitt and David Beckham.[26]

Filming

The film was launched in Kolkata on 3 February 2014 by its producers Ayngaran International with a pooja ceremony in front of the Kalighat Kali Temple, after which principal photography began.[27][28] The first schedule of filming was done on Kolkata and Hyderabad.[29][30] In between, Murugadoss, took a break to promote his then upcoming Bollywood film, Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty (2014), the Hindi remake of Thuppakki (2012).[31] The film was then shot in Pushpa gardens in Chennai, where a huge set which costed around 1.25 crore (US$210,000) was erected and most of the indoor scenes were completed in this set.[32] Shooting continued for a 40 day long schedule in and around the city.[33] By July 2014, 60% of the shooting had been completed and the team shot a few scenes in Kadapa.[34] The final leg of the film began on 1 August 2014 at Chennai.[35] One of the song sequences was shot in Scotland.[36][37] In late August 2014, the makers confirmed that only 15 days of filming, including patch-work and a few fight sequences,[38] remained and that filming would be wrapped up by September 2014.[36] Filming moved back to Hyderabad where the rest of the fight sequences were canned.[39] On 1 September 2014, both Neil Nitin Mukesh[40] and Murugadoss confirmed on their social networking pages that the second half of the film had been nearly completed,[41] with some scenes shot at the Chennai Central railway station.[42] The lead pair and crew flew to London to can a song sequence in early September 2014.[43]

Post-production

On 4 September 2014, Neil Nitin Mukesh said that he had dubbed in Tamil himself for his role and that he completed his portions for the first half of the film.[44]

Music

Main article: Kaththi (soundtrack)

The soundtrack album and background score of the film were composed by Anirudh Ravichander. The soundtrack album consists of seven tracks.[8] Initial reports that the album release would be held in September 2014 at the Wembley Arena in London[45] and that the lead pair would perform at the audio launch along with Anirudh proved to be untrue.[46] The grand audio launch of the movie took place on 18 September 2014, at the Leela Palace Hotel in Chennai.[47]

Release

The film is scheduled to release on Diwali.[11]

Marketing

The first look motion poster teaser of Kaththi was released on 22 June 2014 on Vijay's birthday.[48] It crossed 2 million views on YouTube.[49] The motion poster teaser revealed that Vijay might play the role of a youth activist named Kathiresan and that he heads a youth brigade.[50][51] 2 promotional posters were released on 22 August 2014.[52][53] One of the posters showed a romantic still featuring the lead pair and the other had Vijay sporting the typical angry young man look.[54] The posters fetched positive feedback from fans[55] and trended on social networking sites following their release.[54] As a teaser to the song "Selfie Pulla", Anirudh started a selfie contest online, where fans were asked to post a selfie with the film's poster in the background.[43] The official teaser was unveiled at the audio launch of the film.[56] A video of the making of a song sequence shot at the Chennai International Airport was released on YouTube on 15 September 2014.[57] Behindwoods stated in its teaser review, "Sheer Mass is the word!"[58] Nivedita Mishra of the Hindustan Times wrote, "It’s powerful and gripping, synthetic yet elemental: without doubt, one of the best for a crime thriller."[59] Indiaglitz, in its teaser review, asserted, "The 360 degree camera spin with the bombastic BGM of Anirudh; is sure to give goosebumps to the fans of Vijay."[60] The teaser crossed 1 million views 2 days after its release.[61]

Description :

Martyred Intellectuals Memorial (Bengali: বুদ্ধিজীবি স্মৃতি সৌধ) is a memorial built for the memory of the martyred intellectuals of Bangladesh Liberation War. The memorial, located at Rayerbazar, Mohammadpur Thana in Dhaka[1], was designed by architect Mostafa Ali Kuddus. During the entire duration of Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971, a large number of teachers, doctors, engineers, poets and writers were systematically massacred by Pakistan Army and their local collaborators, most notably the alleged Islamist militia groups Al-Badr and [Al-Shams (Bangladesh)|[Al-Shams]]. In the night of 14 December 1971, over 200 of East Pakistan's intellectuals including professors, journalists, doctors, artists, engineers, and writers were rounded up in Dhaka. They were taken blindfolded to torture cells in Mirpur, Mohammadpur, Nakhalpara, Rajarbagh and other locations in different sections of the city. Later they were executed en masse, most notably at Rayerbazar and Mirpur. In memory of the martyred intellectuals, December 14 is mourned in Bangladesh as Shaheed Buddhijibi Dibosh ("Day of the Martyred Intellectuals").

Description :

Qurbani is a sacrifice that is offered at the time of Eid al-Adha to show gratitude towards Allah (swt) and to provide for the poor and needy.

The Prophet Muhammad (saws) was once asked by his Companions: "O Prophet of Allah! What is this qurbani?" He replied, "It is the Sunnah of your father Ibrahim (as)." (Hadith - Ibn Majah)

Allah (swt) says in the Qur'an: "It is neither their flesh nor their blood that reaches Allah; it is your piety that reaches Him." (Qur'an 22:37)

Qurbani has been performed from the time of Ibrahim (as) and commemorates also Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son, who was replaced by an animal at the time of sacrifice.
